“I can come out,” replied the tangled mess of a man, trying to untangle himself. The one in his mind was much worse, though. But he was glad Odette wasn’t nearby. She wouldn’t notice, and even then, they can say that they were talking. It wouldn’t be a lie.
Once he untangled himself, he found himself by her side in his bedroom. They both wished the other hadn’t found out this way, that was beyond obvious. Here, he placed a gentle hand on her arm. Even his voice was soft. He couldn’t imagine what was going on in her mind. “Do you wanna sit?” Everything else was up in the air, already known between them.
Marley watched Adam as he got up and left the bathroom before him, checking whether Odette was still on the swing outside through the bedroom window. When Adam placed his hand on her arm, she turned to look at him, looking up at him as usual. She felt embarrassed about how this had come up and she felt scared about how Adam would react now. But at least he didn’t seem angry. “Yes, sure. Yes, let’s sit down.” She walked over to Adam’s bed and sat down at the side that she would be sleeping in whenever she stayed over. Her bottom lip felt raw at how much she had chewed on it already and suddenly, the pattern of the floorboards was very interesting. She didn’t want to see her own worries in Adam’s eyes and least of all she wanted to see worse than that.

“He’s offering to be my familiar. Well —— not exactly. He’s offering someone to be cured fully of being a vampire, but he needs fangs and strength he said. So I’ll be giving that to him, he’ll be a vampire, he’ll be stuck as my familiar.”
Nelly chuckled. “Well, you do you. I’d rather stick to actual pets. Farless work, less annoying...” She sighed and tapped a wind chime gently, making the bells chime softly. “What are all those poor souls at your mercy even up to all the time? Does it ever tire you to keep track?”

The painting they were sitting in front of was interesting to say the least. Not quite as old as they were, but old enough to be considered antique to humans. Tilting his head sideways to look at it, Leifr wasn’t entirely sure the art had been hung the right way. “I’ve never been in here before, but it does seem like a cool place.” For being asleep so long, Leifr’s language and slang had caught up to the humans in this age. He didn’t want to seem as old as he was, and it took him a few years to get to this stage. Leifr stretched out his legs and put his hands behind his head to lean back in the chair more comfortably, “Is it? I tend to… dislike a lot of our kind. It’s like the older the vampires are, the less they care.” Leifr didn’t know much about Pokémon, so he just smiled at the comment and mentally noted the word for later.
“It is. I like it here.” June wasn’t sure whether she wanted the other vampire to agree with her and take a liking to her casual hang-out place. Company was nice once in a while, but she had enjoyed being the only regular here during the night. “Hm.” June neither wanted to agree nor disagree with him. Maybe she didn’t care that much herself. She was definitely putting a limit to the things she allowed herself to care about. Caring too much about too many people, concepts, things...The world was changing around her, too much had happened, too many had died for her to not get affected by it. But she was pretty sure she knew what Leifr was talking about. Some of their kind turned cold, turned off their humanity, or simply enjoyed being cruel and were careless with the lives around them. “Sounds like you do care even though you’re old?”

Ashamed of anything? What? Emeline couldn’t help but narrow her eyes when he spoke to her. Did he think she was struggling? “I — Ty, thank you, but I’m perfectly content with the way that I look,” she answered. “Where is this coming from?”
“As you should be.” An embarrassed little laugh escaped him. “It’s just, that your relationship with food seems a little...off?” Instead of waiting for a reply, he hurried to reassure her. “It’s not obvious at all. We’ve just been spending quite some time. I don’t think anyone would notice usually.” It was devastating that he was still trying to look for any signs of something being wrong. Whether he was missing something important that would end in a disaster again. Sometimes it was so damn obvious to himself that he was still blaming himself for everything that had happened. Maybe he hadn’t been ready to go leave his shell after all.

“She said she meant to make him hurt and suffer, but I believe she was just trying to curse him into a vampire. The old fashioned way. He ended up at some half-way, pathetic mutt version of a vampire. So we’re rejecting her for a bit. So she learns her lesson.”
Perfectly arched brows raised slowly. “Again, you’re no fun. We sure could have come up with something a little more creative. That’s letting her get away with it easy.” Nelly chuckled and looked over an array of pocket watches. Nothing new here. Not that she would have been particularly interested. “What did the mutt do to her anyway? Any plans for the fuck-up?”

It wasn’t the fact that Marley was pregnant that was sending him spiraling, it was what his mother said. How could she say such horrible things to his face? How could she possibly mean that? He knew his mother’s and his girlfriend’s relationship was rocky at best, but did she mean it? Or was she just scared of becoming a grandmother again? It was a natural part of life - he knew there couldn’t just be one pup in his future. No, he didn’t want to think about it, and he found comfort in the bathtub. Here, he could cool off before facing the world with a straight face. He knew he would need to, but no one would follow another into the bathroom, right? Oh wait, Marley did that anyway. At least it was mutual. But now wasn’t one of their late-night conversations about how a dog would wear pants if it could, it was about something that would change the rest of their lives.
When Marley opened the door, he wanted to fling himself up. She needed him, but she didn’t need him in this state. He wasn’t sure how to tell her that, though. He could never be mad at her, not really. All that came out was a breathy “Hey.” Then came an excellent question. “Where’s Odie?”
Marley looked at Adam through the half opened door as he was laying in the bathtub and furrowed her brows in confusion. “Wha-” She had been so entirely focused on a very different topic right now, that the question surely took her somewhat off guard. “Oh, she’s still outside. On the swing.” She looked from the bathroom back to the bedroom and then back at Adam, standing awkwardly in the doorway. “Um, Adam. I think we- Maybe we shoul-” She was clutching the test desperately, wrapping her arms around her chest. “Do you want to...talk in here?”

“Well, uneventful is a good thing, you know? Definitely makes for an easier time.” Emeline was exhausted, and past the point of wanting to pretend that the food didn’t taste like anything other than burnt. “Only if you want to, I can’t really say I’m in the mood for it. Eating after work is just so hard.”
“It sure is.” He chuckled at her first comment and frowned softly at her next. That was exactly what he had been thinking about over the last couple days. Maybe, yes, maybe he was just seeing ghosts and everything was alright, but it wasn’t uncommon for Emeline to ‘not be in the mood’ for food. Nor had he ever seen her excited about food, or commenting about being hungry and watching her eat simply gave him a weird feeling. He almost felt bad about it and he couldn’t really say why. He knew that it was probably none of his business, but he also wanted her to be happy and healthy and he’d definitely be there for her if- “You know, you can talk to me about anything, right?” Wow, way to go, Ty. What an exceptional way to begin a serious conversation. Didn’t he think about a million variations on how to start this just minutes ago? His sigh was heavy with uncertainty. “I just want you to know that I’m here for you and that you don’t have to be ashamed of anything. You are so beautiful the way you are, Em. You don’t have to worry about- You know. Weight. Looks. I wouldn’t care either way. I mean...” He was seriously searching for words that had been prepared days ago and were nowhere to be found when he needed them. He was almost certain he had made a fool of himself right now anyway. Ty could feel how his neck was starting to warm up.

“Then you have nothing to be skittish about. I apologize for startling you, I was only curious because I saw the guard leave.” Leifr wasn’t going to mention the fact that he had actually hoped to see someone else. They only just met and revealing too much in the beginning of a new acquaintanceship could be dangerous. “You let the guard live, that is good. Smart, but also potentially compassionate. Not a common trait among older vampires.” Feeling it might be less imposing, Leifr bowed slightly as he stepped around June to sit next to the spot she had just vacated. “Oh, and to answer your question, I am not sure. I’ve been asleep for awhile, so I don’t recall much yet. My name is Leifr.”
Of course. June was a bit annoyed about herself for being so careless. On the other hand, she’d done that a million and one times and nothing had ever happened. Something would always manage to catch someone’s attention. It was inevitable. June shrugged at his comment. She couldn’t be bothered with killing every human she met and cleaning up the mess afterwards. What a hassle. Additionally, killing random people wasn’t fun at all, actually. It was too much effort for no reason other that the act itself - which June didn’t especially enjoy. She watched him take a seat and was intrigued enough by his comment about having been asleep to consider sitting back down in her chair. One day, her curiosity would get the best of her, but having a conversation wouldn’t harm no one, right? “I like this place. And dealing with random dead people - annoying. I’d rather just tell them to fuck off.” Now she did actually sit back on the burgundy velvet. “Interesting to meet you, Leifr. Kind of always is, isn’t it? Considering, there’s a limited amount of us old folks to meet, naturally. Once you met them all, that’s it. Like Pokémon. Gotta collect them all...well, not really, but kind of.”

“Just a few stray animals coming in to try to trade. One actually offered his blood. You know, Rebecca managed to try to curse someone,” Bellamy scoffed. “And she mangled that curse so poorly. It’s an embarrassment to our coven.”
“Oh wow.” Nelly scoffed softly, running her finger over an embroidered lampshade. The texture was nice. She had walked past it about a dozen times before and still couldn’t decide whether she wanted the lap or not. “Anything worth taking on as a pet?” She chuckled at amusing herself. She wasn’t the one to take longer-term interest in any human. “What did she even manage to do to that poor soul? Any punishment in mind?”

Emeline couldn’t help but laugh lightly when he told her good morning. More like good night, seeing that her day was ending. “It was crazy as usual,” she replied, sitting down next to him. Her cheek pressed into his shoulder, as she let out an exhausted sigh. “I’m glad that’s it for my work week.”
With a chuckle, Ty layed his arm around her and pulled her close, placing a kiss on her hair. “Lucky you. I still got three more shifts for the week. Tonight was uneventful, though. Boring. Could have just stayed home, to be honest, but that wouldn’t pay bills.” He smiled at her softly, enjoying her presence. “You want to grab some breakfast before I walk you home? There’s still that one place I told you about we have to try. It’s just a five minute walk and it’s right on our way.”

It was strange to him that a bird sanctuary would carry art, but he wasn’t going to complain. Viewing the art would take some time and it seemed nice to study pieces alone. The original reason Leifr entered the building in the first place was because he spotted the night guard walking home. That simple act piqued his curiosity. Why would a night guard leave his post during his shift? Leifr was sure he knew, so he decided he would spend his time searching the building. It actually smelled like a rain forest in here, a scent he found calming and pleasant, so he slowed down to enjoy the walk.
Having only been here a week, he thought maybe he’d get lucky and see one of his siblings tonight. His dream was shattered when he spotted a different vampire and the disappointment was etched on his face. Almost immediately after he noticed them, their body language changed and seemed set them on high alert. Leifr walked forward, purposely making noise so as not to scare the other being, “I’ll stay peaceful as long as you are.”
June had gotten up in an instant and had spotted the man just as quickly. A stranger. June hadn’t seen him around town before. Not that she remembered seeing him anywhere else she had ever been before. Which would have been entirely possible, judging from the itchy feeling she got from his presence. It warned her that the vampire in front of her was considerably older than herself. A rare encounter. By now, June had either met many of the older vampires before or the vampires she met all seemed to be quite a bit younger than herself. She furrowed her brows at his words, watching him carefully. “In that case, we won’t have any trouble.” She took a step forward, away from the seating arrangement, ready to jump from the gallery to leave. “Have we met before? I’m June.”

Revelation | Adam & Marley
The autumn sun was still warm enough for the time that passed by to go unnoticed. Marley had managed to keep Odette’s interest with stories and information about the flowers and plants in the garden, about her own garden and the garden at her parent’s place. Naturally, Marley loved teaching Odette about the nature that surrounded them, but no child had endless patience and Marley sure wasn’t mad when Odette wanted to rather go on the swing for a while than to keep on listening and exploring. Marley had pushed her on the swing for a while even though it was evident that Odette was only tolerating her and didn’t actually need her to keep in motion. When Marley felt like she could use a glass of water, she had obviously asked Odette whether she would like to come inside with her, but when the child denied any need for refreshment, Marley had no bad feeling about leaving her to her own devices.
The bad feeling gripped her chest rather abruptly and unexpectedly, when she didn’t find Adam and his mother in the dining room, but instead found a treacherous little item laying on the table. Instantly, her heat started beating faster and she could feel all the color draining from her face. With a few quick steps, Marley was at the table and grabbed the test, calling out Adam’s name to see if he was around, so they could talk. She would have told him. She had planned on doing so this evening. Well, she had meant to tell him yesterday evening...and the day before. She was just so insecure about all of this herself. They hadn’t been together for long. He already had a child. Marley knew that his mother didn’t exactly like her and her own family definitely didn’t approve of this relationship. In no way had she wanted him to find out like this. Clutching the test to her chest, Marley hurried down the hallway towards the master bedroom, checking every room on her way. “Adam?” Her voice was shaky when she finally entered the master bedroom and looked around the room, searching for Adam. There was only one room left on this side of the house and Marley could already feel Adam’s presence in the bathroom as soon as she had entered the bedroom. Slowly, Marley opened the door and peered inside, ready to close the door again and leave Adam alone if he needed space. “Adam. Hey...I...” She really didn’t know what to say.

Emeline was always happy to see her new boyfriend after her shifts. While they both had no idea what either of them were, the woman felt she could be almost completely truthful with him. For the first time in decades, the blonde was starting to open back up to a relationship.
𝙸’𝚕𝚕 𝚋𝚎 𝚠𝚊𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚘𝚞𝚝𝚜𝚒𝚍𝚎. 𝚡
The blonde read the text, something that she really had to pick up after she started to go on dates with him. Sure, Jonas had tried to teach her through his years, but it struggled to click. As she usually didn’t reply, Emeline just placed her phone into her scrub pocket and walked out of the hospital. “Hey,” she said, smiling brightly when she saw him sitting on his usual bench.
Tyrell opened his eyes when he heard her voice, turning his head and spotting her immediately on her way from the entrance to his bench. With a smile, he slid to the side, making enough room for her to sit beside him. “Hey, beautiful. Good morning. How was your night?” He patted the space beside him, waiting for her to sit down.

“Doing good! Doing good!” Thomas said. “My job’s picking up, so I can’t complain. What about you? How are you doing?”
“That’s good to hear. I could stop by the museum some time and we could have some food in your lunch break, if you’re up for it.”
“I’m doing fine as well. Just got my hands on an 18th century manuscript I had my eyes on for a while now. It’s absolutely wrecked, but I’m positive I can salvage it. Had it delivered here from an auction. Came to pick it up, actually.”

A small smile tugged on her lips at the comment, before it quickly died again. “Are you going to buy anything?” she said in response.
“Awww, you’re no fun.” Nelly laughed and started strolling through the store again. “Yes? I was planning to, at least. You got anything I haven’t seen yet, or anything interesting for me?”

Tyrell should have been home by 5, but looking at soft lilac sky that was slowly tinted pink and golden by the rising sun, he realized once more that he didn’t mind working overtime lately. Well, that was true for the night shift at least and he was well aware of the reason for his surprisingly good mood in the early morning hours. His current employer was situated about a ten minute walk from Old Ashton’s hospital and Ty would be exactly on time for the end of the shift of his girlfriend. Quickly, he sent her a short text ‘I’ll be waiting outside. x’ to let her know she could expect him on one of the benches outside the main entrance with a view over the small park of the hospital. He would actually be waiting for her, even if she would end up having to work overtime as well.
He took a seat in his usual spot, enjoying the first rays of sunshine of the day on his face, closing his eyes with a sigh. He felt so calm and at ease, he didn’t wanted his worries to intrude on these relaxed moments of serenity. He couldn’t stop them from clouding up the back of his mind though. There was one pressing thought in particular, that he needed to talk about with Emeline. He had meant to for a few days now after he had finally come to a conclusion, but he wasn’t sure how to start the conversation...

Location: Angel Wings Gardens and Bird Sanctuary
The night was dark and full of terrors. June chuckled and enjoyed listening to the sound of her heels on the flagstone paths that lead through the bird sanctuary. She had compelled the guard to let her inside, return to his home and to remember the night as an uneventful ordinary shift. June knew that the middle-aged guy was living alone and that noone would be asking questions. Not that she was worried about getting in trouble. She just always tried to get the least consequences for anyone involved in her line of action while still getting her exactly where and what she wanted.
After making her rounds through the sanctuary, checking if there were and newcomers or whether there were any of her favourite birds missing, June stopped back at the entrance hall. She enjoyed the art that was displayed in the main building immensely, finding herself planning to steal some works from the exhibition before there would be new ones put up, or before she would move away from Old Asthon once more. She had a rather well stocked private exhibition of sorts in one of her places in Italy. Somehow, she had never manages to stop collecting all sort of things. Buying new homes for her collections rather than for herself. She took a seat in one of the celcet chairs in the first floor gallery, just across from one of her favourites and got lost in the art in front of her, letting her thoughts wander. She would probably end up strolling through the botanical garden at dawn again. Maybe this time, she could gather some stuff for Marley. Even if it was almost winter, Marley would very likely manage to revive anything June would bring- June furrowed her brows, pricking up her ears and listening intently to the sounds of the sanctuary. Something was off...she could feel it.
