If the ultimate ending is that everyone was involved in a murder it goes back again to sleepers and how two people killed someone who abused them, two of their friends helped them get away with it, a priest gave a fake testimony, another friend looked for info on the abusers and someone with connection paid to make the other witnesses from the crime scene go away…. Seven people involved just like the seven promo pictures we got of the cast

Mary's death did not happen that way! It was so overly dramatic. Maybe Mycroft had finally a succesfull flight of the death to make her reach her final destination. All of his plane plans seem to be (self)sabotaged. Or Sherlock is still in Magnussens office and everything after that is EMP. So many possibilities with the glowing skull, so little resolution! Btw, In the elevator scene with John and Sherlock it seems that only one of them has open eyes at a time. So perhaps this also points to projecting in EMP. Loose threads, everywhere. Thank God you people can see them too ;).
Hi Steph! So I am not sure if someone has written about it already (if someone did, please link me?), but that line at the end when Sherlock says "I'm Sherlock Holmes, I wear the damn hat. [Pause. Then said offscreen] Isn't that right, Mary?" and Jorn turns around in surprise, like, what is happening? Is that scene also not real/corrupted memory? I feel like it turns the whole episode on its head even more than it already is. So many questions, please let TFP be good to us :)
Also, I’m sorry I am being annoying, but the skull hell we’ve been in, have you noticed the skull in that confession scene? I rewatched the whole scene just to be sure: we are shown that skull exactly once, while John says “I cheated on her. [camera angle change] No clever comeback? I cheated on you, Mary.” and it’s glowing! The rest of the time the angle of the shot is such that JOHN IS BLOCKING THE PAINTING FROM VIEW! It has to be deliberate, right?
Hey Lovely, not annoying at all. I’m a shit because this has been in my askbox for months, LOL.
Yeah, I’m totally all aboard the “nothing is real” train here. I think the acknowledgement of Mary in that scene is Sherlock acknowledging John’s struggles and issues, and I think Sherlock knew that Mary liked the hat (ie. hiding Sherlock’s sexuality). As I’ve mentioned numerous times, I do believe most if not all of TLD, no matter how lovely the hug was, is an altered memory. I really feel strongly that TD-12 is involved in everything since Mary’s appearance in their lives, I really do. I’m still on the fence about if Mary is alive or not, but her “death” absolutely did not happen the way it did on screen.
And that skull painting has been a curse to us since it was on screen. I think that it is DEFINITELY a HUGE FUCKING CLUE that we are not seeing the true story… I think of the skull as us being able to see Sherlock’s state of mind of sorts, since I think it has been compared to him in the past. So maybe we’re still on the Tarmac and everything is happening in Sherlock’s head, maybe we are watching a blog entry / unreliable narration. Who knows. But it’s definitely deliberate, in my opinion, that the skull is being hidden the whole scene.

Eurus is also John's sexuality because she wears dumb disguises and gets away with it because no one expects her, so no one pays attention.

They want us to doubt them. Like Moriarty wanted us to doubt his identity, he was just Richard Brook, the story teller. This is Mark and Stephen playing Moriarty with us, causing doubt. Even if there never will be a fifth season, it showed how terrible it is do drown in emotions/lies/alcohol.
Also, I think that season 4 shows painstakingly how hard is is to be something that you are not. John tried so hard to be straight, he lost his own identity. Lost himself in drinking, cheating and probably killing his wife. I think that the writers want to make clear the price he pays to make society happy is to high. They made it extra painful with the booze and all the hints of Mary cheating.
The thing with Mary is also a bit weird, Sherlock keeps liking her, so it seems. At this point Mary is a bit Schrodingers cat: death or alive, we don't know for sure. We don't really know who killed her. Norbury could be anyone, even Sherlocks mother figuring both of her sons plans out. (Would be badass) Technically Mary Morstan was never alive, so how do you kill a death woman? And how does John kill his straight identity, something thats not real either? You can't kill feelings, but feelings can make you kill you.
Just random queastions. 1.) Do you think, that they maybe changed their mind after the reaction to the withanaccent-interview and felt so insulted, that they decided, to not make Johnlock canon after all? 2.) The tarmac-scene has some big similaritis to a scene in DW (don´t know what to say; question about the future; last chance to say "it") and is just built up like a love confession-scene. Do you think that maybe TPTB didn´t notice this? Or really thought it was funny? I´m so confused... tbc
3.)Benedict seems to be such a nice person (I love Martin even more, but he is not so outwardly caring.) etc. and i just can´t imagine him agreeing to queerbaiting? (I find most of “TJLC-Evidence” not very convincing, because I would also die etc. for a friend, but the tarmac-scene is imo queerbaiting/almost love confession. They HAVE TO notice what the scene implies!?). 4.)They always say it is their show etc. and that they don´t care about critics, do they really think of themself as SO GOOD?
5.) They said, that ACD did a mistake with Mary. Why do they do the same? I completly hate that dog-comperison/Mary-is-better-scene (TST is my least favoruite episode). It had to be a active descision to give Mary the narration over John ( THE ACTUAL NARRATOR!). They can´t just ignore all the terrible things they say about Mary and make her some angel asassian who saves John/Sherlock and is better than everyone?! And she is there the WHOLE TIME! She killed Sherlock! Why? Why? Why? For Amanda???
6.) There is that Amanda Abbington-Interview where she talks about coming back. Do you really thing that we´ll maybe have to see Mary-flashbacks/callbacks in every new episode? 7.) Prior to season 4, they said that they have 3 new cases etc., but in the end it wasn´t really like in season 1-2 (season 3 actually was my favorite season, but it clearly was different). TST and TFP ended in family drama. Do you trust them to go back to “normal” cases, without the need to over complicate everything?
8.)Do you think, that they maybe change their mind “pro-johnlock”(if it really was just a joke to them), after critics like Indiewire etc. called them out for the queerbaiting/John and Sherlocks feelings for eachother? That maybe they´ll realize that it´s not just “teenager girls” “hallucinating”? 9.)Do you believe in a season 5 (especially with BC as DS now)? 10.)Will we ever know, what John wanted to say in TRF? 11.)With TFP i wonder,do they truly believe we watch the show for the plot twists?
Oh Wow, Lots of stuff to get to here! Let’s have a look-see!
Well, that interview would have had nothing to do with any of their decisions; if a journalist had that kind of power in the history of Sherlock ever, then it would have been canon in S2, or ahdblock been canon in S3, or sher/0//ie canon in episode one. Like… no, and that interview was garbage anyway. Anything that Mofftiss have done, is COMPLETELY on them and MAYBE the BBC. They were already filming TFP, I believe, around that time frame, so no, it had no bearing whatsoever on the outcome of the series.
Ah, yup, Doomsday’s Bad Wolf Bay and the tarmac scene are pretty much identical (and just as painful), yet no one argues what The Doctor was going to say. But years later, we STILL have to prove to people that Sherlock indeed was going to and did tell John that he loved him. It drives me crazy. Mofftiss knew EXACTLY what they were doing, especially since the scene has parallels to the tarmac scene’s unspoken love in Casablanca. They did it on purpose; it’s even framed similarily to that tarmac, and the wording similar to Bad Wolf Bay. Just… They can’t seriously expect us to not believe it wasn’t meant romantically.
Well, to be fair, I don’t think EITHER OF THEM wanted to be part of a giant queerbaiting fest. They both seemed immensely proud of their portrayals of their characters, Ben AND Martin played both of their characters gay and bi respectively, and BOTH men support LGBT causes and Ben is vocal against homophobia (I’m pretty sure Martin is as well, I just know Ben’s interviews better). I really honestly believe that they thought they were creating something different and were led to believe a different outcome of their character arcs than what we got. I don’t fault them at all – they are just puppets for the puppetmasters.
Oh, they’re lying so hard about their lack of caring… If they didn’t care, Gattiss wouldn’t have written back, in prose, to a critic and Moffat wouldn’t be like “I don’t understand why no one likes this season” (paraphrasing, of course, but his blasé attitude is SO annoying and pretentious). Neither of them have really, otherwise, done anything but remain in hiding after the fallout of S4. It’s both suspicious and really REALLY annoyingly petty.
Yeah, I STILL am reeling over their complete 180˚ of Mary’s character. It makes no fucking sense; they clearly were combining her character with that of the role of Sebastian Moran in ACD canon, and the arc was going to be brilliant. I have a lot of personal very biased opinions on why they did it, but yeah, it doesn’t make any fucking sense. THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING with her character. That and Moffat is terrible at writing women characters at the end of their arcs. If anything, her character was just unnecessarily shoehorned into a bigger role because they decided last minute to NOT make her Moran after all even though they STILL tied her character to Moriarty in S4. ACD did WAY better with Mary as a background character. And YES, it was SO WRONG of her to be the narrator, just… NO she’s NOT the one telling the stories. Ugh.
Ugh, is there? Okay, look, IF – IFFFFF –  it’s shown in S5 that all of S4 was a ruse orchestrated by mostly her hand, reverting her character back to where it should be, THEN maybe I can accept her back in the fifth season and make her the badass villain she was SUPPOSED to be. I don’t believe she is dead because her gunshot was fake af, although I do ALSO believe that she may have been killed John in the false narrative scenario. If she comes back, it will be to explain her true actions in S4. Otherwise, she’s dead, we don’t need to see her anymore. Flashbacks maybe, but that’s it.
S3 was my favourite season too, but I think that’s a personal bias because I love Sherlock’s character so much and I loved seeing how far their relationship arc progressed. T6T and TLD barely even HAD cases… and TFP, I don’t know her… so I don’t know where this idea came from. The whole season seemed intent on keeping John and Sherlock as distant from each other as possible, making Sherlock the sidekick TO MARY in his own show, and putting “no one asked for this” focus on Mary. Look, I know it sounds like I hate her, but I REALLY DON’T. I hate what they DID TO HER CHARACTER, and trying to call S4 a case-centred series when CLEARLY the case was a moot point in the first episode to Mary-backstory, it’s ridiculous. There wasn’t really a case in TLD – Sherlock was high off his rocker through most of the episode and Culverton did his weird creepy rapey thing. And I don’t even know what the fuck case was happening in TFP. I WANT to trust them to go back to Just The Two of Them Against the Rest of the World (what was that line even, then?!?!), but I fear that they won’t and will find a way to shoehorn another character-we-don’t-care-about *coughs* Eurus*coughs* into the story.
Oh, I don’t think anyone could change Mofftiss’ minds. Look, if Johnlock DOES become canon, it will be because it was the plan all along, but because of how far S4 strayed off the narrative arc, it will look like they did it because of public outcry, NOT because it was their brilliant plan. They should have just stuck to the narrative rather than try for a publicity stunt that will probably work against them in the end.
Tough to say about S5. There are reports about it being already commissioned, but I fear the negative reception may keep Martin and Ben far away from it if it turns out it really is a face-value series. I don’t know. BBC seems proud of what they got, so probably will get one. It’s one of the BBC’s top-rated shows (I think pre-S4 it was higher than Dr. Who), so who knows.
Hahaha nope, I don’t think so. I USED to think we would, that Mofftiss were better writers together and would at least round out all the plot holes, but… S4 leaves me skeptical on a lot of things.
I REALLY do think that they think we like the plot twists rather than the stories. Like… no. People were watching for the relationship, whether they knew it or not, platonic or not. The story of two men with the greatest friendship / relationship of all time. Not for … whatever the hell TFP was.
Whew!

Omg! You are so right. Technically Mary Morstan is already death. She was never alive. Yust like the straight identities gay people make for themselves, they are fake. They don't excist. And how do you kill a person that doesn't excist. That's the problem. Maybe even the final problem.
Night Owl or Vampire? Confirming the Plan.
I’m more and more convinced of @warmth-and-constancy‘s theory of the texts seemingly between John and ‘E’ actually being coded texts between John and Sherlock. (x)
And this bit made me do a double take.
Night owl? Vampire :)
What’s going on here? They have already shown us John and Sherlock have code words that mean absolutely nothing to anyone else overhearing: VATICAN CAMEOS. They have shown us Sherlock already uses one-word names as code for plans- LAZARUS in The Empty Hearse.
Night owl and Vampire are two plans waiting to be put into action. John asks Sherlock: Night Owl?= Are we still waiting in the dark, biding our time, just watching and listening?
No, Sherlock says. The time has come for action: VAMPIRE. And John smiles in response. He’s giving that plan the green light.
VAMPIRE IS GO.

My thoughts on John Watson
I think no one would argue that he suffers from depression, low self esteem and has contemplated suicide more than once.
I think he found a slice of happiness with Sherlock. Even stopped dating and was planning on spending the rest of his life with him. I don’t think anyone can deny that John was hitting on Sherlock that first night at Angelos. I think after ASiB he was ready to live a life with Sherlock, even just as friends.
Then Sherlock committed suicide in front of John. I’ve no doubt that John blamed himself for that, after all everything is his fault, he’s said so himself. He was undoubtedly depressed after. I would not doubt he contemplated suicide again. I think there is a lot of evidence to say that he saw/heard Sherlock in his head this whole time.
Low and behold Mary comes along. Now, she was no Sherlock. But she showed interest in John. John, who obviously doesn’t do well alone. He likely thought that at least he’d have someone. And oh how Mary took advantage of a poor, depressed, unhappy man and hooked her claws into him. Look at MHR and the beginning of TEH. Did John look like a happy man to you? Nope.
Then Sherlock swooped back into his life unannounced. And during John’s “romantic” *eye roll* proposal. Shocks the shit outta John. And then, when they really need time to talk, Mary doesn’t fuck off, instead she sticks around and also sides with Sherlock the whole time. Real nice Mary. So John discovers that Sherlock faked his death, lied for two years, told a bunch of people but NOT HIM and never once tried to contact him. (not that Sherlock didn’t suffer too, but this post is about John, so chill Sherlock lovers).
So, John decided to still propose to Mary. Sherlock has, at this point, shown zero interest in a relationship with him. From JOHN’s POV easily replaced him Molly for cases (he has no idea Sherlock was hearing him in his head or calling his name out loud). Oh COURSE John would still marry Mary, why wouldn’t he? Sherlock then showed extreme interest in helping plan the wedding. From outward appearances didn’t show that the wedding itself was distressing to him, even Mary played into this lie, telling John that he just needed a break and to get out on cases. John even tried ONE MORE TIME to hit on Sherlock on his stag night, with no result again. Again, why is anyone surprised he still got married??
And then Mary was pregnant. So, even after he was miserable in his marriage, and Sherlock wasn’t contacting him but was still chatting with Mary behind his back, what was he supposed to do? Even after Mary shot Sherlock. John DID leave her for MONTHS. But SHERLOCK told him to go back to her, that she didn’t mean it bla bla bla. Obviously Sherlock didn’t want him. Mary was having his baby, and Sherlock WANTED him to go back to her. OF COURSE he went back. Even though it made him miserable and depressed.
Then S4 happened. And although I’d rather forget it, I just can’t. It starts out with Sherlock ignoring John’s texts. With Sherlock telling John he’d rather have Mary along on cases than him and them both joking about John and comparing him to a dog. Real nice. Real great for someone with depression and low self esteem. Then Mary dies, it all still seems really fake and over the top to me, but whatever. I’m sure John thinks Mary is the only person that will ever love him. Now she’s dead. Now he’s alone again. Leaving the baby at “friends.”
I honestly think John was trying to make a clean break from Sherlock for the good of the both of them. It obviously didn’t work as he forced back in. It’s a shame S4 went so off the rails.
These are just my thoughts on John’s POV. I do think both he and Sherlock have made many mistakes. I do believe both those idiots are in love with each other too. With John we have a man with trust issues and depression and self esteem issues. These two guys really need to sit down and have a good talk.

Parallels between AsiB and season 4
I tried to make a list if all the mirrors and foils in AsiB and season 4 because I saw so many similarities. Bit of a long post i’m afraid. Feel free to add mirrors and foils!
ASiB and T6T - both Irene and Mary drug Sherlock when they want something he has. - John suggesting baby names. - leash, Irene wants Sherlock on a leash, Toby is on a leash. - Both feature mythical stories: Coventry vs Samarra. - A lot of leather gloves? Mycroft, Irene, Sherlock, Mary are spotted wearing gloves. Ajay doesn’t wear gloves. - Husband has an affair, Client vs Mary’s husband John(or so it seems - Fire! john starts one in Asib and the cars burn in t6t. Mary also gets cremated.
- Break ins, Irene breaks into 221b, multiple break ins to destroy Thatcher busts. -video/memories with distortions/ scratches. Saving Irene vs videos all over season 4. -59 messages vs 59 missed calls - one case leads to another: hiker leads to bond air. Charlie leads to Thatcher. Both first deaths are accidental. - irene and mary travel the world, to keep safe so it seems. - both women seem to outsmart Sherlock, but he catches up with them. - a lot of people want Irene and mary death. However Mycroft wants Irene alive and Mary death? - death on a plane. Bond air vs mary killing a flight attendant (so many death/ injured assistents in this show!) mary is introduced as death. Irene is treathened with death is her plan fails by moriarty. - possibly faked deaths in both episodes - CIA: interested in Irene, Mary worked for them - back in London? Asks Sherlock about Irene. The black pearl resurfaces in London. Mycroft searches ages for this pearl - disguises - both irene and mary know how to fake a death.
AsiB and TLD
-morgue is featured - Both irene and Faith/who ever she was, (could possibly be mycroft, he also busts the flat. And was sedated for dentistry) something that was theirs in Baker street for Sherlock to notice. Irene even breaks in twice. - wicked. Irenes says this to the queen. Sherlock mentions by the pricking of my thumbs (something wicked this way comes, or something like that) the universe is rarely so lazy? - agains drugs/ possible drugging. - Sherlock does not remember getting to 221b. - phone stealing, password guessing, - culverton comes on to Sherlock when he tries to kill Sherlock. Irene flirts/ kisses Sherlock on his cheek. - John starts a fire in Asib, but saves Sherlock in t6t with a fire extinguisher. -tea code -irene slaps Sherlock. Molly slapped him too. John attacked sherlock in both episodes. - secrets doors! -Culverton and irene both drug famous people. Power play. - both Culverton and Irene send a car to pick Sherlock/ John up. - people in the back of a car. Death man named John vs Sherlock. - Mrs. Hudson is bad ass. - irene texts sherlock vs sherlock texts irene
ASiB and TFP: all fuckiness aside. I describe seen similarities, real or not. To me this episode is someones nightmare. -bond references - helicopters - fragmented messages: radio vs irenes bond air mail - drugged again - mycroft plans backfire, again there are lies about a woman, who is also declared death(Famous Moffat theme?) - planes - same girl stars im both episodes. - plane with death people/ people asleep - code taking a long time to decipher - fire, again…. - bombs on a plane vs plane acts like a bomb vs bombs in baker street -playing a game with a woman. - both women are interested in Sherlocks Sex life - Again Sherlock got hit by a dark haired woman! - first aid is administered. - the CIA guy is seen with Moriarty, links him to Mycroft? - christmas presents are shown - moriarty - queen - reference to anal acts: back door, better use it Dr Watson and “so no cavity search” mentioned by john. Moriarty mentioning sex with the cia guys. - disguises. Mycroft as a fisherman, must mean he is a shark right? Or a big catch, haha. John is not disguised. - mentioning of John being a Soldier - x-ray. Phone is x rayed. And possibly John, whose dream this possibly is. Golf whisky xray. We see xrays on a computer. - a john mirror: hiker gets hit in the head. John gets shot/ sedated. Rubs his head. - irenes theme gets played -vatican cameos
I’ll tag a few people, because i’m new to tumblr. Therefore I don’t have the followers. Please let me know if you find more things! @inevitably-johnlocked @toxicsemicolon @jenna221b @tjlcisthenewsexy

Let's hope so! John paints the yellow smiley in the end? He holds an awful amount of yellow things this series. All the bus and car railings are the same colour as the smiley? In other series the handles are of a different colour.
Tumblr media
“Fresh paint to disguise another smell.”
The smell was gay love and the fresh paint is series four. But who is the painter?

Hey! I was wondering if you think Mary is queercoded? Something about that "I always liked Mary" felt weird, like she's not Mary but Gabrielle heartbroken over Mary. She also wears a lot of green (the victorian gay colour) and red. So the lady in red/green. Also the thumbs up and thumbs down shirt, whilst Mary holds her thumbs up, sends out some mixed signals? What do you think? Green with envy or something else?
Anonymous said to inevitably-johnlocked: Hi Steph! Not sure if someone already asked this, but do you think Mary is straight?
Hey Nonnies!
You know, I’ve never actually thought about it at length, but I know @shylockgnomes has written meta about how either Mary or Molly is (I can’t remember who – I think both), and I have seen people speculate that Janine is not just Mary’s confidante but her s/o that she had to abandon for the “separate Sherlock from John mission”, which is the theory I go with, since I think Janine is also associated with Moriarty and why Mary was able to break into CAM’S. One of Sherlock’s deductions about Mary was “cat lover” which some people speculate is a euphemism for her liking women, so there’s that as well.
And in a pessimistic wankish side speculation: we can assume so since literally every villain on this show is queer-coded, so yeah, quite possible.

GOOD NIGHT VIENNA
Could someone tell me the significance of this phrase? I can’t quite remember which episode of s2 Sherlock made an offhand remark about it.
For some reason I thought it was an Ultrovox reference at first but its origin is Liverpudlian slang .
Is there some other significance of it as to why he said that?
hmmmm

I agree with you, but i think Mark did this on purpose to show how all the queerbaiting made him feel? All the other nice tv shows like The big bang theory and bones never make long term gay romances work out or only joke about them. Usually you get excited and boom, it's over after one episode.
Maybe there are many reasons why I hated s4, but in essence, yes, the fact that we didn’t get a John and Sherlock kiss WAS the main reason. I am owning that. Why? Because it’s not trivial, it’s not immature, stupid, pathetic or silly. For me to want a romantic resolution to the main couple’s relationship on the show is exactly what I should have been expecting. It was set up that way. They chickened out and gave us a tender hug, a few scenes of almost parentlock, but that was just a consolation prize. Wanting the johnlock kiss is not a ‘bad’ thing, and I will not accept shame for wanting it. Every other fucking romance on screen has that expectation, so why not Sherlock and John? Because they are both men? Well then that is homophobia. Because I read into the show something that wasn’t there? See my five years of documented meta in my archive for my argument on that one. Oh and even better, look through the meta of the entire johnlock fandom, as it’s not just one person seeing this, it’s thousands. I wil not relegate my desire to see these two men ‘loved up’ and happy to a shameful place. I stand in the open and demand to be seen. Yes, I wanted a johnlock kiss and was devastated I was denied it.

Mary is also a moment killer, a nurse and a killer 😷

#21 - Moment Killer
“It’s really going to happen this time. They are about to share with each other their feelings after years of keeping them hidden. They come closer together and look into each other’s eyes; there has never been a moment so perfect. […] [Then someone] walks through the door, wanting to talk to them, […] Whatever was there has been shot down dead.”
…the stag night scene was rife with tension of the unspoken - feet on chairs, hands on knees, and leaning into each other’s spaces. With their inhibitions lowered by all the alcohol they had consumed earlier, they were in the perfect position to make some drunken confessions (would they remember in the morning? Maybe, maybe not).
And then Mrs. Hudson walked in with a client, and we never get to find out where the night would have taken them. [ref x, x]

So the twitters just confirmed that night owl/vampire 3am twitter conversation was indeed Sherlock & John, not John and E. [x]
if you’re like me, you’ve assumed as much since you saw the scene and heard a violin spring up when the text comes in and figure uh, if john’s gonna cheat on mary, itll be with sherlock.
some other implications:
-sherlock and john are in cahoots
-sherlock and john are cheating………. the game…………………. you get it….. theyre not playing chess anymore, flip the board over… cheating….. and also cheating……. like in both senses theyre cheating…. ha hah… no fair there’s 2 of you
-sherlock and john are in cahoots and keeping it away from mary, implying they probably have a Mary Plan they’re in the process of
-in keeping their cahoots away from mary, they are keeping evidence of their cahoots away from the FOOTAGE WE ARE SEEING.
-it’s implied E gave John the number to sherlock’s PRIVATE PHONE (private heart… private life of sherlock holmes… 2 phones… public heart he deletes john off of… only cases… waves around everywhere… private phone only 4 john… private heart only 4 john…. u get it…) so she’s either a fucking fake memory replacement or she’s In On It Too (this is me… well, a me substitute)
-The Hug Scene: entirely possible they fuckin TD12 amnesia juiced themselves up a la fucking death note to ensure whatever plan they had went perfecto.. cant tip anyone off that youre cahooting if you cant remember youre cahooting right?? and poor sherlocks gotta get wiggins in there to help pump him full of the stuff because how do you forget anything when you have a mind palace MADE to ensure that you never forget anything…. (really… sherlock wouldnt need wiggin’s “””””help””””” if he was just shooting heroin)…. and it all comes back once you’re off the stuff so sherlock’s fucking face journey while john is talking to mind!mary is like 1. holy shit that was ME texting john ha ha “i text too… uhhhhh the woman i mean” 2. holy shit mary is alive i remember she faked her death what an absolute ledge that woman 3. holy shit john holy shit fucking christ wow
-so sherlock gets the flashdrive and an unknown amount of time passes but apparently at some point we DONT SEE he goes to john and johns like “fuck, my awful wife is definitely going to run away put a tracer in that shit also sherlock youre a bloody idiot getting in fights with random dudes he couldve KILLED YOU YOU MORON”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“somebody loves you… if I had to slap that face I’d avoid your nose and teeth too..”
Tumblr media
its the same fucking spot
like either AJ LOVES SHERLOCK or they had a CAHOOTS meeting oddly NOT PRESENT in the footage we have access to and john maybe got A LITTLE ANGRY

Very well said. Sad but true.
Reason Number Infinity Why Sherlock is Gay
Sherlock is constantly tortured physically and emotionally for funsies
Almost always at the hands of the very few people he trusts and cares about - Mycroft, John, Eurus, and yes EVEN Mary, Molly, and Irene
Almost always undeservedly and/or out of proportion to his supposed “transgression” and almost always an “unforgiven” card held against him
His abusers are never held accountable - Mycroft is constantly an asshole who sold his brother to the criminal organization Moriarty and knowing Mary’s assassin past allowed her within killing distance in his life, John (even *if* the TLD beating were not real) beats him up in TEH, Eurus (*if* she were real) ends up being a zombie leech for the remainder of her unresponsive existence just waiting for them to not pay her attention so she can go on a murder spree again… and we all know how Mary, Molly, and Irene were disposed of in their arcs
His suffering never becomes worth it in the end of the episode / season - there never is a payoff, or even acknowledgement, let alone gratitude
If the film and television ethics board is still following the now defunct rulebook of only allowing explicitly queer characters onscreen if and only if they are punished, killed, demonised, or otherwise tortured in body and psyche, then the way Sherlock’s arc is written in BBC acknowledges him as gay.
In fact, all the villains except Mary Morstan are consistent with this long standing practice in film and television - that’s why Jiminy Creeper and Eurus are over-the-top cartoonish AND disgusting in their unapologetic rape and mutilation of side characters, why Magnussen licks and kisses Sherlock while Sherlock was drugged and injured, why Jefferson Hope “can do ANYTHING to [drugged Sherlock] but will ONLY kill [him]”, why Gary and Billy of The Cross Keys Inn (not villains, but low key shady) exploits the Hound rumour for financial gain, why Kate and the unnamed black dress New Year’s Day lady are drugged and discarded henchmen, and why Harry Watson exists only in name - and is an embarrassing blog-shit-commenting alcoholic divorcee at that.
A male Mary Sue aka a protagonist - especially a white straight male protagonist - gets his resolution, his hero’s welcome, his happy ending, and - lbr - the considered ultimate prize, aka the person objectified by the male gaze.
That Sherlock did not get any of his supposed female “prizes” whom he is supposed to be paired with (because heteronormativity) and got merely an ambiguous parentlock with John, tells us he is not the “white straight male protagonist” who wins all the equips and loot and make-over upon levelling up that’s staple in any “white straight male protagonist” journey of print or screen.
That Sherlock never gets his hero’s welcome, resolution, vindication, healing, or a simple thank you from any of the people whose lives he saved, tells us the writing is consistent with the old ethics rulebook that requires queer characters to constantly atone for their very nature if they want to even exist onscreen.
If Sherlock were the standard film-and-television ethics rulebook follower of the “white straight male protagonist” template, then he would have gotten the staple wedding/fucking with Irene/Molly/insert female character objectified by the male protagonist’s gaze here.
But he did not get that, and the rulebook says he can’t explicitly have John and be allowed happiness while in a romantic / sexual relationship with John.
(This is also why he and Jiminy Creeper will never be together, but I digress.)
Granted, that rule is no longer required in 2017, but it is still the guiding rule at least in practice for any production outfit that doesn’t want to lose money, audience, and advertisers / affiliates / investors.
Yes it’s about money, yes the average viewer “doesn’t want the gay shoved down their throat” in mainstream media, and yes the majority of people who have money and can make networks talk to their tune are not LGB+ friendly.
It is what it is, and what it is is shit.
BBC Sherlock could easily have ended with a kissing scene (or even a hand holding or even a platonic hug or even a Eurus-explanation to Molly or a winky text to Irene or a surprise “open to interpretation” visit to Janine in Sussex Downs) with some female side character - most het shows and heroes get laid for far less emotional labour than Sherlock’s output - but did not go there.
In the end, Sherlock and Molly Hooper were not even in the same frame, Irene Adler is a disembodied years-past moan, Janine Hawkins/Donlevy is forgotten, and Mary Morstan who had the most of Sherlock’s attention among the women in his life is dead. This hero doesn’t get the girl. And never will nor wants to.
Sherlock has always been gay since its inception in ACD, but BBC finally acknowledges that Sherlock Holmes is gay - albeit in their prudent softly softly way - because his journey is not that of the “white straight male protagonist” but the “suffer undeservedly and excessively until you die” template of the acknowledged queer characters of print and screen.
Regardless of how you feel about the creators, actors (especially particular actors), fandom, source material, and surrounding academia in the past 130 years, the point remains that BBC’s writing of Sherlock Holmes’ arc is consistent with 2 things: The straight-queer dichotomy of journey templates AND production business practices.
Is it fucked up? Depends on whose perspective. A conservative would say it’s a good thing; a member of the oppressed Venn diagram of female, queer, and POC would not. But the consistency does exist. Both sides can see it exists.
Give Sherlock vindication and all the trappings of a white straight male protagonist’s arc if you want to claim he is even a straight-passing protagonist, because the creative and business decisions both refuse to let him pass.
Give the BBC incarnation of Sherlock Holmes a simple non-manipulative kiss with any female poison of choice (without a gun to their heads) if you want his articulately researched and century-old evidenced gayness “disproved” because the creative and business decisions both say gay.
Constantly tortured physically and emotionally for shits and giggles: The hallmark of mainstream print and screen queer representation.
It is what it is, and what it is is shit.
