rhaenyra indirectly gives alicent her scar because rhaenyra is the one who starts the riots. the scars are representative of the harm they cause each other in their commitment to duty despite their shared love. it’s referencing the theme of love versus duty
I understand what the show was going for and I still hate it. I don't like their shared love 😭 they should be enemies at this point in the show. Any love they had for each other should have ended forever ago. I honestly think it would have been more interesting to see their love for each other turn into very bitter resentment than whatever they have going on right now. We seemed to be getting that in season 1 before Alicent suddenly started caring for Rhaenyra again out of nowhere. At this point Rhaenyra has been robbed of her throne, she has miscarried her only daughter, her son was murdered, and her aunt/cousin (what is Rhaenys to Rhaenyra??) was killed in battle. Alicent's grandson was horribly murdered, her son burned and crippled in battle, and she and her daughter were attacked by the smallfolk. All these events happened in quick succession. There should be no fond feelings for each other any longer and I don't like that House of the Dragon keeps trying to show the relationship between Alicent and Rhaenyra instead of giving us an accurate portrayal of grief and the anger and vengefulness that should be happening now. When their families are actively getting killed and the realm is in a civil war, I don't think Alicent and Rhaenyra should be longing for each other and Alicent definitely shouldn't be asking Rhaenyra to run away with her. There's too much hurt on both sides for them to still be realistically feeling this way.

“when the princess heard his words, she rushed toward him, crying, “father, father!” but jaehaerys turned his back on her, and gyles morrigen caught her by the arm and wrenched her away. she would not go of her own accord, so the guards were forced to drag her from the hall, wailing and sobbing and calling for her father.”

I'm gonna be honest I really hate the show and fans comparing the wounds that Rhaenyra and Alicent have on their arms and acting like it makes them similar in some way. It's just so forced. Rhaenyra's is from her having to protect Lucerys because Alicent was trying to gouge a 6 year old's eye out. Alicent's is from the riot the smallfolk started because the war (that Alicent helped start btw because she helped put Aegon on the throne) was heavily affecting them. I really don't understand what the show was thinking trying to make them have matching cuts or whatever. Rhaenyra really can't have anything to herself without the show making it all about Alicent too and I'm tired of it 😒

I’m thinking about Caracalla’s expressions in this scene. My chest hurts. AAAAAAAGH.

If we ever actually get to see Daeron in House of the Dragon, I hope he has short hair. Like there are a few Targaryen men that I have never been able to imagine with long hair and Daeron has always been one of them. He grew up in Oldtown with his Hightower side of the family after all and all the Hightower men we have seen have short hair. I just think it would make sense for him to match their style over trying to match his Targaryen side of the family.

I just noticed the way Caracalla seems rlly eager to toast in this scene but they don’t so he just stares at his glass and then is the most eager when they finally do, its such a tiny detail but it cracked me up

Look at this face.
Tumblr media
Look at how genuinely distressed Geta looks.
Not only does he have to deal with the very present reality that Caracalla—his only real family and friend—is suffering from an incurable disease, but he’s woken with a start to discover that his most trusted and prized general was plotting a coup against him. I don’t think Acacius has the heart to actually kill the young emperors—to dethrone them and put them in prison seems more his speed. But Geta doesn’t know that. For all he knows Acacius just conspired murder against his brother, as coups usually result in the murder of the head.
Geta is stressed out of his mind. He can’t trust his military, he can’t trust his senate, he can’t even feel safe in his high tower without armed Gladiators nearly killing him. He can’t even really trust the Praetorian either since their loyalty is literally based off of if they think you’re a good emperor or not, and from what we know that remains up in the air. So threats are coming at him from all sides and he feels as though he’s the only one who can truly protect his brother. There’s nothing he can really do against the conspirers, there’s nothing he can do about Caracalla’s mental descent, there’s no one he can ask for help, no one who can fix this for him. He’s on his own completely. And just when he thinks he’s received a warm helping hand, that same hand grabs his brother’s wrist and “guides” Caracalla’s knife into his jugular. Imagine how heartbroken he was in those final moments. Your new friend who you thought you could actually trust, turns the most important person in your life against you in order to brutally murder you. Wow.
Even with all the power, with all the might of Rome, Geta was powerless. Powerless against his father, powerless against his brother’s aggressive disease, powerless against the people of Rome, powerless against his own gluttony and poor choices. This man has probably never felt less safe, if he’s ever truly felt safe and at peace at all since he’s been crowned.
What a tragic character
