Legitimately WILD that this is how I'm finding out this information. Proud, I guess? Surprised?? Very flattered that 2/3 of my April Fools' jokes from twenty years ago have now been christened into full-blown pets. Holdin' out for a Lamort. 🤞🏼

This did make me wonder how I would draw a Varwolf nowadays while still sticking to the spirit of my original design, so here ya go:

Neopets/Skyrim Tarot: II. The High Priestess

Now it's time for the High Priestess, the card pulling double-duty as the "female" counterpart for both the Magician and the Hierophant, depending on the deck. Our two lovely ladies are Rasala the Bright and Saint Alessia.

Well, look at that, the Order of the Red Erisim is already back in this deck. Rasala the Bright is a female Pink Bori who was elected as the leader of the order because most of them are crotchety and erratic old men and they were self-aware enough to know that they needed someone more qualified for this.

Outside of what we found out about her during the War for the Obelisk in 2013, we don't know a lot about her. We know that The Neopets Team (TNT) based her on the Bori Mage card from the Neopets trading card game, we know that her power is channeled from the crystals of the Bori caves on Terror Mountain (which she refers to as her home, not just as her ancestors' home, so clearly she was born there), and we know that she has a Blue/default Erisim for a Petpet. The guidebook also says that her hat is so large because it's full of secrets, which makes me wish that I had a large hat full of secrets.

Considering the emphasis in the High Priestess card on things like forgotten and forbidden magic, Rasala is possibly the perfect choice. The only way you could make this better would be if you put her in the Hidden Tower, but Faerieland fell from the sky three years before Rasala was introduced as a character, so I can see why they just gave her her own hidden mage area instead of trying to stuff her in there.

Overall, excellent choice. On the other hand...

Alessia, known by every title from Saint to Queen to Mother of the Empire, was a Nede in the First Era who did a lot of cool shit. She started the Empire, she fused her soul with Akatosh in the Amulet of Kings, she beat the everloving shit out of the Ayleids (and if you know about the Ayleid flesh gardens, you know why that's a good thing), she founded the worship of the Eight Divines in the Imperial Cult (remember, she was around well before Talos was), she was believed to have become the wife of both Akatosh and Shor in death along with being the wife of Morihaus in life, she gave birth to the first (proper) minotaur, and she was even associated with the Thief constellation. She was a class-A badass like Pelinal Whitestrake was.

But why is she here?

This is the Skyrim Tarot first and foremost, especially when you look at the box. I could see having [Redacted for spoilers in this series] for the World and [Redacted for spoilers in this series] for the Hierophant since they're both Divines who are still actively worshiped in Skyrim during the course of the games. But Alessia? At best, you can stretch the argument that she founded the Eight Divines and half of the trouble in Skyrim revolves around whether or not the Eight are Nine (fuck you, Thalmor Embassy and Aldmeri Dominion). But other than that? I've got nothing.

Let's see. Recommendations for repair or replacement. If you want to use a Skyrim character, how about Idgrod Ravencrone, the Jarl of Morthal? She reportedly has visions in the game and uses that to guide Morthal. Or if we want to lean more into Divines and Daedra like most of the Major Arcana, how about Dibella? The Temple of Dibella in Morthal has a Sybil whose job it is to remain in constant contact with the goddess and directly preach her will - and other Houses of Dibella elsewhere do or did the same thing.

But fine, Alessia as the High Priestess. It's interesting to note that this is, as far as I can tell, the first time we have gotten a full-color depiction of Alessa. All of her statues are merely stone, a tapestry depicting her depicts her in all blues, and, well, depictions in metal are just the color of that metal.

I dunno, man. It feels strange to have her in the Skyrim Tarot. Like, bitch, why are you here? You should be relaxing! You should be done with this shit!
