Can I ask you to talk some about Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach? I've suddenly became very interested in Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach In just general (It's very hard to read about anyone's Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach representative)

saxe-weimar-eisenach was a duchy created in 1809 via a merger of the Ernestine duchies (which is its own thing) of Saxe-Weimar and Saxe-Eisenanch. She first existed from 1809-1903, then called the grand duchy of Saxony from 1903-1918 but no one really used it. During the fledgling years of the Weimar Republic, she became the free state of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (I do wonder how the whole ‘free state of ____’ started in Germany post WWI) from 1918-1920 until merging with the free state of Thuringia. she is the niece of the famous Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Though admittedly the duchy is more famous for their royal house.

I literally just had her be G.E’s wife because the first German Kaiser’s wife was from the duchy, sorta bonus points because weimar’s in the name and their son was the Weimar Republic (before he went insane that is..)

Her and G.E were married via political arrangement by Hanover's suggestion because G.E had a crush on her and the only thing stopping those two from getting married was Prussia's unadulterated , unfiltered, raging, and extremely random HATRED for her; which was caused because of her parents having such an on and off relationship that itself caused an incident where a younger Prussia yelled "CAN EITHER ONE OF YOU TAKE AN OATH OF CELIBACY OR JUST GET MARRIED ALREADY?!" in the middle of a ball in 1808. coincidentally Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach was born the next year but she was left an orphan. She was welcomed into Prussia's court and raised there. She had a extremely slow aging process for countryhumans, and the Duchy of Saxe-Lauenburg used to joke that she was growing "as slow as a snail". she looked to be about 14 when G.E ii (the previous one (a asexually reproduced child of Prussia’s) existed from February of 1848 to March 31st of 1849) was born. Prussia also, quote “didn’t want to act like the Habsburgs”, due to both Hanover and Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach being descendants of Saxony, so he initially refused.

the two finally married in 1871 and Weimar was born in 1898. Fortunately, she didn’t live to see what her son would become, but Prussia and Hanover did.

Hanover is now a major city! she was first the electorate of Hanover from 1692 to 1814, then a kingdom from 1814 to 1866. She got annexed by Prussia during the Austro-Prussian War and became the Province of Hanover which existed until 1946. Hanover had a short run as a state (the state of Hanover) for 92 days in the British zone of allied controlled Germany post WWII before being integrated into Lower Saxony (who still uses Hanover’s emblems)

Countries in my au can easily go from a city, to a city-state, to an empire, to a province etc based off of history and Hanover started as an electorate like stated before.

Dissecting/sorta critiquing the descendants & followers of the deities outfits because I’m crazy and a big fan of details and history.

also, Elle, you don’t have to listen to this.

Reina: 

Reina is the goddess of Necromancy, death, harvest, and the stars (unnecessary side fact: I usually avoid broad titles like ‘deity of the stars/moon/sun’ because in my own oc lore the suns and planets are deities themselves and it questions their role/powers would be (moon is less broad because that means they have semi-control over the tides)). There seems to be two gods of death in the Organa pantheon so the people must really like death and macabre. I honestly like the desison to make Reina the goddess of necromancy and death as well because ancient people themselves had a habit of just slamming random titles onto random gods if they didn’t have a role.. ANYWAY WE AREN’T DOING THEOLOGY AND MYTHOLOGY RIGHT NOW WE’RE DOING FASHION MIXED WITH THAT A BIT!!

this will rely heavily on descriptions and visuals and will be all over the place writing-wise. This is also kind of a critique so be warned.  

The ‘my inspo’ parts are pictures that I think personify the descendants and gods IMO

Reina is most famously the goddess of the sun and the harvest, normal stuff. Those roles are usually represented with colors of gold and white and possibly sheerer fabrics so that the wind and sand can pass through. Elle has also mentioned that Reina’s nationality is Egyptian and the most known time period of Egyptian history is the ancient and biblical periods. I also think possibly inspo in Assyrian and Mesopotamia would be interesting in Reina’s clothing. The god of the sun in Egyptian mythology, ra, wears a sun disk on his head. I personally think the deities have a lack of headwear. 

Onto symbols! Symbols in clothing are a good way to say something about the character and environment and plot points.

Take alicent hightowers outfit with the necklace of the emblem of the seven, representing the changes the Hightower family has made in  switching the kingdoms religion from the old targeryian heraldry to the seven. A late edit but I had to include this, green is also a notorious Hightower color and becomes Alicent’s main color in season two. I frankly love HOTD’s costume design (it kinda fits perfectly in my own ocs first 3 generations in the nexus moon (and I’m a fan of political drama’s while yelling at the tv ‘STATE INR WOULDVE FIXED THIS RIGHT UP’) however I do think it has the issue that the Star Wars prequels had of the prequel getting a bigger budget/more tech that the original story so it feels slightly out of place. 

What are the symbols for Reina? Stars ✨ and the sun and that seems to be it. I can’t even say the twinkle star is Reina’s symbol because it’s a common symbol throughout a lot of designs. What makes the descendants and followers of Reina look unique? In their original redesign outfits bring the ideas of sandstorms, sand, DUNE, and possibly fading sun as the night falls or vice versa (possibly the sun rising instead in the way of Reina not liking the dark so she tries to get above it) 

late edit: while writing the Flores section, I realized how kinda cool it would be if the descendants of Reina had their own types of funeral arrangements/ precessions because Reina’s the goddess of death II and necromancy. I had this whole idea of the descendants funerals and them being called black holes or dead stars or they’re called supernovas because that’s when starts crash into each other or when as star dies.

Here’s my inspo:

Julius & Maida: 

Julius and maida (which I’ve shorted to J&M)’s vibes/ words are macabre, magic, Salem (which the word Salem itself comes from the Bible as a precursor of JeruSALEM and has a prophet king), knights, hunting parties, dancing on death, ballrooms filled with blood, bland cursed hands (if you want to make it creepy, black cursed hands with eyes growing out of them controlled by an unknown being that isn’t the persons body). 

A random idea I had for Julius and Maida’s descendants outfits is based off of the old designs of Harmonia when she had horns. Basically in art, Julius and Harmonia would be drawn to have horns so their descendants would wear headdresses and headpieces and crowns with horns in order to copy that like a trend or symbol almost. You could even try out different horn designs (up, down, thicker or thinner, yada yada) for different descendants based off of their personalities (somehow???)

Also because I think the J&M descendants just dressing up as them is the most limiting and boring/bland thing ever, you can’t really tell someone’s personality if they’re just dressed up as their ancestors. How are you going to not confuse the mortals if the non-descendant mortals can’t see you in the first place?! (The only thing forgiving that fact is the drawing w/ the council outfits was posted in September of 2023 when Elle was still building up the new world) 

would the outfits change after Harmonia? If they didn’t I think some of the descendants would feel quite bitter that Harmonia gets to not wear the uniform but they still have to.

Here’s my inspo:

Mar & Willows (it got autocorrected to Willis before I fixed it): 

Mar & Willows seems to be the most design cohesive of all of the families. My only complaint is that Willows doesn’t have a unique style of design and he doesn’t really have an impact on his descendants design-wise. He seems like Mar’s trophy husband. Actually. Looking back at Willows redesign, Willows wings and bird features could be a reference to the Greek mythology fact that the Greek sirens ARE NOT HALF FISH, if so, you are very clever Elle. 

But the design inspiration is clear! Mermaids, sirens and sailors, old sea shanties told through drunken sailors, fishermen, misty seas and seashells. 

Also I think Laena Velaryon in HOTD looks kinda like Serene. The house of Velaryon itself has a lot to do with the sea (driftmark, their burial process of dumbing the tombs into the sea, etc)

Here’s my inspo:

Flores: 

Honestly I don’t really have any comments, Marshland, butterflies, moths, nymphs, butterfly masks and masquerade balls (though butterfly masks & masquerade balls sounds like a DeadMoth song) seem to be the vibes and Jing herself seems to be the one giving the descendants symbolism with her body patterns, however that is more of a genetic thing than anything. Stars are also a symbol in this and it wouldn’t be annoying/repetitive to me if it wasn’t a reference to the star of Flores which is just Flores elder creation Fleur (which if Fleur ever gets out she is going to have some Lapis Lazuli like trauma ). I personally think without that fact of the Flores star, the star sybolism would be sort of weird as who would get the star symbolism? Reina or Flores? I would say Reina because she is the goddess of the stars IF you remove the Flores star aspect from the Flores line. Besides the star issue, the Flores line is also cohesive.

Strange how the cool tones (Flores, Willows, and Mar) are the most cohesive vibe-wise.

My inspo: 

I have left Heath out as it is the one we know the least about but they seem to have a tradition of being garment makers and fashion illustrators. also another nitpick is that once Organa enters the 19th century, they seem to loose most of their symbolism/culture all together. I want to see an Organa version of a regency outfit and not just a regency outfit all together. Don’t just put them in regency or Victorian outfits, put them in regency or Victorian outfits that would fit Organa’s culture, symbols based off the gods, than just a character in a 19th century outfit.

America says loudly and bluntly to INR “Do you ever want to cannibalize anyone here?” In the middle of a UN meeting. People are OBVIOUSLY uncomfortable but they dismiss it because America expresses his anger through his words. And also some dismiss it as ‘oh America’s just being crazy again’ (which is actually state’s excuse funnily enough)

The context is that America actually cannibalized/ate a corpse (which is still cannibalism) during the 1610 winter called ‘the starving time’ when he was Jamestown.

also I’m still trying to figure out my king David design, he looks more Babylonian in this drawing but the intention was sort of how Bathsheba viewed David. I did my best with this, it was based off of Sacredhyacinth’s drawing of BM Lori and David (different David) with Frankenstein text in the background.

Marsh:

im playing around with Marsh’s concept again but still keeping his backstory. I’m thinking of giving him a beard as his time in prison would’ve made his hair grow (obviously) but the hair on his head isn’t the only parts of hair on his body that would’ve grown.

I’m thinking of arching the branches growing out of and around his head to look more symbolic or crown-like idk. For some reason I feel like he would use hallucinogens or be able to cause hallucinations. maybe it’s because I was drawing this while watching an outlast trials playthrough and have been sifting through old CIA MKULTRA files on the cia database (it got worse, apparently we were interested in biological warfare since 1941 (predating the CIA & MKNAOMI) when the f-ing WAR DEPARTMENT was still around (actually the War department secretary at the time looked into biological warfare stuff HIMSELF in 1942. The US War Department was the predecessor of DoD & the department also advised Wilson not to intervene in the Russian civil war just because of trade but we still did) Luckily it stopped during Nixon but there are allegations by China & Cuba), but if he were an enemy in a game I think he would make a player hallucinate. And I mean trippy-seeing stuff that isn’t real-fantasy-weird outlast- Easterman crashing out-skinnerman-type of hallucinating. Probably made a few descendants or patrons go through something similar to psychosis.

I don’t think him and Leima would get along AT ALL. Though their roles as ‘helpers’ (if you could even call marsh that) are kind of similar but they both go down very separate paths. He would probably insult Leima to her face or demean her or even claim she’s infertile (something he doesn’t know if it’s true nor cares) “oh you wanna have the little star prince’s babies??! You want little bundles of disaster flying around the temple?? Too bad youre infertile, servant!!” Marsh is insane, he genuinely is. He would probably trick someone into freeing him by spinning a sob story and then do whatever until someone in the temple found him and then remark “well maybe your prized descendants shouldn’t be so gullible..” before being put back in his cell

I think he would have a lot of charisma (just got Easterman ‘thought leaders’ flashbacks oh boy). I don’t think he acts like he’s high, he’s very antagonistic and angry right now since Kim’s gone but when Kim was around he was kinda the same but with a cultist or even cult leader mentality (ish) and devotion to her if you get my drift. He DEFINITELY was only be sent to the prisons and not killed because someone spared him. Instead of ‘oh god’ or ‘oh Cora’ he definitely says ‘oh Orion’

Sergeant Edmund Wallis Jr. :

for some reason I always like to put in his full name for stuff, like he’s reporting for duty or something. I think he would view Leima as more evidence that David is a watcher (he would probably accuse David of being polyamorous or cheating on whatever partner he has) . ALSO I FOUND SOME EARLY SKETCHES OF HIM! (the question he asks Dahlia is actually mentioned in one of his diary entries though Dahlia wasn’t alive in the late 1860s and is instead told to a random female descendant he meets in a bar)

Edmund has a very special man in his past, and that’s Norman! Norman died in the Crimean War and he’s written about in Edmund’s diary but his role in Edmund’s life is up for the reader to decide based off of the text available (and if I’m being honest, I couldn’t decide myself) (I’m still working on how to draw him)

I think Edmund’s very too the point with stuff, he doesn’t skirt around a topic, if he thinks something is horrible he won’t sugarcoat it and he’ll speak his mind. He’s blunt. It partially stems from his Methodist upbringing and reading the Bible as I can imagine him saying: “god said not to lie so I’m either not speaking at all or I’m speaking the truth.” I’ve discovered that Arthur Kinnaird from The English Game is what Edmund would look like 100% irl.

I have two designs for the watchers from the book of Enoch right now, those being Samyaza and Azazel. I haven’t sketched Azazel’s yet but it’s been sitting in my mind for months now. I already posted Samyaza’s. I think I’m going to make the different color scheme actually a part of their designs and not something wacky to emphasize that they aren’t human. In part of Edmund’s google doc (which I don’t know why I keep mentioning it when ITS NOT DONE) he tells the story of Azazel as a ghost story. If he were to mentor Loretta if Mira were not there for the day (kinda like a substitute teacher) he would probably accidentally jumpscare her by just being behind her randomly and then saying that training starts now. Or pulling her out of bed at 5 am and saying to wake up and then when she complains he spurs something about waking up at 5 am for drills and military training. He would probably mentor like a army drill sergeant (not on par with the marine drill sergeant but still scary)

I realized I turned both of my ocs into Organa horror stories. A guy that gets cursed by a woman he’s obsessively devoted to to eventually become a tree and a man who haunts Organa after being murdered and the killer is still unknown (it caused quite a political fiasco)

And here’s a 1860s Mira design, I loved doing the hair but I will admit that 1860s party gowns are some of the most complicated EVER to draw.

I also have a lot of Duchy of Normandy x Kingdom of France sketches from my French notebook (because my logic was like ‘well if I’m going to doodle countryhumans in class they might as well be French!’) and that ship mostly has to do with my own au. I also have too many drawings so I will be doing a pt.2 for the countryhumans sketches! (These are stuff I haven’t posted yet so I’m posting it now and might post some of it after this(???))

America (+ State, War, & Treasury. As well as OSS & INR (state INR used to be his father, OSS, research and analysis branch and was directly transferred to the state department and is therefore the older brother of CIA.)

Judah & Canaan/Levant: Canaan in my au is the personification of the Canaan region + Levant valley AND of the Canaanite peoples (his children are the different Canaanite peoples) Judah’s lineage is super complicated and slightly funny because his parents are Jerusalem (formerly Salem (?)) and Sumer (taking inspiration from Abraham being from Sumer) basically Sumer busted Egypt one day and saw Jerusalem and was like ‘Who’s that hottie?’ and then a stupid rom-com insude. ALSO countries in my au are hermaphroditic!! I just wanted to make that clear for future drawings! Sumer was actually the one ending up carrying Judah in his body so that’s funny.

I’m going to need to do a pt.2 of the countryhuman sketches dang it.

Marsh himself has gone on a wild ride in just a day ( the same day I made the ask lol). His ORIGINAL original concept was just A NICKNAME that Kim could’ve possibly called Layla’s parent that was Kim’s offspring and had dark marsh green hair (I think Kim would do something like that) because unless there’s another parent for that child, Kim probably created that child the same way Flores created her dad. Then I listened to one song and it went to shit. The song is sweet Rosalie by American murder song, you should probably listen to the song for some context but let’s moving on. Add a weird deity+ obsessed worshipper relationship into it plus my strange and general “let’s make it darker” attitude and that’s how Marsh was made.

I think he shares a lot of design elements with Oliver and Mayflower Melanie and his pre-curse form is incredibly poorly drawn + his hair and facial hair wasn’t supposed to be THAT long in his pre-curse form.

afterthoughts:

To me, Marsh has no unique depth, he may be fun, sure. But he is what he is on paper. He isn’t complicated, he isn’t interesting to me. I like Edmund more. The most depth you can go into detail for is that he, just like David, is still waiting for Kim but Marsh is locked up in the temple prisons and over time has made a mural or weird religious scene out of his blood on the stone walls of his prison. I really want to draw that. I’ve already done a draft on the right drawing page.

ALSO Liberia is always close to America whenever America’s in the room. America is liberia’s father so it’s fitting for them to be close, however, Liberia is mostly seen by other nations (particularly his grandfather Britain) as also being in close proximity to America for protection but also out of fear as America is, to be blunt, NOT a good parent.

He is incredibly neglectful of Liberia and He wasn’t even there at the funeral when Liberia’s little siblings all died (especially Liberia’s little sister Maryland-in-Africa) AND THAT WAS THE 1850s!! He had time! IT WASNT THE CIVIL WAR YET! I could go onto an ENTIRE RANT on how bad a parent America is but I don’t want to right now.

A thing I decided to do of the countries I fixate over the most’s music preferences (so sadly I couldn’t put OSS in here)

(east Germany OBVIOUSLY would have never heard of or have listened to Tate McRae’s music however it was definitely something that inspired her character (which is kind of a bit weird because she is one of the darker characters along with Liberia and America))

America likes American murder song because.. eh just go listen to the song ‘Indiana man’. Russia likes Queen or the Beatles because WHYNOT?! Liberia has Olivia Rodrigo because unfortunately his Spotify playlist has a lot of Olivia Rodrigo songs.
