happy 303 day!
this week i learned that if you x*y ringmod a distorted 303 with a whole lot of frogs, it sounds like a very aggressive duck

when it’s time to make a new 303 pattern
and i have to decide which one to write over
going through all the patterns on my 303
i have to delete one
i’m sentimentally attached to all of them

i just realized that the “name your price” feature on bandcamp is an excellent way to give lots of money directly to ukrainians
(edit: almost directly; bandcamp gets a 15% share and pays the artists daily)
step 1: find a fun song on bandcamp by a ukrainian!
step 2: add to cart!
step 3: name your own price!
here are some ukrainians i like:

A new AECK release will be available on the 21st~! Accumulated is a collection of acid & electro braindance flow from the heart to help keep you pushing forward & reflecting here in 2022. 17 tracks of globally proven cuts, rarities from the vaults, & never before available synthesizer experiments.
I am proud of the tracks on this project, some of them have already done a lot of good throughout the world on various compilations for friends & charity. Glad to have this focused collection available for you all soon so spread the word!

i thought it would sound interesting, and would probably sound good too
i thought it would be easier for me to play than the keyboard
I HAD NO IDEA IT WOULD SOUND THIS GOOD
LIKE EVERY STAR AND EVERY POINT IN THE COSMOS ALL AT ONCE RADIATING ENDLESS LOVE AND PEACE AND PATIENCE AND KINDNESS AND GOODNESS AND GENTLENESS
let’s not forget self-control WATCH IT WITH THE CAPS LOCK! WOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
sounds like divine love!
there aren’t even very many notes in the scale. the chords just kind of make themselves!
i absolutely melted over this
i’ve found a new way to make music! and i can make beautiful things now!
i feel ecstatic
arbitrary tunings!

tonight i did something i’ve been meaning to do for a long time.
this is a little piece of music i made in an arbitrary tuning. none of the notes you hear have anything to do with the frequencies normally found in music, except that i chose one (440 Hz) as the starting point. the intervals in the scale are of my own choosing and follow a piecewise linear pattern (linear within each octave, but the overall trend is exponential, like in regular music).
i had used MATLAB to generate some scales and stuff in this manner, and liked what i heard, but i never made anything with it. these days, i am finally beginning to spend long hours in the studio again. i think my creative power is starting to return. i have ideas ready to come to life, that i’ve been waiting on for months and years!
strangely, as i started making the melody, i found that my mind had instantly adapted to the new tuning. the notes i heard as i played were exactly what i expected, even though they were completely novel, and i could work with them fluently without practice. this is quite different from my perpetual frustrated whacking at the piano keyboard when i want to make a melody on regular instruments.
this is my first step toward tonal freedom!

screw the rack rails in first
screw in some equipment and use it to hold the enclosure level before you screw the back braces together
then tie something to a piece of string, for a plumb line
this one is a homemade 27-space rack, to hold all my rack synths and fx!
you can do it~~~~~
all you need is plywood and rack rails and screws and a drill
and confidence ::{}

apparently, when you’re building a rack enclosure half the height of the room, the matter of having it stand up straight becomes nontrivial
