                     Did they even make maps for Frost Cavern?

                          If they don’t , someone should. 

      Marie never went into this mysterious cavern, despite living in the town connected to it. There were multiple reasons for this, actually. It was cold, it was dark, most people who went in never came out... Maybe not all of that was actually true, but it was what she believed. Town gossip didn’t improve the reputation either.

       Curiosity had nevertheless took hold and compelled her to actually wander in the cave. Though, she tried her best to be prepared for what might happen. She brought her Pokemon, a thick jacket, and some snacks. Even Silly-chan, her Sylveon, was impressed. All too many times has Marie been caught in an unfamiliar place with no knowledge of where she is, but this time would be different!

     Except now, wandering in an unfamiliar place with no knowledge of where she was, this thinking changed. By just taking one turn this whole cavern appeared like a frosty nightmare. It was surprisingly bright, most likely due to all the reflected light. with all the reflections, however, it was hard to tell what was there and what wasn’t. 

     Shivering and numb, Marie questioned whether she would see another human ever again. 

 --- Wait, was that a person? Maybe there was some hope for her yet! 

              “Ah- wait- excuse me! 

                           Wait! Please! 

                                              Do you have a map on you?”

Ziarae chuckled softly, seeing the flustered look on the Gym Leader’s face. She didn’t see the whole big deal; she was still a person, the title of Champion not changing that fact. She really didn’t see the whole fanfare about it.

“It’s quite alright, I don’t mind. And why would I not be here? The Sawsbuck festival brings Trainers from all over, it would only be natural that most, if not all the Champions would come to see.”

Gibdo floated his way over to the flustered young lady and lead out his hand, in case she may had needed assistance.

“Don’t mind Gibdo, he’s just checking out if you’re okay. He’s a softie.” she said, as the Dusknoir floated around her, before moving back.

“Er- right! Of course they would!”

     Marie giggled, a little bit embarrassed by her comment. She really should consider thinking before speaking. Still, she couldn’t get over the fact that she was talking to the Champion. It was just so, incredible. Someone so highly regarded was actually speaking to the little new Gym Leader. 

      Had the Dusknoir not startled her out of her thoughts, she just might have passed out. “Oh he’s so cute! Thank you!” She gave a nod to signal that she was just fine. Her hands clasped together to admire the large Pokemon, if only for a few moments. They both were just as dazzling in real life as they were on television.

                   “Oh! Do you have any special plans for the festival?                                          I can’t imagine you’d just want to sit back and watch all the events! ”

It’s worth a shot, at least.  Or so it seemed.  She finally made her way around the Kalos region and came across a gym with rare (new) Pokemon.  Fairy types seemed to be discovered here, a new type that can beat down even the strongest of dragons - and it was only sensible that there was a gym to show off those Pokemon.  By her side sat Ivy, her prized Ivysaur, as they stared upon the double doors that lead to the entrance to the gym.  

“Ivy… Do you think we should try it?”  The small plant type nuzzled it’s trainer’s leg, giving a reassuring nudge forward with an excited “saur!”  “Yeah, you’re right!  It’s not about winning and getting a badge, it’s about trying!”  Kneeling down, a gentle head rubbed behind the ears and eventually down to the ivy leaves upon it’s back, a soft giggle emitting from her lips.  “Thank you, Ivy.  I don’t know what I’d do wthout you.”  

Standing up, she dusted the dirt from her hands and placed them onto her hips, breathing a deep sigh to try and calm her nerves.  One… two… three seconds passed until finally she pushed through the barrel doors, coming into view of the huge gym that lay ahead of her.  

“Uhmn, hello?  I’m looking for the gym leader…?”

     It’s been a pretty busy day already, and it’s not even noon yet. Trainers just kept showing up left and right. Not that this was a problem, of course. That was in the job description. After all, Marie did like battling. It was always so full of energy as both players always gave it their best; earning a badge if they were skilled enough. Being part of the higher-level Gym Leaders in Kalos, she couldn’t just give out badges freely. Each trainer had to earn them, which made it especially sweet when one was given out. 

    Silly-chan, her affectionate Sylveon, plopped down at her feet. Her team must be tired from the busy morning. It wasn’t over yet! Marie sat down next to the small Eeveelution and patted her head. Sylveon perked up at her trainer’s touch. She chirped and bounced up and down. Well, that was short-lived.Marie did hope her team actually liked the new job. They were much more worn out everyday, which truthfully had her a little worried.  

    The loud creak of the Gym’s door opening made Marie jump. Her face lit up with a bright smile. Look’s like someone else is here! Considering the pattern from earlier, she assumed it was another trainer. Soon enough, her eyes feel upon a rather pretty girl accompanied by an Ivysaur. They both appeared strong, which incidentally made her more excited. It wasn't all that nice to make such rash judgements,but she didn't necessarily think about that.  Hopefully they came for a battle! 

                              “You’re looking at her!                                                                             Are you here for a Gym Battle?”

  His Glaceon, Vivi, had started hissing at the approaching stranger. Even though it was just a cute girl, Vivi was never fond of anyone that wasn’t Athan. She probably thought the stranger was going to harm him in someway, causing him to quickly step down and give the Glaceon a pet on the head to calm her. With a friendly, but unapologetic smile he tried apologizing nonetheless. After all, it was his fault for wanting to do such a dangerous stunt, even if he was accustomed to performing such feats. 

  “Sorry, sorry~ But I can take care of myself! I won’t die from a little fall like that~” He had been through worst and his most trustworthy partners were with him after all, plus the fact that two of them were large bird species really helped. “I just wanted to get to the top and see the view from there! It looks like it’d be amazing. Have you tried?”

       The person’s Glaceon hissing made her jump a bit, but she recovered quickly. Even if the Pokemon was a little scary, she couldn’t lose her composure. Confidence, that’s what she was going for, confidence. Sylveon just gave the other Pokemon a rather quizzical look. She hardly ever acted so calmly, but must have sensed that they weren’t all that friendly. It left Marie a little uneasy, if she was being honest. 

               “A little fall? B-but the windmill is one of the biggest                                               buildings in the whole town! Even if you only got                                                 hurt, that would still be horrible! Oh, I just couldn’t let you do it! ” 

         Her tone was similar to that of a concerned sibling and less of a nagging know-it-all. Despite attempting to remain calm, the shock of the male’s words only left her flustered. Still, there was a little place in her heart that wanted to see someone actually sit on top of that old building. He was right, the view had to be incredible from up there.

                 “No, i’ve never tried before...                                                                                 Actually, i’ve never seen anyone try before.”

“I think it’s time to finally do it…”

Ziarae was with her Dusknoir Gibdo, fixing a stray lock of ruby red hair. She was always slightly interested in Contests, but never got into them, the Kalos Pokemon League challenge on the forefront of her mind, but now that she had conquered it, she could focus on different aspects of Pokemon activities; mainly, Pokemon Contests. Kalos was known for pumping out Contest Stars, and who knows; maybe Ziarae could be the next.

“Dusknoir…” Gibdo softly droned, looking at his trainer, looking rather excited. The soft spoken ghost type had an eye for the finer things, so he believed that a Contest would be right up his alley.

“Come on Gibdo, let’s sign up before they close up…” Ziarae said, just as a young lady walked up to her. One that she recognized. She better had, as she was a Gym Leader from her own League.

“Of course Marie, it’s right over there.” Ziarae pointed out, looking to the left, where a stage was set, with two tables to sign up.

         It took her less then a second to realize just who she happened to talk to. The Champion of Kalos. The astounding Champion of her own region. To say her eyes simply went wide was an understatement. They practically jumped out of her skull. A bright red blush appeared on her cheeks. 

        Marie was a big fan, to say the least. Being new to the world of elite pokemon trainers, she seldom had the chance to meet the Champion. This woman’s skill was one that Marie very much admired. Of course, she would have to be here because of the festival. She never thought she would accidentally run into The Champion, though. Oh wow, she even remembered Marie’s name! Her heart skipped a beat. 

                            “A-ah, Ms. Ziarae! I-I’m sorry I didn’t recognize you at first!                                     O-oh gosh, I-I didn’t know you’d be here!” 

    Her words stumbled out. She was just a bit flustered. Her mind scrambled, if only for a few moments, completely forgetting what she actually asked.

       This was it. This was the Swasbuck Festival. Marie hastily took the week off, like many of the other Gym Leaders, to enjoy this seasonal event. She traveled to Unova quite often, in all honesty. Most of it had to do with her parents moving to the region. Every time, however, she always managed to miss this glorious festival. It’s a shame, really. There was nothing like it back in Kalos. Now she was finally here to enjoy it.

      Walking up near Nuvema Town, Marie’s jaw dropped. Swarms of people covered the large grassy plain. Various booths sold glamourous trinkets not even she has seen before. Some of the most talented trainers in all the world could be spotted with their pokemon simply enjoying an unusual snack. It was everything she hoped to see and more. 

       Marie didn’t plan to be only a bystander. Oh no, she wanted to join in the Pokemon Contest being held here. She never entered in many contests before back in Kalos. They always seemed to clash with her new schedule as a Gym Leader. Upon hearing of the one being held during this week, she couldn’t resist trying it out. She didn’t expect to place first or anything, but simply wanted the experience of performing in front of a large crowd. Her Pokemon had been practicing for such a large-scale event. The routine was sure to be spectacular! 

     Now, where exactly was she supposed to sign up? There was supposed to be some sort of “main stage” where you sign up. Marie, however, couldn’t immediately see any form of a large stage. Perhaps she should ask someone? Walking up to the closest person from where she stood, she posed her question.

                “Ehm- excuse me? Do you know where the main stage is? I-I was                                                   hoping to enter the contest, you see...”

                 akari’s actually enjoying her trip to kalos thus far. going to the upper parts of the region where it seems to be a lot colder is very enjoyable, reminding her of her own home extraordinarily. she’d also heard plenty about a gym being build in the small town of dendemille town a couple of years back, though the exact date or year she didn’t know.

thus, curiosity had taken over and she’d taken a left turn and gone off track to see.

                  shoes tap lightly against the concrete sidewalk, taking every corner to find this gym. she was really, really curious. she just wanted to see it and meet the gym leader. that was about it. 

she enters the gym.

                                   “ EX—CUSE ME ! ! is the gym leader                                       available ? “

that’s one way to get their attention.

       Marie was off and doing her usual cleaning of the newly established gym. It was a considerably large task taking the size of the building into account. Hence, she usually set aside an entire day to complete it. Most trainers never come by for a battle on this day anyway. If one happened to come by, however, she wouldn’t have any problem taking a quick break. 

     Irregular footsteps could soon be heard outside the gym’s entrance. Perhaps some trainer did want to stop by? 

                     A loud, feminine voice echoed throughout the large space. It made Marie jump a bit before bursting closer to the door. 

        “yep, yep! I’m right here! Did you come for a gym battle?” 

Her smile looked a bit too enthusiastic.

Payton always lets her Gyarados out so she can get some fresh air, though she forgot how energetic she can get. She had caused a major splash with her tail and of course it caused a huge wave. She saw a girl get super soaked and Payton had to run over to her.

❝I swear she didn’t mean to get you super wet.❞

“yeah, I’m fine..”

   Marie let out a sigh as she tried to squeeze some water out from her newly soaked skirt. If only she had jumped out of the way when she saw that Gyarados tail come crashing down. A shiver crept up her spine. Was it this cold before she got wet?

   “Ah, it’s okay! Though, you wouldn’t happen to have a change of clothes on you by any chance? Now that these are kinda drenched, it’s a lot colder than I remember out here.”

     “Maia…”

     Marie whispered the name she only learned recently. This new friend appeared to be distraught; crying almost. Actually, she just might be. They may have just met, but Marie wished to help anyway she could. Though, she was completely unaware of the reasons behind the other girl's emotional state. 

     “Eh, please don’t cry! It’s going to be okay, alright? I know it will.” The young Gym Leader smiled warmly in an effort to comfort her new friend. She lifted a hand and gently tried to place it upon the others shoulder.

“But if life were only moments, then you’d never know you had one.”

“Whaaa, you’re so smart!” She brought her hands to her cheeks, “ I would never want to forget everything in life! That’d be so sad!”

“Stop asking me questions I can’t answer!”

       “A-ah sorry!” Marie waved her hands in an effort to calm the young boy down. “ I-I thought you might know something about where the main road is to a city. It looked like you were from around here and I just thought…”

( loud yelling. this is one of my favorite musicals ) “Opportunity is not a lengthy visitor.”

“Hm…Yeah, you’re right!” The young Gym Leader giggled in agreement. “I’m glad I took advantage of all opportunities I got! It’s not everyday you get asked to be a Gym Leader, or a Professor, or a lot of things, really!”

“Wow…” Marie looked dazed in though for a few moments. “Er- wait, what does that mean?” And then that look was gone.
