Two people whose emotions and opinions were discouraged and dismissed as children, who were only ever pushed to fulfill the standards placed on them, who then as they grew up didn't know or understand who they were outside of the framework laid out for them. The boy can only interact with people through a constructed facade out of fear of hurting or being hated by others, and thus feels desperately lonely and misunderstood, like he's lying to people and can only be accepted or liked as that false self. The girl is deeply lost and depressed and unwell, which comes out in bursts of irrepressible destructive urges that lead to her being even more punished and isolated by the people around her.

Yet it is in part thanks to this isolated viewpoint that she is able to directly see the boy's loneliness and name it aloud. Because of this, he becomes interested in her and strives to get to know her. The girl is always trying to stop herself and suppress her impulses, but this only increases the stress and pressure she suffers under and leads to more outbursts in the end. She herself can't identify or explain well what sets her off to other people, but the boy is able to observe the patterns in her behavior and help her put words to it. Rather than chastise her or push her to change, he acknowledges how hard she's already been trying, and he modifies her environment to alleviate the stressors around her.

He helps her identify her own likes and dislikes, and prods her into voicing them aloud. Because she 'saw through' him, he's able to be his natural self around her, to be more pushy, to be more teasing, to voice his weird thoughts freely, to be emotional and open and vulnerable and affectionate, even in a full-on public crowded area, because he's so wrapped up in the safety and acceptance he feels with her. They give each other sanctuary to explore who they are with one another and bloom into their true selves.

Character A is disabled, but has incredible talent in a very niche field, which she uses to earn a living. Through this field she meets Character B, who is a powerful leader who excels at everything and is looking for a challenge to pass the time. They compete for weeks but B can never beat A, since both of them are rapidly improving their habilities by learning from each other. Through these weeks, A finds joy in her career again after improving her techniques after years and starts to value her own life. B looses sight of his original goal and just wishes to spend more time with A. He starts seeing the value of people who arent as physically powerful as he is, seeing in A that people who are weak can be strong in ways he didnt consider. A and B rediscover their own humanity in each other
