Le Packing

Having de-cluttered for the viewings, today we addressed the basement.

This was our “forever home”. I never though that - old age care aside - we would leave this house. And, so, I filled the basement with my retirement collection.

Future “Who”. Fun stuff to have to sell for a little profit, say, 30 years after its time.

Already I’ve sold a £3 for £50, and my most rare, collectible, for £90.

But, OMG, I was not prepared for over 2,000 items stored in our basement. In terms of volume it is more than half what we have to take.

And So It Goes

Today we leave Ostuni to return home, to London, for the last time.

I moved to London in February 2001. Apart from studying and working in the US in 1988/89, I had lived all my life in Scotland.

I’m ready to leave London. But don’t get me wrong. London has been good to me. I have lived, and loved, in London. I got married in London.

I’ve performed with @LdnGMC for over 13 years. I’ve shared the stage with Elton John, recorded an album with Mark Ronson, performed in front of Michael Caine, Calvin Harris, Tracey Emin and Sir Ian, to name but a few. I’ve even sung the national anthem to HMQueen.

I’ve been to the theatre over 500 times. Culturally London has been a wonderful place to live, London 2012 being only one of the highlights.

London has enabled me to retire at 50, and now it is time to move on.

One of the first things to do on my return to London will be to give my notice. To announce my retirement. To negotiate my own personal Brexit (I’m hoping that will be less than the 3 month notice period I have, given that I will be “homeless” in just over 4 weeks).

Then it will be full steam ahead and time to organise the next stage of my life…

Everything Ends

Today we exchanged on the sale of the house that was our dream home. Bought a little less than 7 years ago, we loved it from the outset. Each and every time I came home, it felt like home. But we have a new dream.
