Condensed Chaos: An Introduction To Chaos Magic by Phil Hine: While this is a chaos magic 101 type book, it has an incredibly robust chapter on servitor/thoughtform creation. It also has the benefit of talking about chaos magic more broadly to give you more context for servitor/thoughtform creation. You can find my initial thoughts on it here. APPLICABLE PAGES: 106 to 125, under the chapter name "Chaos Servitors"

The Forty Servants, The Four Devils, and The Grimoire of The Forty Servants by Tommie Kelly: Two pre-made servitor systems that are incredibly in-depth and, in my opinion, quite fun to use. There's a little bit of plug-and-play applicable here.

Magickal Servitors: Create Your Own Spirits to Attract Pleasure, Power and Prosperity by Damon Brand: It is effective, straight to the point, and actionable. But interestingly, it's incredibly combative towards chaos magic, which is where servitor/thoughtform creation sprung up to begin with. You can find my initial thoughts about it here.

Tumblr Posts I Find Less Helpful

Creating a Servitor and Creating a Thoughtform by witchy-oates: These guides aren't bad, but they really seem to focus on the fear that a servitor will spontaneously develop sentience, which I generally disagree with.

Is Your Spirit A Thoughtform? by elysiumconjures: A lengthy questionnaire and list of red flags that an entity you're interacting with might be a thoughtform. Personally I found it frustrating to read, but the list can at least guide beginners who are still learning discernment techniques to figure out what to look for.

On Telling The Difference Between A Thoughtform And A "Real" Spirit by creature-wizard: The counter-post to the above one, though you kind of need to see both perspectives to fully appreciate creature-wizard's wonderful counterpoints.

Distinguishing Imaginary Friends, Thoughtforms, and Spirits by spiritconnect: Another post about deciphering whether what you're talking to is a thoughtform or some other kind of entity.

A Short Guide to Thoughtforms by thewitchofbucktown: Longer than it promises, and I personally don't feel like referring to all deities as thoughtforms is something that works with my understanding of things at this time, but not a bad post considering it was written 11 years ago. Plus, OP hasn't deactivated, which is really hard to find in servitor/thoughtform resources.

Servitors: A Basic Guide to Artificial Entities by tinyrosemarysparrows: While this is a very detailed guide with some interesting and unique approaches to servitor creation, the author dropping back to "destroy if it even blinks wrong" (not that much of an exaggeration) makes me hesitant to recommend it fully, hence its placement down here. The post even says you can reprogram servitors but still recommends immediate destruction for every little thing, so…it's not really how I roll.

Books And Websites I Find Less Helpful

Creating Magickal Entities: A Complete Guide to Entity Creation by David Michael Cunningham, Taylor Ellwood, and T Amanda R Wagener: I hated this book so much. Out of everything in here, I found only four things that were actionable and that I could use. Every single author here was pretentious as fuck and took forever to make their damn point. This could have been an email. You can read more of my complaints here. The three parts that I found most interesting can be read in these Tumblr posts of mine: Servitors as Links; Energy Store-House Entities (ESHEs); and Servitor Biographies.

Protection & Reversal Magick: A Witch's Defense Manual by Jason Miller: I can't fucking believe I'm putting a Jason Miller book here. And look, I can't say this entire book is helpful because I haven't yet finished it, but the section on artificial spirits created for magical offense and defense? Probably one of the best sections on servitors/thoughtforms I've read in a non-dedicated book in a while. Just be aware that his tone of speech is deeply annoying, and this book of his leans more Hekatean. But because I have not finished reading this book, I cannot recommend this book fully. APPLICABLE PAGES: 119 to 146, under the chapter name "Spirit Guardians and Servitors"

Hands-On Chaos Magic: Reality Manipulation through the Ovayki Current by Andrieh Vitimus: I hated this book. I hate this book. I will hate this book. It's deeply frustrating and there's only so many times I can keep writing "stop citing a white woman on hoodoo" in the book itself before I just start eating the pages. That, and many similar problems, are why I do not find this book helpful on the whole despite how in-depth it goes in its three chapters on servitor creation. The author also refers heavily back to Condensed Chaos by Phil Hine, so that's required reading before you even pick this up. Personally, I'm just not impressed. APPLICABLE PAGES: 287 to 339, under the chapter names "Creating Entities with Energy and Information", "Giving Form to Concepts and Ideas", and "Advanced Practicum on Entity Creation"

repetition — it’s not optional, babe.

💭 first off, repetition isn’t something you can skip out on. it’s literally just how the brain works, whether you like it or not lol.

just because you aren’t sitting there consciously repeating for a set amount of time doesn’t mean you aren’t still repeating. bringing yourself back to the new story? yup, that’s repetition. thinking from the new story? that’s also repetition.

you’re just restating a fact to yourself. that’s all it is, a retelling = repetition. so, no, you don’t have to sit around saying the same affirmation for two hours, but if you’re mentally telling yourself you already have it, that’s a form of repetition, too. 👍🏽

nope, babe, you really don’t. it’s not about hours of repetition. the whole point is to think as if what you want is already true. some people can just decide once and keep it pushing. others? they might need a little more repetition, and that’s totally fine.

why can some people just decide once? let’s dive into that, bc ya girl here is one of them. 😌

♡︎ — WHY DO SOME PEOPLE NEED TO CONSCIOUSLY REPEAT, BUT OTHERS DON’T?

so, here’s the thing. some people have been living the opposite of what they want for so long that they need a lil reminder things are different now. they can’t just jump from A to Z like that. repeating helps them let it sink in as true.

for others, it’s as simple as knowing you’re in full control. once you really get that you are the only one in charge, and that what you say goes, it’s easier to just decide something is true without needing to repeat it over and over. we don’t need to repeat for hours unless we want to, because we’ve accepted our role as creators of our reality.

♡︎ — HOW DO I GET TO THIS POINT?

can’t speak for everyone, but here’s what worked for me: repetition. saturating my mind with the idea that manifestation is instant, that i am the only creator in my reality, etc., did wonders for me.

on top of that, seeing it happen again and again proved it to me. every time i manifested something, it was like, oh, there it is again. proof stacked up, and now i fully get that the world is my playground. for some, this clicks on the first try, but for me? it took a few rounds, and that’s okay.

♡︎ — IS SATURATION WORTH IT?

absolutely. saturation is literally my go-to, and yes, it’s a faster way to manifest. when you feed your mind the new story constantly, it has no choice but to reflect it (as long as you’re not mentally fighting it nonstop).

but if you’re more into just accepting your desire as true without the repetition, that works too. how? by recognizing that as the creator, what you say goes. once you grasp that, it’s easier to decide without needing to repeat for hours.

♡︎ — SO WHAT’S THE RIGHT WAY?

there isn’t one. whatever you vibe with is correct. if you want to repeat, saturate, decide once, whatever—it all works. and if you’re out here criticizing someone’s method? babe, that’s a you problem. it shouldn’t bother you, because everyone can do what works best for them. knowing law of assumption means knowing that what people assume to be true for them will be true for them.

at the end of the day, the goal is simple: accept your desire as true. be the person who has it. that’s it.

I've taken a month or two, to consider my concept and what kind of magical hero I'd want to be,,

It's nothing too different from Modoka Magica but I try to be careful!

Learn as much as I can before making a decision-

I think I am confident by now I can do this! I'm still waiting for the right time to make my wish, and if it's truly something I'll want forever.

In a way the only thing I had ever wanted my entire life was to survive. To live in my own apartment with people I loved, so they wouldn't have to worry so much about surviving the situations they were in, too.

That dream is the only thing that's kept me alive- the only thing I've ever truly wanted.

And!! I'm moving soon! Moving in with the people I swore to protect and to keep alive! Even as young as elementary school, it's all I've wanted. I'm an adult now!

I don't know what I want to do after this. All I ever wanted was that family.

I just want to keep them safe forever!! So I've decided when I move I'll make my contract. Kyubey has already talked to me, I know it's something I want, and is lined up. Part of me still wants to rush into it now!! But I don't wanna make any rash decisions!

I'll post drawings of what I think my outfit/themes will be soon!! I love jester type themes and I see myself in that archetype a lot!

Everything I know about labyrinths

What labyrinths are

Labyrinths are the places witches and familiars hide in. They are hidden and can only be accessed through a doorway of sorts, which can sometimes be seen as a sigil or grief seed that's about to hatch. Witches sometimes bring their victims to their labyrinths in an attempt to eat them.

Astral labyrinths

Astral labyrinths can be accessed through sigils or by astral projecting right by the labyrinth's entrance. You can also bilocate in order to be in both an astral labyrinth and the physical realm at the same time. Theoretically, you could be fighting a witch and doing your homework at the same time, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. It's best to focus when you are in a labyrinth so you don't get hurt.

Physical labyrinths

I am not a physical magi, so I don't know much about this. Physical labyrinths are in the physical realm, so they can be more physically dangerous, while astral labyrinths may be more mentally/spiritually dangerous. I would assume it's easier for civilians to get lost in these, especially if they have a witches Kiss. When dealing with a physical labyrinth, it is important to make sure everyone near is safe, and to check to make sure there's no one on the inside either. It would be very dangerous for any non magical hero.

You may be wondering how you find these labyrinths in the first place. You can do so in a few slightly different ways. You could use your soul gem's glow. The brighter it glows, the closer you are. The way I use most is sort of a sixth sense. You know when a witch is near, and you can see the sigil in your mind's eye. With this sense, you can also tell which direction they are in and how strong they are and if they're a familiar. It's hard to explain it if you don't have that sense. Once you're in the labyrinth, you could get lost very easily. There tend to be long hallways or many rooms empty or filled only with familiars. There isn't any trick to finding your way that I know of yet. The best advice I can give to you is to look around and try and find places you haven't gone yet. They aren't (usually) mazes, so it shouldn't take an hour to find the witch or anything.

An Introduction to Creating and Enchanting Magical Tools

Most, if not all, magical paradigms refer to the use of tools for certain tasks and the world of magical heroes is no different! Whether it’s a pen or brooch for a transformation sequence or a key to unlocking arcane magics, we can find many examples of magical items in mahō shōjo media that can be utilized in your own practice.

Please note that this is a non-exhaustive and non-canonical discussion of the creation and use of magical tools. If you’d like a deeper dive into a particular canon, feel free to send me a message and I’ll see what I can do!

It may seem obvious but the first step in creating a magical tool is determining what its use is. This not only contextualizes the tool within your practice but it can also help determine what is necessary for your needs. Ask yourself questions like:

What is this tool’s function?

Is this tool physical or purely aetheric?

What materials should it be made of?

Should this tool remain on my person at all times? If so, how do I carry it? If not, how should it be stored?

When working with mahō shōjo influences it is especially tempting to purchase detailed, manufactured replicas of your favorite characters’ items and while you can certainly go out and find something along those lines, I always recommend taking the time and energy to make your own tools. I find items that I have created myself are more powerful and reliable. (I’ve noticed this particularly so for objects that can be used for divination, such as cards and pendulums.)

And you do not need to be an experienced prop maker to create a potent magical object! While I do stress the importance of doing the creating yourself, don’t ever be ashamed to ask for help or assistance! As long as you have given it careful consideration and genuine energy, you’ll find that something that may look simple to others can carry immense power when you wield it.

Note: I would say the only caveats to creating your own magical tools outright would be if you were gifted a magical item or if you divined characteristics of an item and are yet to piece together all of its properties. If you were gifted a magical tool, or you are repurposing something that you already own, try to get as much information as you can about its creation and what energies it is imbued with (including any emotional or psychic attachments); if there are things about it that you do not deem necessary or appropriate for your work, I highly recommend cleansing it magically before use and find ways to reroot it to your practice or avoid using it all together.

After you have finished your creation, I recommend enchanting it to further connect it to you and your practice. This can be done in any number of ways but I think it is always best to do something that makes sense in context; for example:

Consecrate the item with water, oils, incense, etc. that is imbued with the energies you want it to carry. Consider associations such as celestial or elemental correspondences, if they apply. Just make sure it makes sense to you!

Is your work in dedication to a certain entity? Consider opening communication with it and get its input on how you should store and charge your new tool. They might also have opinions on how you should use it and if there are any voces magicae, or magic words, you might invoke.

If this is an item you associate with dreams or the astral, sleep with the tool placed under your pillow, under your bed, or somewhere close at hand like a nightstand. You can also consider charging it under moonlight after each use.

If you have an altar dedicated to this part of your practice, place your new tool on it and consecrate it as you see fit. By enchanting and/or storing it the proximity of other items that you have already associated with your work, you can easily establish it as part of your canon.

I put this in the MAGI METRO server (i just joined recently but im a lurker there) but its a good place to put it here too!

MY CONCEPT-

In some mythology, reapers are people who harvest the souls of the dead and guide them to the afterlife. In a way, my role will be similar to it.

As a reaper magical hero of sorts, it will be my job to

-reap negativity and pain from people

-rid of entities/witches with negative intentions on people

-and guide the lost.

Most of this concept is based off a past life I've had (fictionkin) where I was the reaper of the goddess of death, who would fight people in wars and bring justice and rightness, only really killing the ones who deserved it, with some pawns killed as well.

My familiar will be a crow, due to the fact that I am familiar to the crows and crows are an omen of death.

I am not fully sure about the incubator yet, but based on it, I am thinking that the goddess of death, Kristen, will be the one to make the deal, trading a wish of sorts to become her "reaper" once more.

This concept basically takes the role of a reaper and combines it with parts of Madoka Magica, where you trade a wish in exchange for becoming a magical girl.

All reapers have 2 or more weapons on them, one being the scythe and another a weapon to weaken foes. You have to weaken them with your other weapon (mine will be a gun) before you can harvest them with the scythe.

The effects of harvesting it is that if it drops something, you can replenish your magic with it. A lot of the fighting part, especially with the weapons, takes some magic from ya.

The outfits are inspired by plague doctors, though definitely more fancified and instead the mask being more like a bird or deer skull where my eyes can't be seen through the eye holes.

this might be like an unspoken sentiment that everyone here has and sorry for a cheesy wall of text but i'm just. really happy that magic is real. that magical girls are real

i was a kid that was obsessed with anything supernatural or out of the ordinary. i wanted there to be something special about the world, and i wanted to know everything about it. i made the same wish to every shooting star and every wishing well. "please let me see magic with my own eyes. it has to be here somewhere, just let me find it."

i always held on to the hope that it was real. that one day, i'd wake up and know it was real. that it wasn't just a "what if," that it was an "it is." i wanted to feel magic in my fingertips, in every breath and in every step and in every heartbeat.

my love for magical girls specifically started a little later, though still with the same sentiment. i suppose i was always a fan, but the moment i truly fell in love with the idea was when i was around 8 or 9 years old. my first show i watched in its entirety was smile pretty cure, after finding out the netflix version had missing episodes.

i wanted that. i wanted to walk to school and bump with a fairy on the way. i wanted to blink and suddenly have everything i ever dreamt of. i wanted frilly dresses and sparkly attacks. i wanted to make the world a better place with my friends. was that too much to ask for?

my first contact with real life magical girls happened sometime in january 2023. i don't exactly remember where or how, but i remember it led me to wattpad. "my magical girl journey" and "irl magical girl guide" books, most were old and not being updated but i really couldn't care. you're telling me it's real? have i finally found what i've been looking for?

it's been a while since then. i've made friends, have gotten better emotionally. it feels like this is where my life actually starts off.

every day, i wake up and i know it's real. i'm in too deep to doubt myself now, i've seen magic with my own eyes. i can feel it in my fingertips and in every breath i take, in every step and in every heartbeat.

it just... warms my heart. really. i can confidently say magic is real. magical girls are real, and i'm one of them. is that not amazing? i really do feel like i'm honoring my child self by doing all that i do. it makes me want to keep going. i'm still young, there's so much i haven't seen or done yet. soon, it will be my four month anniversary of being a "full-fledged" magical girl. and i know i'm not stopping anytime soon. now, i can only hope that i'm the confirmation that magic is real to someone, like all those magical girls on wattpad were for me. i hope at least something i've done could inspire someone, that it made someone happy the way i feel happy just by being here.

so, if you're reading this. magic and miracles, they're real! please don't give up in your dreams, as "impossible" or "stupid" you may think they are. hell, if i had given up at any point, i wouldn't even be half of the person i am today, and i like to think i'm a pretty cool person. keep moving forward! i believe in you.

Day 37 <3

🎀✨Day 37: Lots of things having to do with soul gems makes me feel physically empty, sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a bad way. When I contracted and wasn't used to my soul being outside my body, I felt dizzy and empty, and then when I purified my soul gem, it made me feel empty in a good way, like I got rid of clutter in myself. ⏱💣I should really fight the witches and familiars I find. I kept putting it off because I was worried I couldn't astral project, but you don't need to. I should just bilocate since that's a lot easier for me to not get lost. 💐☕There are worse villains than witches, and they keep trying to sabotage everyone. I wish I could fight them, but I'm supposed to trust others to fight them in a better way. 🎧🌊I think of being a magical hero like being an exorcist. The witches are basically souls that need to be put to rest, so fighting them helps them as well. Sometimes I see people saying they feel like fighting witches is like fighting anyone else and you shouldn't do it, but there's no cure for them, so it's better this way. 🍎📿You guys would never think I'm evil, right? Can I still be a cute magical girl, no matter what happens?

1. make a habit out of always having your soul gem on you

as an astral puella magi, this habit should be made even before you contract! make sure your physical soul gem is in something you can easily carry with you on the daily. not having your soul gem with you makes you unable to use magic, as well as possible physical side effects such as headaches and nausea (speaking from experience, sob...)

2. always keep a grief seed on you!

grief seeds are essential, so i advise you to always keep an extra one with you if possible, in case you need it! grief seeds only hatch with enough negativity, so don't worry about it forming a witch while it's with you. additionally, always dispose properly of your grief seeds with an incubator!

3. play it safe while fighting witches.

always analyze the enviroment of the labyrinth, and check for areas you can retreat to if things get messy. never fight without a plan! be cautious, remember your life might be on the line. you can do it!

4. train train train!!

always get a good hold of your abilities, and how to use them. you can train in the astral or in this realm! i also recommend you make notes on what you need to improve on. i can make a separate post on training if enough people want it hehe

5. go to incubators for information

incubators know more than they let off. always ask them for info! this can be anything such as the limitations of your soul gem or abilities, if there are other local magical girls in your area and if they are territorial, and information on nearby witches. pressure those little bastards into giving you info!!!

But! To answer your question, the energy emitted by your soul gem will feel murky and uncomfortable. You'll often have mental symptoms, or reduced magical capacity/struggles accessing magic. So when you use a grief seed, those difficulties should diminish and your soul gems energy should feel a lot clearer.

And yes! Magically tethering grief seeds to objects is possible!

What soul gems are, and what they are for

Soul gems are containers for the souls of puella magis. They are useful while fighting to keep you safe. With a soul gem, you are able to be okay after injuries that would usually make it impossible to continue battle due to pain or damage to your body.

How to use them to find witches or use magic

Soul gems are also useful to detect witches. When you are near a witch, your soul gem will glow more. You can use this like a game of hot and cold to track down the witches labyrinth. To use magic or transform, it is easy, you just need to know what you want to do and try to do it. Using your intuition and intention together will allow you to easily do what you want to do.

Corruption and purification

Soul gems can become corrupted after using too much magic or holding too much grief. You will know when your soul gem is becoming corrupted when it gets cloudy and no longer glows. In the case of a dark soul gem, you will still be able to tell. If you are in a dark area, and your soul gem isn't providing much light anymore, or if you see specs of color like in a labyrinth, that's a sign of corruption. In order to combat this, you will need to use grief seeds to purify it. Grief seeds can take the grief out and store it, and when they're full, you can give them to Kyubey so they don't hatch. Corrupted soul gems can be harmful because you will be weaker with magic, and there's a chance that a witch will hatch out of your soul gem like how they hatch out of grief seeds that have stored too much, except it would be you.

What your soul gem will be like

Your soul gem when not in gem form will likely be jewelry or an object you carry with you often. Your soul gem will either be your favorite color or the color you are most connected to, it won't be something you don't like. It's the same with the shape. The shape will be what you like and what represents you best. It's your soul, it knows you the best, so it'll be perfectly fitting and exactly what you would choose if you had all the time to think about it. Using magic with it should feel just as natural as most things.

Safety and comfort

Your soul gem is you, so be very careful with it. Keep it near you so you will keep a strong connection between yourself and your vessel. Although 100 meters is the limit, but the further you go from it, the worse you'll feel. I've heard that you can lose your magic, be unable to transform, be unable to detect witch sigils/labyrinths, have a feeling of dread, have headaches, be nauseous or vomit, or be fatigued or pass out/lose control of your vessel completely Since your soul gem is you, if a witch or other magi strikes it, it could damage you far worse than other attacks. Make sure to keep it from harm, and while fighting, protect the spot with your soul gem with the highest priority.

it feels a bit strange to think about how im actually a magical girl now, and even if it's in the astral, it does have its own dangers. being a magical girl who fights in the astral is interesting, i like it, but im planning on changing up to become a physical magical girl soon! i pretty much have my own transformation sequence but it's short especially if im on a rush and barely have any time for a full-on sparkly transformation scene but we ball 💥💥

my first fight was really wild though, my friend suggested that the apparition i fought was related to confinement, so i've begun calling it the apparition of confinement. the boundary it was in was cage-themed and had spiral stairs leading up to the top

to simplify it, it was basically a really huge butterfly-themed entity in the astral that had holes of varying sizes on its wings with really sharp edges that could cut through things, it threw around little sewing needles and odd enough, it can tear off its own wings, which was horrifying ngl. the butterfly apparition also had ribbons that connected the bottom of its wings to the floor of the boundary

THE FIGHT WAS SO ???? i dont know how to describe it, it was actually an apparition i found before at school when i was still unable to transform and i wanted to deal with it. pain and injuries still exist, you wont be left unscathed, but i was able to regenerate as a magical girl and the pain stings for a few seconds before it gets muffled and numbed away, which i think was a result of the pain tolerance part of being a magical girl

tldr IT WAS A BIT WILD... butterfly-themed apparition that i fought in the astral, began calling it the apparition of confinement due to the motifs it had. planning to become a physical magical girl, though im aware that itll expose me more to physical dangers and physical injuries

I’m a big fan of magical girls and a practitioner of chaos magick and I’ve never actually thought about combining the two, so I definitely wanted to thank you for making your blog about this.

hello! it's a bit silly to think about it but it's nice to see another person who's named after the northern star, i cant blame anyone though since it's a pretty name. i'm hoping that you'll find some useful information from my blog. this answer i have will be a really long read, it cant be helped that i'm passionate about being a magical girl so i ended up typing a lot 😭

as for how i practice being a magical girl, it's complicated to say but i'll be very happy to explain. i practice being a magical girl in both mindset and literal magic, but what i associate the most with being a magical girl is being capable of taking independent control over your own life (even little by little) and using a sense of hopefulness to guide you into a certain future that you want no matter how dire things may get which is REALLY cheesy and corny but hopefully you get the idea.

i think it's a very empowering thing to become a magical girl, because it is actually possible unlike what other people have told us so. it's like embodying what a magical girl is shown to be while doing what you can to be yourself. what i meant by empowering is that since something that's deemed as childish like being a magical girl is actually realistic, what other supposedly impossible things exist out there that are possible or can be turned possible?

as for the literal magic aspect, i do work with a magical familiar, like a type of entity work but for magical girl familiars rather than typical spirits, and my familiar does undeniably look like an actual. magical girl mascot. my familiar helps me embody the way i think a magical girl is like, they help me train, keep me company, give me advice, and overall be a magical girl mentor. i also work with my familiar for regular occult things but i wont dive deeply into that topic.

this other part can be related to energy work, but because of being a magical girl, some of my witchcraft practitioners friends who don't know about irl magical girls have mentioned that my energy has taken a more positive but permanent change to it? and i do consider that my own energy has become magical, and i do train myself to use literal magical girl magic more efficiently.

i use chaos magic and manifesting altogether to become a magical girl by literal definition, as in one who can transform and fight. so far, i've only been able to transform in the astral but i'm planning to take it to the physical level, i've been getting plenty of phantom shifts into my magical girl outfit.

lastly for the fighting part, i've done some physical training and magical training, also honing my skill to sense the negative forms of energies that manifest into harmful entities that i'll be fighting, which would occur both in the astral plane and physical plane. and recently, i did sense one of those entities but since i'm currently a half-baked and under training magical girl, i had no choice but simply keep track of it and the entity's "signature" so i'll be able to fight them in the future.

i rambled a lot, but i'm hoping i managed to provide different perspectives on how someone can be a magical girl!
