IN 2011 I ran the pilot version of this social justice art exhibit Maasai and I.

Withy college finished, I WILL return to this and make it a bi-annual project. That is a promise! Love & Light to the artist, volunteers (friends), performers, Puma of Black Ink, and speakers, that donated their time, craft, and effort to this.

BACK TO AFRICA!!!

"MAASAI & I FUND-RASING" 

NOW-MAY 2012

Raising money to go to Kenya and visit the Maasai Tribe!

WHAT? 

Maasai & I is an annual art exhibit and Charity Project that started last year

USING ART TO RAISE AWARENESS of the dying indigenous lifestyle of some Afrikan Tribes. 

50% of the money from Art sales will go to the Maasai tribe. 

LAST YEAR...

 "The art was like a mirror of self in different clothing; Moments that were truly "Black" or in their eye's truly, "Afrikan." 

After speaking with KAKITO, AN ACTUAL MAASAI VILLAGER whom was in America visiting family (( my distant family )) we decided building a SCHOOL was best and VISITING THE TRIBE WAS MANDATORY!

This trip will serve as:

Bond Buildingto my Afrikan Brothers & Si-Stars.

The beginning Steps tobuilding an "in-house" education systemthat teaches modern technology & basic curriculum ALONG SIDE  local Afrikan traditions, history, & indigenous ways, not in replace of it. 

Draw the Maasai pple & Afrikan land in person for the following years exhibit. 

Network with Afrikan artist, businesses, and cultures to further develop international responsibility for the Afrikan Diaspora (including Latinos, Taino)

 FUTURE GOALS: Establish an exchange program for our kids in the Afrika and America 

                                Establish (or help grow) an International Community of Afrikans 

My Goal is to Raise : $5, 000.

BUDGET:

 AirPlane: $1,700-$2,000

Accommodations: $400 estimated

Painting Supplies, Food, Daily Travel, Miscellaneous: $2,000 estimated

Visa/Travel Documents: $150

Anti-Virus ShotS: $ 450+ estimated

Whatever money doesn't get used, will go right back into the project.

HELP ME SET UP EDUCATION FOR THE MAASAI!

As you know,

The plan for Maasai & I is a 3 step process:

EDUCATE: Build an education system BY the Maasai, FOR the Maasai so they may educate themselves about the world around them and incorporate their centuries of tradition.

EDUCATION THROUGH EXCHANGE: After step one, we further the education process by developing an exchange program for the kids of the Maasai, and Urban American Youth to learn about each other and break out the box

PAN AFRICAN CONNECTION: And finally!! People of African Origin will have a community that extends across seas, that shares knowledge, history, trade, food, support, and. 

BUT 1ST!!!!!! I HAVE TO GET TO KENYA TO SET UP STEP ONE! My Maasai friend KAKITO that lives there has pressed the importance of building a relationship with the tribe. I have to study their lives, and listen to their needs, and be aware of their resources to know what exactly is needed to proceed.

THE COST:

PLANE TICKET: $1,500

ACCOMMODATIONS: FREE!!! KAKITO IS LETTING ME STAY WITH HER.

MISCELLANEOUS: $500 max; Food, Daily Travel, Emergency $ (Momma aint rasie no fool!)

WHEN? JANUARY 2012 I plan to stay for one month. Its a few days to get there and back from NY. Most likely my plane will stop in other countries, so I need to make sure I have enough for the basics. I'm also  being told that i might have to purchase a US Passport (I hold a world passport) due to the political times we live in. Any way you can assist, Please Do!
