thomas had been looking forward to the day that his child was finally born, and now that he held their child in his arms he couldn't be prouder. " i cannot believe how beautiful our child is" he chuckled. he himself was scarred from the battles he had fought in and he didn't think he'd ever find someone that he would care about as much as he did this little bundle of joy. finally looking up at the woman, he leaned in to kiss her forehead. " are you okay? you did amazing"

edgard was the earl of one of the larger settlements in the north. many people believed he would be voted as the next king of their people, but for now earl would do. he already had himself two wives, but as was sometimes the custom in their culture, edgard was thinking about taking a third. after all , the more sons his wives could give him, the stronger his name would be. whilst his people were being entertained in the great hall, edgard leaned in towards the woman he had been talking to all night. " i want you to spend the night with me, what do you think?" he asked, his hand moving to rest upon her leg.

" well no, i don't suppose you would sleep with another, but when you say those words you cannot expect me to be... well okay with it" stephen sighed, as he looked at her , his eyes searching hers before he leaned in to kiss her again, passionately as his lips moved against hers and he squeezed her body into his. " it sounds like a good plan, but what if something goes wrong, what if he does put his hands on you?" stephen wasn't usually the jealous type, but the thought of someone else with her was enough to drive him crazy. " you are mine, and i am yours, i wouldn't say it if it wasn't true" stephen confessed before he finally pulled away, knowing that anyone else could join them at any point. " i trust you, but if he does do anything then i will kill him, and make it look like a poor accident"

Aubree's breath hitched in her throat at his words. "You love me?" Those were not ever words that she thought she'd hear from him. "I love you Stephen." She uttered back to him. Making the declaration she never thought that she would. But she saw the look in his eyes and she laughed softly. "oh men, you really think I will be spreading my legs for another? I could very easily take him for drinks slip a little herb in his drink and spend the night. Make him think when he wakes up to me in the morning we've done the deed." She shook her head and then raised her brow knowing not to cross this man but his determination to keep her all to himself was attractive. "Only while I am with your child? Or always?" Aubree leaned up and kissed him gently. "Relax my prince, I am not the type to spread my legs often." Or did he forget the little chase she put him through before she finally did let him underneath her dress, and how glad she did.

when she said about letting her go, stephen shook his head. " i can't let you go, how am i supposed to let the woman i love go?" he asked her, finally confessing the feelings that had been engulfing him for the past few months. she had awoken him to the life he wanted, the life he craved. stephen was about to kiss her, but her next words caused his blood to boil. the sheer thought of her with someone else was enough to make him want to start a war of his own. " just so you know, whatever boy you choose will be the first man i hang as king" stephen told her, not as a threat, but as a fact. " they will believe what you tell them, you're with child now, my child and you will not be spreading your legs for anyone else whilst you're with my child, a future king or queen"

"Then I hope your heir is a boy." A king to have another king, maybe it would be more palatable to the masses if she were to have a boy. "I know that it is the most I could wish for. I have no standing that would allow me to be more. Just if you ever were to marry and have a queen you let me go. I do not wish to deal with the harshness of another woman, one that can have my head on a pike if she so chooses as well." Aubree wanted to protect herself, maybe this was all foolish desires her heart couldn't stop itself from the heartbreak it should surely feel later in life falling in love with a prince like she was. "Make sure it stays near your quarters so you can have me when you wish." She smiled softly at him and then nodded. "I suppose I should go sleep with a stable boy then to at least make it plauseable that it is someone elses." She wasn't sure if those words would rile him up or not, but no one would believe that she slept with a stable boy without one or two who she knew would boast about the fact.

there were to be few blushes if people found out he had been sleeping with a maid , it went on throughout the castle, in fact stephen knew his own father probably had many mistresses on the side. however, if anyone found out that one was carrying his child then that would be a different story. " yes, my heir. i know... i know it isn't conventual , but when i am king, well my first born would be considered my heir" he knew his father had been talking about arranged marriages for him, but he was hoping that wouldn't happen any time soon. " does it bother you if you were my mistress?" stephen asked her, before pressing his lips to hers in a subtle kiss, he wanted her more than anything. " you will stay here in the castle, i will find you a room where you can stay, i will ensure it is in the servants quarters so noone suspects anything, but you will not want for anything" stephen promised her. " tell your sister, it should be a stable boy that you are pregnant with the child of. until the right time it should stay between us"

her body melted into his embrace her arms wrapped around him keeping him close. He was not yet king but yet she saw the weight of the world on his shoulders. Reaching up she carded her fingers through his hair. She knew that the two kingdoms were on the brink of war and that he wanted it to change. "Oh trust me, I do not wish for your father to find out. I despite my condition would like to continue working." Cleaning his chamber but at least she could leave him little reminders or updates on the baby without many knowing. "You're heir?" Those words perked her up because she was sure he'd marry off to some princess and this child would be what it was. She leaned into his touch. "oh so I will be your mistress on the side?" She questioned with a smile and then nodded. "My sister works in the kitchens sometimes serves you and your family." She admitted to him even if the two girls looked not similiar they did have different fathers after all. "I trust you Stephen." She whispered to him, and leaned up giving him a gentle kiss.

stephen wrapped his arms around her, wanting to bring her close as physically possible. there had always been something different about her, she had made him feel seen more than anyone else had been. that may have seemed strange considering he was a prince, but for so long he had felt like a puppet in this game, and with her he felt truly free. he wished he could leave this life behind, but he knew he could make a difference once he became king. he needed to at least true and bring these feuding kingdoms together. when she questioned that this was the end of their time together, he shook his head, his hands stroking up and down her back. " of course not , we will need to keep this quiet , my father must not find out that you are carrying my heir. i do not know what his reaction would be, but i fear it would not be a good one" he sighed. " once he is gone, it will all chance, i will see to it " although he had not admitted it , he loved the girl in front of him. " i will look after you, and our child, even if i have to do so secretly, but it won't always be this way" stephen promised her, his fingers moving up to stroke against her face. " is there someone you trust that you work with?"

her eyes fluttered close for a moment at the kiss to her forehead, her stomach was firmer and she was sure that soon it would start to swell. When he spoke she sighed reaching up and touching his cheek. "Everything you could give me, is not you." She knew that too, she was nothing more than a maid. If it was to be found she was pregnant with the princes child, who knew if she'd even hold her position much longer. But Stephen had been kind, he had been different than most of the nobels and that always made her blush, feel more important than she was. "You were a man with passion's and desires. I indulged you in this, I knew I was playing with fire I was just hoping it didn't come to this. I am fond of you too Stephen, quite so. That doesn't change." At least she'd always have a piece of him, and she'd make sure his child grew up strong. "I suppose this is the end of our time together?" She questioned, not that she hoped it was so.

when she confirmed that she was indeed pregnant, a sadness filled his eyes. not a sadness that she was pregnant, but more so that he knew the issues this would cause her. if she was his wife, if she was a princess from an important family then this news would be celebrated all around, however the truth was that was not so. moving his hands down to rest against her stomach, he slowly leaned in to kiss her forehead. stephen had never understood why it should matter if someone was born royalty, or not. it didn't make them a better person, didn't make them more worthy, but he was sure he was alone in those views. " you will not raise this child alone, you will have everything i can give you" he told her, even if he couldn't be vocal about being the father, that did not mean he would see her without. soon he would be king, and then perhaps he could change the views of a bastard child. " i was foolish to put you in this position, but i have found myself growing fond of you during this time together"

she had been warned by the few that knew not to mix it up with the prince, what lowly standing she had would be in ruin if it ever got out. But he was so magnetic and she couldn't stop herself, she continued to play with fire but now? She had been burned. "I am with child, your child." Did she expect him to lay claim to the child in her womb no. But he at least deserved to know. "I have seen a priest and he has confirmed it. Said I am a little ways along." Aubree told him. She reached out and touched his chest. "I know my standing, I know that I am raising this child on my own. But I at least thought you should know my prince." She told him gently. Oh to play with youth, to play with fire like she had, she should not have been as surprised as she was when the priest confirmed her illness was pregnancy.

the young prince knew it wasn't going to be long before he took over his father's kingdom. the old ruler was nearing the end, but stephen was not sure he was ready to take such power. the neighbouring kingdoms were feuding, war was on the horizon, and once his father died he knew many of them would take the opportunity to take over. he had been seeking comfort in one of the chamber maids, she was young and beautiful, but he knew she'd never be accepted to be anything more by his mother. her news though, was not something he'd been expecting by any means. " you're with child?!" stephen stared at her in disbelief, well it shouldn't have been a shock considering the time they had spent together. " ...are you sure? have you seen a priest?"

her spirit was one of the main things he loved about her, he knew he would never have a quiet life if he spent it with her, which was certainly not a bad thing. tristan pulled her in closer to him, his hands resting against her behind. " mm, i love it when you get all possessive" he teased her, glancing around to check they were alone before he reached under her dress, hitching it up slightly as he backed them up against the wall. "we will go see him later tonight , explain, perhaps you're right and he will give us his blessing"

"and yet, it is still not long enough," lysa replied, resting her hands on his chest and adjusting his shirt, "perhaps i am selfish but i want more time," she continued. she was not asking him to give it up but it was still what she wanted. she reached up to caress his cheek, "you are far more than a warrior to," she said, "and i will turn away any suitor no matter how handsome or strong or rich. i will remain unmarried for all my days just to spite him if he does not give us his blessing," she paused, "he could give you a title, some land. i will not take no for an answer," she explained stubbornly.

jakob moved back from her, reaching to retrieve his slacks from the floor where he had chucked them earlier that night. " of course you would be my whore, what else would you be?" jakob laughed, glancing back over at her on the bed. " i am a lord, and if i wanted you to come with me then i could take you with, or without giving your family any money for you" he told her, almost warned. " but, i am also wanting to keep relations close with your settlement, there is no need to make a problem here." once he had fastened his trousers back up, he moved back over to the bed, sitting down on the furs. " my men had their eye on you from the moment we arrived, it was only due to my interest in you that multiple of them did not keep you company this evening"

her father would have a fit if she saw her now, beneath a visiting warrior in her bed. thank the gods he was enjoying the festivities outside. tola couldn't help but let out a dry laugh, "you mean you intend to buy me?" she asked, raising an eyebrow as her hands moved into his hair, pulling his head back for a moment, "and what would i be if you took me with you?" she asked, "your whore?"

" it is longer than we have had for a long time, lysa" tristan sighed. " we should enjoy it whilst we can, and not ponder too much on what is to come later" tristan had worked hard to become on of his lord's most trusted fighters, and he wasn't going to abandon him, or the men he fought alongside for his own selfish reasons. however, there was no denying that his feelings for her were strong, and he was beginning to imagine a proper future with her. when she suggested speaking to her father, he smiled softly back down at her. " do you think he would give us his blessing? i consider him my father, my teacher, but i am just a warrior.... he probably has suitors for you, those of more... noble birth"

lysa could not resist and turned to face him in his arms. she rested her forehead against his and sighed, "it's not long enough," she said quietly. all of winter would seem like forever if he were not here but when he was here, it went by too quickly. she looked up at him, "is that such a bad thing?" she asked, "maybe if i spoke to him, if we spoke to him, we could have his blessing," she said. they had kept this a secret for so long but it was the worst kept secret in the kingdom. she struggled to hide her feelings.

tristan lifted her hand to his lips where he kissed it softly, before moving to wrap both of his arms around her. he hated leaving her, it was the sacrifice he had to make every time in order to serve his kingdom, to serve her father whom he admired more than his own. " i don't know, there has been no word of when we will be moving out again, which is promising in itself" usually when they returned, they had a time limit on how long they would be staying. " i think your father may have noticed my feelings for you" tristan chuckled, and leaned in to place a peck on her nose. " hopefully i will be here for the winter at least , we are to work on expanding the kingdom for the spring"

lysa turned away when he moved closer but didn't step away, allowing him to remain close. she could feel tears threatening to spill and did not want him to see, "my father, you mean," she pointed out. she had always admired tristan's loyalty and his ability to fight. it was what had caught her attention in the first place and she did not want to take him away from that but she hated being the one who waited. she was always waiting. she did take his hand when he reached for hers, "how long are you here this time?" she asked in her own whisper, closing her eyes as she awaited his answer.

"lysa" tristan sighed, daring to close the gap between them even though he could tell she was angry. " you know who i am, you know that i am a warrior, you know i have to go to fight whenever my lord commands it" tristan had always been a loyal fighter, it was what he had wanted to be ever since he was a young lad. " you are all i think about when i am away, it is the thought of you that brings me back here" he confessed to her in a low whisper, reaching for her hand. " please"

"why should i?" lysa turned suddenly to face him, temper as fiery as her hair, "you will gone soon enough," she tried to keep her voice level but it shook with fear and anger and even heartbreak, "why should i acknowledge your presence when i will go back to missing you as soon as there is another battle to fight?"

" i will make sure you are paid fully for the new table" tristan assured her, he had not meant to make any trouble for her, but he had never been one to walk away from a fight , especially if he had consumed too much ale. as soon as the distance between them had been closed, he wrapped his strong arms around her waist to draw her in closer. watching as she undid the collar of his shirt , a playful smirk hovered over his lips. " what if one of your customers were to walk in right now?" tristan asked, his fingertips snaking down the side of her body to rest at the hem of her dress, daringly brushing over the inside of her thigh.

ㅤㅤㅤ"Whatever makes you sleep better at night," she teased as she finished with the table wiping and leaned against it, arms crossed under her chest. "I had to order a new table from the carpenter. It wasn't cheap," Estrid tilted her head, and a smug smile curved her lips as she watched him come closer. Estrid pushed herself off the table and closed the distance between them. "Perhaps you should," she mused with a small shrug yet she brought her hand up to his neck, her finger lightly touched his skin as she brought it lower and pulled on a string undoing the collar of his shirt so it would be easier to pull it over his head.
