This one must be very smart! Or, at least, focused. This face, she knows, Madaj does not see that this could be the look of one who ventures in the sun so often, so there must be sensible things to do indoors, and so, this. Also, more sensible things to do than to brush the hair, she can see.

Madaj likes his company! He is willing to cause the mischief, yes? To play along with her that she is just a simple cat? Good! He has the bright future, if he continues to have this attitude. To be near to Khajiit is near to the gods, yes?

Dagi! She does not see them in Skyrim most often, how is it this happens? She has the fur most lovely, even for Dagi, who always have the darkest blots, yes, this is most fortunate, to see such a handsome cousin in this place.

She is a good-humored one, yes! This one has the open face, she must dance through her days. So many ones with red hair! And she has the eyes like a south-seas cat, this is most lucky for her.

"Ma'Jahrann cannot pretend making the most lovely tea, but this one indeed owns a few Elsweyri blends of great taste! Thank you for the braids, friend, Ma'Jahrann's mother taught her a while ago. Apparently, they come from Anequina?"
Yes, this is familiar to her! They do this there to keep the sand from the fur. Very sensible and very beautiful. Ma’Jahrann, she wears them well, yes? Surely she must brew the tea as well as she wears her hair!

Hmm, he is strong. Strong shoulders, like the horses here, yes? He is like the horse. This is good, too, horses are very truthful, he is a truthful thing to be, with the strong back. Not as good as being like the Khajiit, of course, but this is something Nords like better.

She looks like the Khajiit! As much as the ones who have no fur can look, with the small chin and the little nose. Ah, she is lovely, nobody could ask for the higher compliment from the gods than to have a face like a cat, it is the most beautiful of faces to be given.

He, he has the lovely desert hair too! This, perhaps, is the only thing Madaj regrets she cannot have, for her head is too small to have this like they all do. It is fortunate that she makes up for it in other avenues. This one, he should be wearing the finer clothing, he looks like he would appreciate this, and have the good taste, wear the bright colors all at once. He should, yes, this is the sort of thing Madaj can appreciate as well, she is sure.

Ah, the Tojay! Madaj sees so few of the Khajiiti here, and not so many of the Tojay or the Rahti, yes? She has the braids most lovely, like home! She carries the tea, Madaj can smell this, perhaps she can make the tea most lovely as well, nobody would carry this, that could not use it!

bookofalmsivi:
[The cat is speaking to him. The cat is speaking to him. This is something that Neht’s brain can’t compute right now. He can speak to cats. Could he always speak to cats? Is this a new development? Can all cats speak?]
Ah. Yes. Yes, we’re in complete agreement then. Absolutely.
[Wait a second. Wait just a second here. Neht remembers old Kammus from Mournhold, that Khajiiti knight who always claimed his mother was a tiger and his father was a housecat. He wasn’t being entirely facetious.]
Oh fuck, I-I mean, oh dear, I’m so sorry, miss, I didn’t realize you were Khajiiti. Ah. Sorry.
Madaj cackles, sitting up and switching her tail back and forth rapidly, patting her ruff of fur self-importantly. She’s too, too satisfied with this reaction, and with the bevy of compliments that preceded it. She smoothes her whiskers back, delicately, once the laughter has subsided, and gives the Dunmer a pitying pat on the shin.
“Does he think that she is not used to this? No! She is most pleased, it is funny. He gives her the wonderful admiration, and then the apology. How polite, yes?”

She is the clever one! She admits to Madaj where she has the weakness, and she knows she is not the same way as khajiit. This is wise. This is the wisest of things the furless people can do, yes? To admit they do not know the same things as she.

Hair like the desert! Most splendid, she has not seen this color on the Altmer most times, remarkable, yes? So much of this, like the mane of the horse and the tail at the same time, and the waves of the sea.

Strong one! She has the eyes and the spots like the south desert Khajiiti, in their sandy fur. Very fine, perhaps one day in another life she will be wise enough to have the fur to go with, yes?

But he is so tall! Madaj, she so rarely sees even the Altmer who are this height, those who are not Rahti, when do they reach it? She does not see many of the Altmer, though, so what does she know of the matter? Other than this, hm, he has the clever face, for one without the fur, and he tries to grow the fur, you see, one must be wise who tries to emulate khajiit with the beard, yes?

Hmmmm. He has the charming hair on the head, yes, which she finds that many of the furless people are lacking, for either they do not know to wash themselves or it has fallen out. Not so, this one, this man, and he has quite the face, also. Perhaps, one day, he will have hair as magnificent as her fur is. She sees potential.

cholalaxi:
“I… perhaps. I’m not sure why else it might have happened…” The artist rests her fingertips on her lips, staring in puzzlement at Madaj. She’d heard of housecats that could speak traveling with some of the caravans, but she’d never approached one herself…
Lock looks at her sharply. “Do you still have the book it was in? When did you paint this?” If the poem was an incantation, they’d need to get it somewhere out of untrained hands. There could be others, if it was a collection.
She seems momentarily taken aback, snapped out of her thoughts. “About a month ago. I believe it’s still in our library…”
Madaj makes a contemplative sound and leaps lightly up onto the low, makeshift plank table that the woman is sitting behind. Looking over at Lock, she nods, as if she’s received some sort of affirmation with his sudden, more directed interest.
She turns to the woman and determinedly stamps a front foot, to emphasize the importance of the question. “Could she, and he, perhaps, see this book?”
