I love that there are so many different ways of referring to the entities, and how much the different names say about how various people view them. people associated with the beholding, with the magnus institute, seem to prefer names that are clear, short, precise, organized, but more symbolic – eye, dark, flesh, end. oliver banks refers to some of the fears as he and she. simon fairchild uses names – the fallen titan, the one alone, the watcher – that are distinctly anthropomorphic, more like descriptions of people. cultists who give them the names of gods, or of monsters – asag, mr. pitch. some people refer to them with names that are like descriptions of the feelings that they are: i do not know you, too close i cannot breathe, it is not what it is. it’s fucking fantastic and I love it
