i used to b one of those militant 'NO ONE WHO ISNT XYZ LIKE ME WILL EVER UNDERSTAND ME' ppl until i was like 17 n i still see ppl think like that n let me just say. that attitude towards identity n experience is incredibly alienating and lonely. i actually i think it does more harm for minorities n prosecuted groups than good. like yeah, a white person wont know what its like to experience racism, n a cis person wont know what its like to experience transphobia, etc. etc. etc. but idk, many ppl will relate to feeling different, to feeling like they constantly have to represent an entire group, to being picked on, to being an outsider, to not fitting in w the mainstream. hell, ive had conversations w cishet white men abt my trans experiences n they were able to relate n understand them for one reason or another.

that obv isnt to diminish stuff like idk racism within lgbt communities or ableism in schools. idk what the point of this post is. dont close urself off to other ppl? u n ur experiences r not as different as u might think, n u can resonate n make sense to more than a small subsection of ppl w ur exact combination of identities. open urself up to others. u r not alone.

on the one hand, I'm really enjoying the pendulum swing away from minimalism and towards the kitschy, colorful 70s vibes with all the wavy lines and bubble letters. it's fun. on the other hand it's not really kitschy. it still seems very influenced by minimalism. the color palette is a little too careful, the tchotchkes in the coffee shops are too selectively chosen and placed. you can have one little molded glass rooster next to this weirdly shaped but still very elegant ceramic vase. tee hee isn't that so cute and quirky. it reminds me of Chris Fleming "those aren't freaks, those are attractive people with carefully vetted idiosyncrasies"
