Paris is Burning is a documentary, created by  Jennie Livingston in 1990. The documentary focuses on the ballroom and drag scene in the late 80s, showing the lgbtq lifestyle at the time and the problems these people faced, through the narration of several different important people for ballroom culture. I chose to post this because i was inspired by the idea of a social documentary, formed by narrations.

I made this track with the idea of describing an event or an image and i was fashinated by how a song can have the same structure of a play. I could also imagine combining this track with  movement or a performance

Andrew Thomas Huang is a Chinese American filmmaker and digital artist . He is an experimental filmmaker with a background in puppetry, animation, live action performance and visual effects, Huang's work bridges the gap between video art and film, expanding beyond into installation and alternative modes of storytelling. I was specificly interested by his use of body movement, he combines it with digital art or an installation and it looks like live puppetry. Except from that I was fascinated by his combination of movement and texture wich makes his work seem alive.

Remedios Varo is a Mexican artist born in 1908 and died in 1963. She is a surrealist very significant for the surrealist movement in Mexico. She joined the avant-garde artists’ group Logicophobista were she met another very famous woman surrealist Leonora Carrington. Varo’s first pursuits in Mexico City were in commercial art, interior and costume design, and restoration of pre-Columbian pottery. In large part, her paintings are populated with strange humans engaged in mystical and alchemical activity in dreamlike atmospheres. I chose this artist because she inspires me to use symbolism in different ways while also some of her works give me ideas on how I could stage a symbolism

Bea Camacho is a Philippine artist that presents many issues like memory, distance from home, the security of feeling comfortable etc with everyday materials and in simple ways. She is most well known for her “Enclose” series, where she would sit through hours-long live performances of her crocheting herself into a cocoon, with one even lasting up to 11 hours. Camacho’s work is simple, sparse, intense. Conceptual in nature, she often uses ordinary objects and is able to magnify aspects of them, injecting meaning and sentimentality in something that we otherwise might not have thought about at all. In “Memento Obliviscere,” Camacho explores the extent and limits of memory. That, as humans, the things we remember inevitably deteriorate. It’s easy to forget things as time goes on and it’s even easier to misremember events, facts, and details.
