Gotta Catch 'em All (for science)/Consider Waddle Dee The Alpha Base Archive is a collection of treasure: it's not just the old documentation and intelligence reports left over from the war that put the base into the dark in the first place, it's a century's worth of writing, music, video, VR, and whatever other creations the inhabitants of the base ever made or brought with them from Earth. If it couldn't find a place in someone's home, it would find a home in the Archive. The human definition of "treasure" is broad, however. Apparently Nintendo's still going strong.

“It’s dangerous out there on the edge,” Paul continued. “Really dangerous. I could get someone to at least make sure you make it back in one piece. It doesn’t have to be me, if that’s what you’re worried about.”

“No.” He looked back. “But I’ll be fine. Thank you.”

“If you’re not back in six hours…”

“Then I’m not coming back. Don’t waste resources.” He pulled his gloves on next. “I’m not planning to go without ample preparation. I’m stopping at Jacob’s for supplies after this.”

That made Paul chuckle. “More supplies? Like what?” He eyed the full pack. “You look like you’ve got everything in there already.”

“Not everything.” The answer was evasive and curt. Hiding something again, Paul thought. He always was. Always. If Heinrich weren’t as close as blood to Errick, he’d be on a watchlist by now with all the skulking and secreting away that he did. If he hadn’t spent over twenty years proving who he was loyal to…

Or most loyal to, anyway.

Paul looked thoughtfully down into the dumb black eyes of his handheld companion. A few puzzle pieces clicked together in his head as he realized exactly what it was that he was holding. “Ah,” he said, amused, and gave the lizard an emphatic wiggle. “I’ve got it. I get it. Elliot. You’re going to see Elliot, aren’t you? What, does she have a book that you need back?”

And there was the sharp dagger in Heinrich’s look again – struck a nerve and the claws came out. As evenly as ever, Heinrich replied, “I said what I said.”

“I know. But I know you. You're way too soft on her. I mean—” He gestured with the toy. “—even this is hers, isn’t it? This little lizard? And you just keep it around.”

“Salamander.”

“Same thing.”

“It isn’t. That’s an amphibian.”

“Whatever."
