I have gotten about halfway through Midnight in Chernobyl (it's 380 pages before the citations begin, so I'm at page 200) and I am honestly choked up about it all. I started reading this book partially to write a better short story about it, but damn, I am just caught up by the tragedy of it all

I was in Panera Bread yesterday and I remembered Mocha Dick, the whale which Moby Dick was based on, and I wanted to see that sculpture of him again. Typing "Mocha Dick" into Duck Duck Go images did... not bring up that sculpture. Pornography. Pornography on my computer in the Panera Bread at 9:30 am. Such horror as I quickly typed in "whale" to try to rid my screen of it. That was the missing word, apparently, and the sculpture appeared. Do not try to replicate my results in a public place

i think i tend to forget how good boredom is for creativity because we're all so addicted to numbing ourselves with screens and stimulation. but standing in the shower or going for a walk with no music or just sitting in your bedroom without being allowed to touch any screens & all of a sudden i have multiple new projects to start, a solution to a months-long plot problem & 4 new original characters
