Roux Louka from Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ
Costume made and worn by me. Photo taken by mizfitpeep on IG at Anime NebrasKon 2023.
Roux is a character who I had thought about cosplaying for quite a while, and I even bought the wig a couple of years before I ended up doing it. In 2023, I wanted a costume that I could comfortably wear while driving home from a con, and Roux ended up being perfect for that. Until then, Gundam was probably my favorite long-running anime franchise that I had never cosplayed, so it was cool to finally cover it.
This was a very simple costume that didn't take long for me to construct. I bought the unitard and wore it unaltered aside from sewing a snap to the shoulder to hold up the sash. The rest I made using leftover materials from other projects. The wig is an Arda Venus in Ice Violet that didn't require much styling outside of cutting the bangs. I bought and wore earrings, though they were usually obscured by the hair.

Chii from Chobits
Costume made and worn by me. Photo taken by mizfitpeep on IG at Anime NebrasKon 2023.
This costume didn't come about because I wanted to cosplay Chobits specifically, but because I was in the mood to make a frilly dress with big sleeves. I did some research to find characters who wear that sort of outfit, though I ultimately settled on this Chii design, Maid Alice. I hadn't thought about Chobits in a long time, but it was just what I was looking for, so I decided to make it. The original artbook illustration shows Chii from behind, but there is also a figure of this outfit, which gave me a reference for the front.
I used polyester poplin fabric for the dress and bows with some cord sewn on for the piping. The ruffle trim came off of a premade spool. There are three layers to the skirt, each with ruffle at the hem: the pink top skirt and two white ones underneath, the lower of which is a half-skirt in back. The shoulders have foam pads inside to keep them poofy, and the dress snaps to the collar to keep the sleeves from sliding down. The apron is interfaced for stiffness, and the bow tails have a layer of felt for thickness. The buttons are glass beads that I painted and glued on. I already owned the heels, and I bought the petticoat and stockings as they are.
The wig is an Epic Cosplay Nyx in Natural Blonde with additional wefts. I'm happy with my styling on this wig. There are two polystyrene balls in the front to give the hair its rounded shape going into the two hair ties, which I made using white foam and pink pleather. I bought the ears second-hand, so I'm unsure of who manufactured them. I found the way that the ears distorted my hearing very disorienting, which made wearing the costume less comfortable than it would have been otherwise.

Karin Asaka from Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club
Costume made and worn by me. Photo taken by mizfitpeep on IG at Naka-Kon 2023.
Though I enjoyed the first two Love Live anime series, they didn't leave much of a lasting impression on me. So I was pleasantly surprised when the Nijigasaki series turned out to be a show that I really liked. Despite cosplaying a lot of idol characters over the years, I had never cosplayed Love Live before, and it seemed like a good opportunity to correct that. Though I liked several of the idols, I ultimately gravitated to Karin, in part because I had an existing fondness for her VA, Miyu Kubota (Sophy from PriPara, who I've cosplayed previously, is one of my all-time favorite animated characters).
I don't have much to say about the construction of this costume. The most challenging part to get right was the shoulder ruffle, which needed a lot of interfacing to keep its shape. Aside from that, most of the parts of the costume were pretty familiar to me. For example, the shorts were easy to pattern because I had just made Pyra a year earlier.
All of the cyan parts are iron-on vinyl. The dark blue and white parts are two different scuba fabrics. The black on the arms is poly spandex, and the other black parts are faux leather. The stockings are a pair of tights with the top part cut off. The silver belt buckles I made from foam with metallic paint. Lastly, the wig is an Arda Magnum Long in Dark Purple.

Irida/Kai from Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Costume made and worn by me. Photo taken by mizfitpeep on IG at Naka-Kon 2023.
I made costumes from both Pokémon X and Y and Pokémon Sun and Moon when those games were new, but I skipped out on cosplaying Sword and Shield (and then later Scarlet and Violet). I thought that I might be done cosplaying Pokémon, but Legends: Arceus had characters and a story that I really enjoyed. I got especially attached to Irida, and so it was an easy decision to cosplay her.
I used nylon spandex as the main material for most of the clothes and for the tops and sides of the sandals. The shorts I purchased but tailored myself. The bag and the obi cord are made of cotton. It was certainly not the ideal choice for the cord, but it was fabric that I already owned, and it needed to match the bag. Inside the bag is a big tube that I made out of foam. The obi, cord, bag, and tails all connect in the back with snaps. It's a decent amount of weight and tension concentrated around my lower back, but the rest of the costume is so comfortable that it's not a problem.
I made the bangles, the anklet, and the necklace basically as pillows. They are made from vinyl, sewn together, and stuffed with fiberfill. I painted the designs on them with fabric paint. The pearls are tennis balls that I painted and glued into holes that I left in the vinyl. There is one pearl in each bangle and one in the necklace, and there is also one half-pearl on the back of each sandal.
I had two props for this costume. My Celestica Flute is simply a piece of pvc pipe that I cut to length, cut a hole in the side of, and painted to make matte. My Glaceon is an official plush from Pokémon Center.
The base wig that I used is an Arda Lulu in Ash Blonde. I made the bangs and sides using wefts in Ash Blonde for the darker parts and Titanium Blonde for the lighter parts. Styling the wig was by far the most challenging part of the costume, and I'm proud of the work that I put into it. The tiara on top I simply cut out of foam, painted, and then glued to the wig.

It went by too fast, but I had a really great weekend at Anime Nebraskon 2023!
On Friday, I was Chii from Chobits! Specifically, I made her "Maid Alice" outfit. I hadn't worn anything this cute and frilly in a long time!
On Saturday, I wore Pyra! This was the most challenging costume that I've ever made, and I was happy to have the opportunity to show it off again. I had an amazing time that day, and I'm incredibly grateful for the kind reception that I got! I think it was genuinely the most fun that I've had while cosplaying in years.
I finished out the weekend cosplaying Roux from Gundam ZZ! While maybe not the flashiest costume, she's a character who I've wanted to cosplay forever, and it was nice to have something comfortable to wear on Sunday.

I'm back from Naka-Kon! It was a getaway that I desperately needed, and I had a blast.
I got to wear both of the new costumes that I've been working on, starting with Karin on Friday! I felt very confident in this outfit and got what I think are some great photos as her.
Saturday morning I wore Irida. I like this character a lot, and I was delighted that so many people at the con told me that they do too!
Finally, Saturday night I was Magical Emi! I was really happy to finally wear this one for a second time almost four years later, though I did have to remake her top since my original one no longer fits.

Another project that I've been working on is Karin from Nijigasaki High School Idol Club! I've never cosplayed Love Live before because I was always more interested in other idol characters. The Nijigasaki anime is a favorite of mine, though, so I just had to make a costume from it.

I've been working on Irida/Kai from Pokémon Legends: Arceus! I haven't started on the wig yet, but nearly everything else is done. I think this is going to be a fun one to wear!

Sheryl Nome from Macross Frontier: The Wings of Farewell
Costume made and worn by me. Photo taken by mizfitpeep on IG at Anime NebrasKon 2022.
Making a wedding dress has been on my to-do list for as long as I've been making costumes, but I was never able to find one that I felt strongly enough about. I finally decided to do this one in 2022 after rewatching the Macross Frontier movies.
The dress consists of a bodice attached to two skirts, the inner pink one and the sheer one. The third, largest skirt is a separate piece that rests on top and snaps together in front where the pink roses and leaf are attached. The main white fabric is bridal satin, the pink fabric used for the innermost skirt and the bows is peau de soie, and the sheer skirt and veil are chiffon. The pink detail on the outermost skirt is heat transfer vinyl that I cut and ironed on by hand. I made the crown from some foam, sewed the veil to the inside of it, and glued two clips to the bottom of it for attaching it to the wig. I modified the boots by painting the heels and creating the straps and back bows. I made the bouquet myself using the same artificial roses that I used on the front of the skirt.
As for the other accessories, I bought the gloves, corsage, necklace, and hairclip and used them unmodified. My earring was made by LooksLikeStudio, and my wig is an Arda Nina Silky in Pickled Ginger to which I did only minimal styling.

Princess Mercury from Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon
Costume made and worn by me. Photo taken by mizfitpeep on IG.
Sailor Mercury is one of my favorite characters ever and one of the characters who I've cosplayed the most. After a break from working on cosplay after making Pyra, I decided that it would be fun to throw together Mercury's princess dress. It always makes me happy to do a new version of an old favorite character, and this design had just appeared about a year earlier in the Sailor Moon Eternal movie.
This dress is a little bit slapdash since I only made it for a photoshoot and not to wear at cons. For fabric, I used bridal satin for everything except for the sheer part in the back which is voile. The gold designs on the straps are made from vinyl. The big bow on the back of the choker has wire in to give it its shape. I bought and used the necklace as-is, and didn't buy new shoes. The wig is an Arda Inigo in Midnight Blue that I've used for cosplaying Ami since 2020.
