I can easily see a future where people have just grudgingly accepted the AI mistranslation as legitimate because we all understand the meaning, so why not? The younger folk who follow that grudging acceptance will just learn that this is the accepted term for it, and never question where it came from, or why.

There'll be some future meme where someone has discovered the history of Mermelada de papel, and shares it in their fav. social media site, and people will be fascinated or amused by the quirky history that led to it.
