Results from calling about the refusal to process payments for adult work on itch.io and Steam:

My script in each case hit the points of 'I'm a cardholder calling about the recent refusal of this company to process payments for works deemed adult, particularly in regards to the Steam and itch.io games marketplaces. This has been in response to protests made by a small religious group in Australia. Frankly, I don't find it [company]'s place to dictate how I spend my money, and I'm very concerned that this is in response to protests from a religious group that should have no legal power over me. If this continues I will be seeking an alternate way to make payments and will no longer be a customer of your brand.'

advised to not include any identifying details such as card numbers etc in the email

the phone tree did not have a complaints section so I navigated the options as 'current cardholder' -> 'a question about benefits'

happily took my feedback after confirming my customer details (full name and contact number)

let me know that they had already received significant feedback about this issue and it had been 'escalated' and registered my feedback to add to the pile

I was concerned about feeling awkward about calling a company and basically being like 'yo I'm mad you won't let me buy porn' in terms of I don't think a poor customer service rep should have to deal with that, so I was planning on sprinkling in 'and LGBT content is frequently mislabelled as adult' in my script but I Forgor and it was fine. Each call was <1:30 and minimally painful. If you needed a sign to call, call today! Or, well, maybe email Visa.

Digital extras, urgent (?) itchio/adult works update

Hi!! Digital extras are now available if you bought a physical/digital version of the full book

Secondly, there is a chance that itchio will no longer be viable as a source of adult works. My comics are (currently) still available but as there are cases of others' works already removed, I'd recommend downloading just in case…!

Hi!! This is a (hurried) update to let you know that all the digital extras have been added! See below and the full description of extras!

More importantly, it seems that following the latest trends, there may be a chance NSFW works may be removed from this hosting site -- we will have to see what happens in the future; NSFW and/or queer games etc. may have been delisted, some removed, so I would recommend downloading everything now. My stuff appears to be available on my actual profile for now, but if they are removed, I will find another way to back up these PDFs. In the end, they will always be on my site, so I may have to file host there; if money cannot be exchanged, so be it. :') I am grateful that I can make these works with the money being secondary, but this is still stressful, so I cannot imagine the stress for artists for whom this is their primary job.

Behind the Scenes/postmortem PDF: Recollections from 2021-2025 on making Chapters 1-6, plus the printing + shipping experience after. About 200 pgs of thoughts, process notes, screenshots, wrapups from Patreon (when applicable), silly little autobiographical Mag sketches. This PDF alone is available as pay-what-you-want. Contains some typos and redundant images at times-- I got tired... If/when I clean it up, will post the update here only, for some exclusivity hahaha

things I would do if you're a nsfw/kink creative now because I've been eerily prescient about every single wave:

a) get a personal site with your own domain you own. now. not a carrd or third party squarespace. not next week. now. get it online with ugly-ass html but get your links there.

b) if you have the money: join one or multiple of eff.org / cbldf.org / freespeechcoalition.com

partly because they're actively fighting this, partly because they have members-only Lawyers You Might Need. Hint. Hint. Canary.

c) Write Down Those Lawyer Contact Numbers in meatspace. phone number of a real human being especially on paper, On You.

I have been in contact with lawyers for a few months now as my doujin circle knows. this should be telling you Many Things.

d) www.ecrater.com is where i'm going to be tentatively testing a shop because i like the fact you can *not* have payment processes and order digital/physical products via purely mail order.

(... be prepared for this to fall through too in the next 1-6 months.)

e) friends and followers of nsfw artists who earn most of their income through it: now's the time to support them. they're going to need the grace and financial flexibility especially mental health wise. domain/shop transfer/refund/therapy bills ain't free.

check in on them, and often.

f) get a VPN, use it daily to acclimatize, have them on your hard drive, several VPN's preferable. this is for the age verification laws coming. Start reading up on secure, privacy-focused infrastructure (prioritize email > website > shop in that order).

eff.org has a *ton* of resources.

g) prepare for discord and tumblr to be hit in the next wave. have alternatives *and actively start using them* if they're mission critical platforms for you.

I've played with matrix though I quite fancy IRC. if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I say these things not to fearmonger but to give yourself the maximum amount of time to prepare. the pendulum *will* swing back. it did with the 80's moral panic. it will for this too.

itch is removing all of their adult games now

Oh things are fucking dire huh. There won't be any storefronts left

so itchio has shadowbanned any games tagged with 'nsfw', 'adult', or 'erotic' so they don't show up in searches, and several devs have reported that their r18 games have been removed from the site with no warning

you know, maybe the internet shouldn’t be controlled by payment processors and terf lobbyists. and maybe people should be more concerned about this rise of censorship on queer media.

Look what came!

I love this pairing so much! And I'm so glad @magusculpa put their talent into something like this. The story was so heart felt and beautifully drawn. It's black and white, but there are a few pops of color that are tactfully placed. I was following along with the digital comic and and then it got printed! WHAAAAAT!

Annnd, it came with a sticker sheet!

I got B grade and was told there were errors in the proof but it's just one page printed twice. Not a big deal. I've literally gotten Marvel comics that had a whole page that was typeset incorrectly.
