THANK YOU to life!
This is my Eulogy.
First. I would like to thank Life and God for giving me the opportunity to live and experience a taste of this world.
TO MY FAMILY. Thank you for raising me well. I am not me without any single of you. I may not express as much as needed but I want you to know that I LOVE YOU. See you soon!
I may not be the best son, not the best brother. I don’t wish to be one but I would like to believe that we are destined to be the way we are. Well, that’s where I learn from my lessons from anyway - all my mistakes.
TO THE ENVIRONMENT. I am so proud to have joined Cuernos de Negros Mountaineers Club, Inc. of Silliman University for teaching me how to love the environment. Because of that, I was able to travel to 5 countries (USA, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand) for FREE to attend different environmental programs and its alumni engagements.
Aside from being able to see different parts of the world. I am fortunate to learn that there is a problem that we need to do something about. Our children’s lives are at stake.
-
MUSIC, MAGIC, & MOVING PICTURES. MY PASSIONS. I cannot thank you enough. We have been through the happiest and most difficult times of my life. When there’s no one else to talk to and hang out with, you were there.
You even got me jobs!
-
SOUTH KOREA. You are my second home country. You made me realize that I am part of the world, a global citizen. There is the potential of anyone to make a difference even to another individual in the world. Thank you Silliman University and Hannam University for this opportunity!
I am happy I am able to learn Korean so I could understand you. Now, I am giving back by learning your language too. South Korea is beautiful. I know most of you are tired of the pressure in your country. But please, never forget your passions and purpose. There’s more to the world than getting a “good” job and lots of money.
-
EVENTS.
2011 - Moved to Dumaguete to study in Silliman University, Dumaguete City. I lived in Vernon Hall inside the campus, lived in an apartment for summer class, and then lived with mom and sister until I graduated.
2013 - I was exchange student to Hannam University in Daejeon, South Korea. That was my first time abroad. I took up Korean Language classes, Faith and Film, and Advance VIdeo Production Class. I taught English to students during my free time and that’s where I got my allowance.
2015 - I became an academic fellow on Environmental Issues under Young Southeasts Leaders Initiative. We went to Hawaii, Colorado, and Washington DC.
- I founded Food Rescue Philippines (formerly Food Rescue ASEAN)
2016 - I graduated Cum Laude from Silliman University.
March 2020. There’s an ongoing virus called COVID-19 infecting people around the world. Who knows what will happen next? We will not be always safe. I live in a dorm, I live with other people. They may be carrying the disease. I hope not. I have one roommate who still goes to work at this time. I hope he won’t bring the disease in the dorm. There’s currently 187 infected patients in the Philippines and recovery rate has not moved at all.
July 2020. COVID cases are not easing down here in the Philippines. I heard stories of the government just making money out of this situation…
2021 - 2022. Met the worst person in my life. But thank you for making me wiser and way better.
MARCH 2023 - I got hired as Food Rescue Supervisor at Scholars of Sustenance. This is a dream come true. I used to bike and work with volunteers for this advocacy but I now work with a bigger organization that can create more impact.
JULY 2023. I will be turning 30 in 2025. I want to focus on meaningful and valuable work. I also want to create opportunities for myself and others to grow financially, and spriritually.
-
I am happy that I have experienced many jobs. I realized that I can do so much more, and at the same time, I know I will have options when any career I would choose won’t work.
-
LOVE. Love is a BURST of emotions that happen in your body. That feeling is temporary. When choosing a partner, remember BURST.
B - Believe in each other.
U - Understand each other.
R - Respect each other.
S - Support each other.
T - Trust Each Other

Not this time.
Food Rescue Philippines has been selected as national delegate from the Philippines to the World Food Forum (WFF) Flagship 2022 which will be held at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation (FAO) in Rome, Italy from 17 to 21 of October 2022.
But unfortunately, I am not pushing through the program since I do not have enough funds. There’s not enough time to request for sponsorships since the event is less than a month away. That would take time to process, as well as the visa processing.
This should have been my first NYC program, but I guess I will have to join the next ones.
Here’s my official invitation letter from FAO:

Hosting for TVS Philippines at Makina Moto Show 2022, SMX Convention Center Manila.
Special thanks to MetaVoices, TVS Team, Zach of Makina, Handcrafted by Harl's for the leather bowtie.
This actually is my first ever paid hosting gig. (I didn’t tell my client that, haha). I’m glad everything turned out very well! It was not that nerve wracking since, I guess, I have been comfortable in projecting my voice as I am also a voice actor. I also am a performer (actor and magician) so the feeling on stage was somewhat familiar. I just had a different task.
To more firsts! and to more hosting gigs!

What is Magic?
I define Magic as Two Things:
First, magic is an abstract feeling, a feeling of familiarity and unfamiliarity.
Second, magic is a performing art, a hopeful trigger to the feeling of magic.

Mac Florendo: The Story of Voice and Magic
Text by Royanni Miel M. Hontucan; photos courtesy of Mac Florendo
Mac Florendo has always been adventurous. His curiosity and zeal have led him to many ventures: he is a voice artist, a food rescue advocate, a multimedia producer, and a magic show performer.
“I am not comfortable in my comfort zone,” he said when asked about why he continues to create and perform. Florendo´s passion fuels him in his journey.
The young creative
Florendo was born on January 14, 1995, in Zamboanga City to Esmeralda Florendo and Marcos Florendo Jr. who was a regional director of the Securities and Exchange Commission. As a child, Mac has found enjoyment in the performing arts: music (guitar) and playing cards; although being a creative person wasn’t very appreciated in his family when he was young. He recalls, “I always thought I was the black sheep of the family for being creative, but it didn’t discourage me in developing my skills. I failed a lot at first, but I was becoming wiser in every failure.”
Florendo took up Bachelor of Mass Communication at Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, and graduated Cum Laude in 2016. His degree, despite not being his first choice, proved to be valuable later on when he pursued Voice Acting as a career.
In October 2020, he enrolled in the Certified Voice Artist Program (CVAP) of Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales whom he considered his mentor. In February 2021, he left a full-time job and decided to do freelance work creating videos and voice overs. “The voice is an instrument that doesn’t get taken away from you. Voice acting is an art of becoming and another art form of storytelling. In the world of artificial intelligence (AI), emotions are still unique to humans. AI, despite it being very smart, could never copy emotions.” Florendo states.
Going Global
To widen his world, Florendo exposed himself to local and foreign culture. In 2013, he studied Global Communication and advanced video production at Hannam University in Daejeon, South Korea under a foreign student exchange program.
In 2015, he was selected as one of the delegates in the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) where he got to study in the US and met the former President Barack Obama at The White House in Washington DC. “When I was studying in the US, I always ask myself: ‘How would I become a better Filipino?’” Florendo recalls.
This question led him to form a nonprofit organization Food Rescue Philippines (formerly Food Rescue ASEAN), where he and his team would bike around public markets and collect surplus but perfectly edible food. This food would then be distributed to the low-income families in need of food in Dumaguete, quite similar to today’s community pantries.
“Food Rescue is not a feeding program. We are addressing food wastage and hunger by redistributing still-edible food to people in need,” Florendo explains.
Food Rescue Philippines was recognized at the YSEALI Seeds for the Future 2015 and was awarded a grant by the U.S. Mission to ASEAN, and one of the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) of the 14th TAYO Awards in 2017. This recognition motivated Mac to pursue causes that contribute to society.
Florendo is part of Cuernos de Negros Mountaineers Club, a nonprofit organization that gathered mountain climbers and environmentalists. As part of his sustainability and environmental efforts, he would ride his bamboo bike through the streets of Metro Manila in continuing the mission of Food Rescue Philippines in collecting and rescuing food to be distributed to the needy.
https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1567384419983608
But among all these, if Florendo isn’t voice acting or pedaling around to rescue food, he is performing magic.
Magic has always been his fascination: “My father used to gamble a lot and there were a lot of playing cards lying around our house. I played with it and learned magic tricks. I wanted to be a superhero, and I think that performing magic is the closest thing to it,” he said.
Performing magic has led him to become a member of the magic group The Story Circle. In 2017, he won the Championship award in the Runit Decks Cardistry Death Match Championship and became a talent for a Unilab TV ad.
To a more creative future ahead
Presently, he focuses on entertaining people by performing in magic shows, while continuing to develop his voice-acting skills and rescuing food for the community.
Following a creative pursuit is paved with challenges and uncertain times, but Florendo maintains strength by believing in his capabilities, embracing failure, and always moving forward. By committing his life to all these social and creative causes somehow made his childhood dream come true: a superhero.
