don’t let them rewrite history to make you think Red was this universally beloved album in its day that just didn’t get the award recognition it deserved. red became a FAN favorite album because if you were a fan back then you got to enjoy the fact that Taylor was reaching new heights creatively and putting this beautiful music into the world, in spite of the fact that she was under renewed and near-constant attacks from the media for dating, breathing, and existing in a way that people decided was unacceptable. It was actually a very hard and unpopular time to be a Taylor Swift fan regardless of her commercial success. That started slowly changing in mid to late 2014 when 1989 was announced and she became more assertive about defending herself against misogyny in the press. But the Red album in real time was a case of a young woman coming into her own creatively and being largely misunderstood and dismissed by the culture around her. It’s amazing that Red (Taylor’s Version) came to us at a time in 2021 when people were more sympathetic to Taylor as a whole and welcoming of the difficult and complex emotions on that record. But real ones know how and why it took a decade for the culture to catch up with the genius of Red. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Boy: "I like Travis now." Taylor: "Yes, me too. That's an absolute yes on that one." [everyone giggles] "Is he your favorite player?" Boy: "Yeah." Taylor: "Yeah?" Boy: "Either that or Patrick." Taylor: "Good, these are good answers. You are acing this."
