i never pick up on the audio glitches in protocol and it’s so frustrating. i never know they’re there until i come to tumblr and see everyone talking about them. i don’t understand how everyone can hear the glitches but me. every episode i tell myself im going to notice the glitches and then i don’t and i hate it

My friend refuses to listen past season 2 of the Magnus archives, they have listened to the entirety of season 1 and 2 except for the season 2 finale. This friend is the only reason why I started listening to the damn thing in the first place, and now I've finished season 4 and can't talk to them about it because I don't want to ruin it for them

So, I have been giving them "spoilers"

Some of these spoilers include:

Tim gets a boyfriend in season 3 but then cheats on said boyfriend with his sister (the boyfriend's sister, not Tim's)

Elias tells Martin that his father is actually Jeurgen Lightener in front of Jon and Basira

In the season 4 finale Tim and Jon find a tape containing Sasha's voice, this causes them to put aside their differences go back to being friends

And Daisy has eaten horse meat

I have also been interspercing this with some of the more bizarre aspects of cannon, such as notSasha coming back, and Gertrude's cat being killed by the desolation.

I do not intend to stop doing this.

It makes me so angry when people go "my sweet baby could do no wrong" about any of the characters (especially about Martin). Babe the whole podcast happened because these guys were fucking everything up! This isn't a magical princess children's cartoon this is a horror fiction podcast about realistic people with realistic issues! Pleeeease acknowledge that!

Headcanons are alright! Putting them in silly little situations is alright! But you have to acknowledge that these characters can and will make bad choices. They are not all lovey-dovey!

The Magnus Archives is not a sitcom or a romance or a comedy pretty pleeeaase it was funny the first 20 times yall said that now it's just exhausting

Idk if its just my experience but a lot of people will get pressed if your headcanons for the characters dont match the ones popularized by fanon. I will try and have a little fun with them and every time someone will go "uhmm but isn't Basira muslim?" "Isnt Daisy a butch?" "Isn't Jon hindi?" "Isn't Martin blonde?" They dont have an appearance!! This is just what the fandom decided will be their designs! Its not canon in any way!! Let me have fun i beg you

Honestly the protocol has lost its appeal for me the moment more and mo4e connections with tma appeared. It was supposed to be a separate thing if i remember right? And the references are pretty annoying to me and keep me from enjoying the story, esp since everyone in the fandom gets so excited about them. No one talks about the statements anymore

Basira's popularized fanon depiction wearing a hijab feels strange to me. I don't think she'd be the type of person to be religious. It feels like fans heard a southern name and ran with a stereotype. I get that representation is important to you, but representation that sacrifices accurate characterization makes it all feel hollow and meaningless. She's reduced to being a lesbian muslim cop.

helen distortion is evil as hell and does not deserve pity but i felt soooo sad when she got obliterated. i love her so much i can't even put it into words why or what exactly about her i love. i just feel a deep weird connection and love to her despite not relating to her at all. i love her so much guys. i was lowkey mourning when she got ceaseless wachter'd

Listen I love jmart and Martin, I really do. They're really sweet together and Martin is such a fun character. But I hate the way that Martin is just tacked onto other ships that have Jon in. Sometimes I want to read a fic about a pairing that doesn't include Martin but it's like some people are scared to write something that doesn't have the main couple in it. This is especially prominent in rarepairs in the fandom . It gets really frustrating finding a rarepair that has a relatively healthy amount of fics considering it's not popular and then watching that number effectively slice in half once you filter out Jon/Martin & Jon/Martin/whatever other character it is. This works the other way around aswell when trying to look for fics with Martin and partners that aren't Jon.

Anyways this was spurred on by the fact that I'm reading lots of jongerry fics atm and I am getting really annoyed at how many of the fics can't just spare Martin as a main love interest for 5 minutes.

The americanisation of the Magnus archives makes me want to scream. Obviously if you're writing from a different country you're going to get some things wrong about the country you're writing for, but some things have to be obvious, right-? Sometimes the way the characters are written can feel really patronising , like when Americans aestheticize the UK. Like stop it please for the love of god I want to be able to read British characters that feel in character. Fudge details if you have to, or if you want it to be detailed do some research, talk to some people online ,use Google (if you swear in your search meta AI won't show up btw). Just please don't turn the UK into America. Because it isn't .

the general idea i’m seeing that ‘protocol is worse than archives because alex is writing. jonny is the better writer of the two’ is bullshit. alex pushed jonny to actually include michael and make the distortion a recurring thing, he oversaw scripts and he was doing soundscaping and production for like two thirds of it. Alex had plenty of influence on archives, he literally directed the fucking thing, the difference in protocol is that alex is making cases too (which, even then, jonny can offer edits on)

we’re never going to have something that is 100% only jonnys work. thirteen storeys had an editor, jonny can only play the harmonica so i doubt he was solo writing the entirety of the mechs albums, and magnus was never jonny alone- it started because he went to alex for help to make it.

sometimes your fave makes something you don’t like. it happens. stop blaming other people.

Way too many people forget that the headcanons about characters' appearances are only that. Jon isn't south asian. Basira isn't muslim. Georgie isn't black. There isn't a single correct way of viewing those characters. Not everyone will get infected by the fanon brainworm right after they start listening. A certain element of a character's appearance being widely accepted by fans doesn't make it true.

I mean, for God's sake, this is a podcast! The only things canon about the characters are their voices and personalities! You can imagine them however you like!!!! That's what makes it fun!!!

I kinda don't get tma aus that change the personalities of the cast. I understand that this is part of making aus in general, but the thing is, their personalities are basically the only thing we know about the characters (aside from their voices). Changing that makes the characters..... lose their essence? I mean, then they become just some guy. (But somehow in those cases the fanon appearance remains the same, despite being the only thing that's practically unknown to the audience and entirely made up by fans.).

Plus, the story relies on the characters' personalities being the way they were. Changing them would require one to rewrite a huge chunk of the story, if not the entirety of it.
