Scientists have discovered a way to read scrolls from an ancient library, destroyed when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D. Around 1,800 scrolls were rescued from a villa near Pompeii in the 1750s, but only about 300 of those still exist today. The new x-ray method allows researchers to see changes in the thickness of the scroll where ink was used.
