I love that Trump keeps saying, "It's a free plane! Why would anyone refuse a free plane???"
There is no such thing as a free plane.
A plane is free in the same way a baby is free.
Like, the sex is free.
You don't technically have to pay for the actual baby.
But that is roughly where the free-ness ends.
The entire reason Qatar is trying to give away this plane is because they can't sell it. As is, it costs $35,000 per hour to operate. It takes more fuel. It requires a bigger flight crew. It is harder to maintain. Repairs are more expensive. It can't land at smaller airports. It needs a larger hanger to park in. Every aspect of operating this plane is exorbitantly expensive.
People love to praise Trump for donating his presidential salary every year.

Once delivered, there will not be a single second when this plane is free.
Even if all you do is park it inside the hangar and never fly it, this plane costs $3000 per day.
Which is roughly two presidential salaries.
So these Qatari folks are basically like, "Here is your free baby. Please remember to feed it and send it to college."

We gotta stop aiming for unique and interesting baby names we gotta start naming every single infant straight-shot middle-of-the-road ass popular common unisex names like Alex and Sam. By the end of 2031 I wanna see 100% of kindergarten children named either Alex or Sam and you know what, let’s make ‘em all Smiths and Johnsons, too. In an age of digital tracking give your baby the gift of total functional anonymity within the panopticon

One thing I really like about the environmental storytelling in E33 is that even the humble save point (or expedition flags) does it. Some areas only one expedition has made it to, some have multiple. Some only 33 made it to. Seeing which ones made it where tells you something about the world without saying a word.

Burn is an essential part of Clair Obscur's gameplay.
It's the only status effect innately featured in all characters' skill sets - some party members are able to inflict it (Maelle, Lune, Monoco), and others have skills benefitting from it (Sciel's Searing Bond, and Gustave/Verso's From Fire). Through the use of pictos, burn can even provide additional healing, as well as bonus to damage and critical chance.
Maelle's skillset especially heavily leans into making use of fire - it's the burning enemies that allow her to switch to Virtuose Stance and get a hold of its insane 200% damage bonus. In the late game, the Burning Canvas becomes one of her strongest skills, with the possibility of achieving the highest damage multiplier among all her non-gradient abilities (info from here).
Now, do you remember that it was fire that started it all?

All ebook DRM does, for the most part, is lock you into a store ecosystem. I don't think the publishers thought that's what was going to happen--the enablement of monopolies that ultimately control them--but it did. And to the benefit of no one, including the publishers themselves. They are now at the mercy of a monster they created, and everyone else gets bullshit like this.
Library lending might be the only legit use.
tell me my prof didn’t upload the reading by photocopying his kindle reader page by page

Watching the mummy 1999 for shits and giggles, thought it'd be fun to bitch abt the inaccurate hieroglyphs now that I know smth abt all that. Disappointed and disgusted to find out that they hired an egyptologist consultant and the hieroglyphs are actually well done. Night ruined

People straight up do not realize that part of the reason manufacturing is not returning to the United States in massive waves is because we have things like “OSHA” and “environmental laws” and “minimum wages.”
It’s not even just about fair wages. It’s literally about the fact that you can’t dump industrial waste in a river here anymore.
Our cheap goods are so cheap because South American and Asians environments are being destroyed so you can buy a $40 pair of shoes every 3 months.
Cutting granite countertops has lead to a rapid increase in silicosis in the lungs out in California. All the working men and women in my family have died from pulmonary fibrosis. They were carpet layers, Post office workers, floor tilers. Staying safe in manufacturing jobs is annoying but also very, very expensive. Real manufacturing factories belch smoke and dust and grime that causes asthma and birth defects in surrounding communities. Everyone wants their manufacturing jobs back until they realize their kids are living directly under the Asthma Plant.
There will come a time when the workers in these countries rise up and demand better and things will start to even out, but if you want to honestly “do your part,” you gotta stop buying cheap shit for no reason.
Not every event needs to be celebrate with a baseball cap or a coozie or a t shirt or a keychain. Not every wall in the house has to have a picture or a cute phrase on it. The knickknacks are killing people.
