HEROIC INTERVENTION. ( A PROMPT LIST! )

so i was writing this headcanon for one of my characters, and it got me thinking about how some characters are absolutely, to their very core, protectors, and even then they still need protecting! so i made this list which is similar to about five other memes i've made. feel free to add a "reverse" if you so wish! DO NOT ADD TO THIS LIST NOR CLAIM IT AS YOUR OWN. THANK YOU.

FROM THE SENDER TO THE THREAT:

[ TO THE THREAT ]: " is there a problem over here? "

[ TO THE THREAT ]: " can i help you with something? "

[ TO THE THREAT ]: " i think it's time you were leaving. "

[ TO THE THREAT ]: " why don't you and i go outside for a sec? "

[ TO THE THREAT ]: " you wanna tell me why you're hassling my friend? "

[ TO THE THREAT ]: " you better start running before i really get pissed. "

[ TO THE THREAT ]: " i'm sure there's a rational explanation behind you upsetting this person? "

[ TO THE THREAT ]: " i hope you're not thinking of staying here a moment longer. "

[ TO THE THREAT ]: " right, either you leave or i kick you out. your choice. "

[ TO THE THREAT ]: " i think it's fairly obvious my friend doesn't want anything to do with you, don't you? "

[ TO THE THREAT ]: " don't even think of pretending you didn't hear me the first time: leave! "

[ TO THE RECEIVER ]: " hey, are you okay? "

[ TO THE RECEIVER ]: " don't worry. i'll take care of this. "

[ TO THE RECEIVER ]: " why don't you go on out back? i got this, it's okay. "

[ TO THE RECEIVER ]: " here. you go on into the car, alright? i'm right behind you. "

[ TO THE RECEIVER ]: " is this person bothering you? "

[ TO THE RECEIVER ]: " it's okay. hey, hey… look at me. they're gone. "

[ TO THE RECEIVER ]: " hey… what's going on? what's wrong? i… has this person said something to you? "

[ TO THE RECEIVER ]: " it's alright. the others just went out to the car; why don't you join them? i'll handle this. "

[ TO THE RECEIVER ]: " hey, hey… talk to me, huh? what's the matter? you look like you've seen a ghost… who was that? "

[ TO THE RECEIVER ]: " don't be scared. i'm going to take care of this. i promise. "

[ TO THE RECEIVER ]: " you don't need to say anything. just nod if you want me to kick them out, okay? "

[ TO THE RECEIVER ]: " you're alright. i'm right here, don't worry. and they'll be gone before you can blink, that's another promise. "

ACTIONS:

[ HAND ]: sender, having seen the receiver's encounter with the threat, gently takes the receiver's hand to assure them they aren't alone.

[ INTERVENE ]: sender wordlessly steps in between the receiver and the threat, facing the threat while shielding the receiver from them.

[ BLOCK ]: sender steps in between the receiver and the threat, this time facing the receiver while turning their back to the threat and blocking them from the receiver's line of sight.

[ BACK ]: sender places a protective and gentle hand on the receiver's back, preparing to guide them away from the threat.

[ DOOR ]: sender firmly but politely insists that the threat leave the building, and escorts them out of the door.

[ EXIT ]: sender physically catches hold of the threat and drags them away from the receiver, and outside of the building.

[ PUSH ]: sender places a careful hand on the threat to keep them at arm's length, and steps forward again to give the receiver more space between them and the threat.

[ SHOVE ]: sender runs over and forcefully shoves the threat back and away from the receiver.

[ SPACE ]: sender pushes between the receiver and the threat and begins to move forward, invading the threat's personal space as both a means of intimidation and a way of getting them away from the receiver.

[ DIVERT ]: sender arrives behind the threat and gains their attention, distracting them from the receiver so as to give them time to leave the area.

[ CLEAR ]: the sender firmly and clearly tells the threat that they are no longer allowed in the premises nor anywhere near the receiver.

[ ARM ]: sender wraps a protective arm around the receiver and guides them away from the threat and out of the premises.

[ PUNCH ]: the sender, having seen the receiver's reaction to the threat and the threat's lack of consideration, moves forward and punches the threat in the face.

listen. i know it's not canon accurate for the time but i desperately need almost exes dickbabs during early jaybin era purely so he can look at batgirl and say, fully serious in a way thats almost funny on a 12 year old, "you can do better." while they watch nightwing do something stupid/reckless or make an ass of himself.

there's a panel ive seen where bruce is talking about jason to cass (? i think) and tells her that jason liked cars and girls or something to that effect and i can't stop thinking about that in context with my jason. who does in fact not like girls and never made any moves to indicate that he did. there's room for slightly funny misunderstandings and a massive argument between him and bruce and i like that.

starting with a couple earth 2 jason thoughts (general ones and then more specific ones relevant to what i mentioned yesterday)

long ass post below 😔

my interp follows a lot of the same canon, just a little different in some places. he still meets batman when he's trying to steal the wheels off the batmobile and he's adopted when he's twelve. he does become robin (finally decided this officially after flipflopping on it!) but it's not until a year after he's adopted, so he's thirteen when he becomes robin. he's the third robin on earth 2, not the second; he's given the mantle after helena stops being robin (this aligns with sans' canon for helena wayne! like the reason for why she stopped being robin n stuff). in my heart there's a moment like i've written for main earth jay where helena officially passes robin to him, like dick did with jason on the main earth, but that's a vibe id need to confirm w sans if it's chill! the extra year he gets to train is actually really useful. when he finally goes out for the first time he's more prepared and he's secure in his place in the family; unlike main earth jason, he was a part of the family before he was robin so there's not as much insecurity and pressure there where he worries about his place there if he's not robin. it does mean his time as robin is shorter than it normally is, because he does still end up in that warehouse with the joker when he's fifteen. he doesn't die though, not entirely, but its close. someone gets to him in time and gets him the medical help he needs. his heart does stop twice while doctors are working on him to save his life and there's points – even after he's out of surgery – where it's not clear if he's gonna make it. but he does! and he gets better! it's lots of physical therapy and counseling but he gets better! his life won't ever be the same again but. at least he's alive. at some point during his healing process he tells his family (and i think he talks about it with helena first since she was robin before him) that he doesn't want to be robin anymore. whether or not he'd become robin again had been this nebulous thing where it wasn't clear if he'd want to, if bruce would let him, or if he'd even be able to, so his choice finally answers all of that. he gets to graduate high school! and he goes to college! he's like a couple months out of law school once things go down on earth 2 and he's working at the same law firm as his siblings, though he hasn't worked many cases by himself since he's still learning and he's not ready to do it all by himself. i think he's maybe around twenty-two or twenty-three (i will elaborate more on how he's so young and already out of school later). then this is something i've gone back and forth on but i've decided i simply enjoy red hood jason too much and itd be too funny to cut it out entirely. so he does still take up the name red hood and take over a good portion of the gotham underworld but his introduction isn't quite as bloody as it is on the main earth. nor is he quite as antagonistic with other vigilantes/whatever bats are around since he doesn't have the same anger as main earth jason, thats not to say he ISNT angry. he is. but it's different, he's not angry about dying or not being saved, that doesn't factor in at all because those things didn't happen to him. he is angry that the joker is still alive and still able to break out of arkham whenever he wants. he's angry that he hasn't been avenged but it's more like the anger is masking the fear because his monster is still alive and can still get to him. so under the red hood plays out differently. i haven't figured out every detail but i know that much. and he absolutely does not tell ANYONE that he's red hood (obviously). he worries about them finding out because of the way he handles things, he knows that his methods are not always... acceptable. but he's doing what needs to be done. i have more ideas about this but i wanna move one lmao

now onto the more specific earth 2 jason thoughts that will eventually connect to main jason thoughts

the damage done to him in the warehouse left him with a multitude of problems that became his new normal. he deals with chronic pain, some vision problems (mostly light sensitivity and occasionally blurry vision), and asymmetrical hearing loss (one side it's more mild loss, the other is moderate). it's definitely an adjustment and the most difficult part is the hearing loss! since it's not severe, he can still hear he just struggles with certain sounds/voices/words and it's worse on one side than it is the other. at first he tries to hide that he's struggling and he gets by kinda faking it and lipreading as he can but eventually he gets found out and finds out he needs hearing aids which he hesitantly agrees to. he's nervous about wearing them and he doesn't do it regularly at first so it's an adjustment for everyone because obviously they want to continue communicating with him n stuff and they want it to be as easy as possible so. they adapt. this is where it begins to tie into main earth jason! in my interp, he also has chronic pain + vision problems + hearing loss like his earth 2 counterpart, the only difference is he is not saying SHIT about that. that's HIS business and he's not about to admit to having a problem like that. so he's taken the fake it til you make it thing that earth 2 jason tried and going above and beyond with it. thankfully he's distant enough from his family and other people to get by without anyone noticing anything (and if they do it's usually something they can just brush off like it's nothing). he primarily relies on lipreading, guesswork, and sometimes just acting like he's ignoring what he was told because he simply isn't sure what all was said. it works for him and fits what people assume about him.

now for my thoughts about him and helena wayne interacting

if/when they start interacting, it would be interesting to me if helena just kinda unconsciously kept up doing things she used to do for her jason to make sure he could understand her (but obviously! doesnt have to be a thing this is just a vibe). for instance, making sure there's nothing covering her mouth (so he can read her lips AND so she's not muffled at all), speaking clearly and a little louder than she usually would (not yelling or obnoxiously loud, but loud enough it's not as hard for him to make out what she's saying), and like standing on the side that he can hear better on if they're beside each other. it confuses the FUCK out of jason once he catches on. like it's nice but?? confusing. because how does she know? because she has to know, that's the only explanation he can figure out for why she might be doing any of it. i think it would be a while before he brought it up with her, if he ever did. idk it would just be interesting to me if she knew things about jason and did stuff like that for him because it's the same as with her jason. like its different, they're not the same person, not really, but he's still jason. he still likes the same things, he still struggles with some of the same things, he's still – in his core – the same as the kid she would've known. just i dunno, knowing someone without really knowing them and interacting with someone who has the same face as a person you loved and lost. oh my godddd he'd be a ghost to her too. because earth 2 jason is presumably dead, or if he is alive, she isn't able to see him again so he might as well be. she's another person who'd look at him and see a ghost! he's got the same face as her little brother but he isn't him, he's different. he's angrier, he's younger, he's alive. he's a ghost twice over with her (even if she doesn't think of him that way or whatever) because he's a ghost in his daily life after dying and coming back and he looks like the ghost of a boy he isn't when he's with her :(

for a moment, as he watched his brother, he felt sixteen again—talia's hand on his forearm guiding him into a room he doesn't recognize (for whatever that is worth in those days, when memory and recognition slipped through his fingers like sand) and telling him that the little boy in front of him is his brother and she is trusting him (the boy they call a curse unleashed upon the world) to protect her son. damian hadn't needed him then, not really, he was already league trained and fearsome when jason was little more than a hollow shell filled with rage and lazarus waters operating on muscle memory; but he understands now, years after the fact, that the assignment was more about giving him a purpose than it had been about him actually protecting damian. whether necessary or not, he'd latched onto his role with both hands and even now, when there are others more suited for things like this, others who damian should rely on more than him, he finds himself falling into it like second nature. "of course you can," he feels like he's treading unknown ground, searching for the right words to say when this is so far out of his depth. "and i'll give you one, you just have to tell me what's goin' on, dami, so i can try to fix it." later, he'll ask why it was him and here that damian chose. why him and not someone more qualified, someone more capable of fixing things like this. he's not dick grayson. he can't be him, can't be someone that damian actually needs—he never has been. so, why is his little brother here then? why him? but questions can wait for now. there are more important things for him to handle. "c'mere," his voice takes on a softer quality (it so often does with his siblings, as much as he hates it) and he's holding open his arms for his brother, waiting for him to make the first move.

there are parts of damian, parts of him that he shoved deep down the moment he got to gotham and has tried so desperately hard to not think about since then, just really wants to go home. not home to wayne manor, because for all the time he's spent in his father's house since he was ten years old, gotham will never really be his home - he wants to go home to eth alth'eban, home to saudi arabia, just home. his brother doesn't have that problem, doesn't have some sort of intense longing for a place he'll never go again (and he will never go again, because what would be the point? everything damian ever learned from the league clashes so heavily with everything he's ever learned from batman) but damian's fairly sure that jason would understand all the same. who else could, really? to be honest, he's not all that sure how he got here. he knows that he'd walked from the manor all the way to jason's apartment, but beyond that, it's mostly just a blur. it's late, probably too late, considering how disheveled jason looks right now, but it's also a little too late for that. " can i not just want a hug, todd? " he asks instead of giving a proper answer. one of very things he'd ever learned under his mother was that weakness was fatal, weakness was the thing that put you in a lazarus pit until you could no longer survive without it (grandfather was weak, he knew she was telling him, even if neither talia or damian would never say so outloud). one of the very first things he'd learned under batman was that weakness wasn't weakness at all. damian preferred his mother's point of view. he rocked back on his heels, hands shoved into the pockets of his jacket. " if you're not going to give me one, i'll just go back to the manor and we can forget this ever happened. "

despite their initial closeness, things were different with damian once they were both in gotham, away from the league and all that entailed; their roles had changed, jason’s most significantly. no longer was he damian’s sole brother or protector — he was just one of many. the change in dynamic didn’t kill the instinct. even in the early days of the new robin, jason found himself watching (not acting, not approaching, that wasn’t allowed). even on that first day – the first time damian went out officially, the first time jason saw his youngest brother in robin’s colors – when all he had wanted to do was land beside them and scream at dick for even letting this happen. tim had been bad enough, but he couldn’t exactly protest that, he’d been a bit preoccupied during the bulk of third robin’s career. needless to say he might be a little protective of his youngest brother, even if he isn’t about to show that. or admit it to anyone. the most telling thing that he has done is extend an open invitation to him, telling him that if he ever needed anything all he had to do was ask and jason would make it happen if he could. granted, when he’d made the offer this wasn’t quite what he expected. but here they were. in his entryway — jason looking down at his little brother, still half asleep and lax, his brain not quite powered on enough to process everything, and damian asking for a hug. stifling a yawn, he nods and rubs the sleep from his eyes, “’m not sayin’ no, but is there any reason you want one now? when it’s–” realizes he’s not sure what time it actually is since his whole day has been off and he doesn’t remember actually falling asleep either. so, he’s gonna take a shot in the dark and say, “this late?”

first of all, who gave her the right to attack him in his own apartment. this is supposed to be his sanctuary—he did not want to deal with more post patrol bat bullshit now that he was home, in his space, all of that could wait until he'd gotten a chance to change and catch some sleep. maybe also treat his injuries, that should probably be at the top of the list now that he thinks about it. elects to ignore them long enough to drop his jacket on a chair, set his helmet on the cheap coffee table that he probably should throw out, and sit down himself because standing sounds like a chore the longer he does it. “okay and?” he honestly doesn’t see whatever problem they’re referring to. “we’ve all got a death wish, haze, so why bother me about it specifically?” since he’s died before it’s not something that necessarily scares him as bad as it used to. (no these days he’s more scared about coming back again.) “why don’t you go bother your dad or something, god knows that asshole has a shitload of problems more interestin’ for you to get into. so…” gestures to the window, “go away.”
