basic information that will translate across all verses both with and without supernatural influence, unless discussed otherwise:

madeline and her twin brother, roderick, were born to eliza usher and william longfellow. eliza was william’s secretary at fortunato. he never acknowledged them as his children. when the twins were 15, eliza strangled william, and died atop of him from heart failure.

madeline was able to blackmail convince william’s widow to provide for them monetarily so that they wouldn’t be sent to orphanages. she took care of their living expenses (only) until they were 18, then gave them a stipend, and washed her hands clean of them.

madeline is COO of fortunato (and roderick is CEO), but tech has her heart. she is a woman in stem! she has a bachelors in mathematics, and a masters in computer science. she’s also a super savvy business woman. gaslight gatekeep girlboss.

* they did not inherit fortunato, they clawed their way to the top. no one officially knows, but there are unaddressed rumors of their paternal lineage, and of the former ceo, rufus griswold, who disappeared the year madeline started working there. spoiler alert, she got him bricked and then bricked him up behind a wall.

fortunato is a big pharma company that is well known for inventing the controlled substance known as ligodone. it’s a painkiller, and is highly addictive if not used as prescribed.

she is a history buff, with a special interest in egyptian artifacts and mythology. she absolutely loves attending the openings of new exhibits, and funds various museums and research programs / grants. she collects artifacts and trinkets that probably shouldn’t be in her possession. she also enjoys the other fine arts: operas, theatre, ballet, etc.

madeline was diagnosed with autism in her 60s, meta to come.

important portrayal notes:

madeline is not a villain, she’s an antagonist, and they are not mutually exclusive terms. your muse can absolutely paint her as a villain in their story, but i prefer this be something preplotted if it runs deeper than hostile banter / playful competition.

madeline is a lesbian, but this is not something explicitly made known. her sexuality is undisclosed, and she has been spotted in public with both men and women. she has had relationships with men for personal gain, that doesn’t make her any less of a lesbian. i will at some point properly write out a meta on the evolution of her sexuality and relationships.

chronic softblocker, unless you’ve been hard blocked, don’t take it personal. i like my dash to be comfortable, and i don't want to feel collected. this branches into my next point: i don’t follow people first often. i understand tumblr is not usually the target demographic for my muse type - so if you’re here, i know you want to be. also i forget who has possibly softblocked me and i don’t want anyone thinking i’m refollowing on purpose.

friends will be unapologetically prioritized, but that doesn’t mean i’m not just as excited to write with everyone. additionally, i love pre established plots ! i am an architect, a world builder ! ideally this blog will be pushed in a “plot driven” direction, but baby steps.

          ⤷ that being said, i have developed a cut to the chase philosophy. i’m very direct about my desired plots and ideas to make things easy / keep things moving. please feel free to do the same with me! it is quite literally impossible to force a plot on me, if i do not like it, i will not write it - simple as that. communication is so important, i encourage you to use the word NO with me, because i will use it with you. i am a firm believer in “no, but-”, and figuring out an alternative / building off of an idea / or just scrapping it all together to come up with something new. roleplay is a collaboration - that being said, if i don’t feel any effort or interest from your end, i will softblock, nothing personal. i’m too exhausted to beat around the bush / let stage fright stop me from writing. this is a hobby i thoroughly enjoy, not an obligation or job.

if i write you something and you don't vibe with it, tell me! i am more than happy to alter it. i will also be doing the same if i believe something needs to be changed. this will also keep threads from getting dropped / ignored entirely if one of us feels something is keeping us from replying / enjoying the thread.

          ⤷ (un)shamefully a starter recycler. if i really like something i wrote, and we don’t plot around it / it doesn’t get responded to, chances are i’ll refluff it and use it for someone else at some point. this is not me rushing you, sometimes i am really proud of a piece of writing and would like for it to get used.

additional little deets:

95% of ic writing is queued, it keeps things from getting spammed and gives people time to regulate / not feel rushed by me because i tend to write in spurts. i pause the queue most weekends.

quality is more important to me than quantity. you do not have to match length, just as i will never force myself to do it.

the only oc madeline offspring that will ever be acknowledged on this blog were created by me and karma. i also will not automatically write with oc children of roderick.
