A Midwestern girl originally relocated 2,000 miles with the man of her dreams; now forever on the run. I just need a place to process it all...

4,000 ft. skies; winter moon
The desert becomes quiet and still in the winter. Purple mountains revealed each evening. Things feel calm.

Marfa is the definition of a high/low weekend.
It's a perfect fit if you like old pickup trucks and ranching families alongside your visual art, craft cocktails and hip restaurants.
Sometimes the contrast is ironic. Sometimes it's not.
We love it because, frankly, once in a while you just need to immerse yourself in the delightful oddities of the art community.

Fort Stanton's community of tuberculosis patients (including physicians assigned to this location) included men, women, and children -- with officer housing for families, single nurses, cleaning/laundry attendants, and community spaces for cards and other recreational activities. The grounds were eerily lovely and peaceful, with a hangover of sadness, isolation, and misfortune.

Last weekend, cruising some of New Mexico's mountains around Ruidoso and beyond.... in search of new scenery and lower temperatures. We came across Fort Stanton: a once military fort (built to support westward expansion) turned hospital/community for those living with tuberculosis. The high desert skies of New Mexico are open and beautiful, even if the summer sun is hot. Walking around the grounds, touring the buildings, and learning about this odd and out-of-the-way place that was once bustling with several hundred people was unexpected. And to make the discovery even more strange; just up the road is a gated community of summer-second-homes with a private airport and performing arts center for wealthy Texans to escape the heat of their low-elevation home state.

Desert farming and sunsets...
Hot summer temps call for a mountain escape, where you can find butterflies, free-roaming horses, fire lookouts, and refreshing mountain air that's 58 degrees.

...Thinking back to our day trip in the hills of Salamanca. Remembering back to those high skies and beautiful stone architecture for the university and surrounding town.

The possession of knowledge does not kill the sense of wonder and mystery. There is always more mystery. - Anaïs Nin
After a prolonged hiatus, I am excited to finally revisit this visual journal/personal record of Life.
Reminiscing on our month in Madrid earlier this year. Missing the beauty and quiet sophistication of the capital. Looking over the phone photos makes me regret not taking my proper camera - though I was trying to de-stress and enjoy the moments without documenting them, I am reminded of yet another Anaïs Nin quote: We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.
Just a friendly reminder to myself to take the camera, journal my thoughts as I'm experiencing them. It inevitably brings my much joy to reflect back in this way.

The weather has been atrocious this week - but today (our last day in Iceland) the rain and wind finally stopped for a few hours this afternoon.
I took the opportunity to stroll around the city streets with just my phone and capture some little details from life in the sunshine. …Boats, buildings, plants in windowsills, cats curled up for pets in a flower bowl, and coastal walking paths. 🙂🇮🇸

Part of last weekend’s adventures along the south coast! These are only phone snaps, so more to come from the camera. There were many stops on this trip, and even an impromptu puffin sighting.
