Writing advice that you randomly internalize because you trusted the person giving it needs to be nuked.

I was told by a YouTuber that i had been watching for some time and deeply trusted, that the mark of a good writer is one able to tell a story in chronological order and make it good because that’s apparently harder than a story told out of order and, not only do I think it’s the exact opposite, a narrative in general is hard but one out of order??? That’s another level of headache thank you. Back to my point, for YEARS I have avoided telling stories that way because a YouTuber told me to and I just- I’m mourning time wasted believing that.

So let me tell it to you straight, and if you never remember any other advice ever. The only rule in writing is consistency and detail, everything else can be attributed to personal preference. You have all the resources to make something amazing, your mind. Spend time thinking about it, learn what you like, observe storytelling tricks that speak to you.

Take advice from others, but not if you don’t like it.
