Assignment 1
Association between physical disabilities and sense of belonging in adolescents
In this project, the AddHealth data set will be used to explore the association between physical disabilities and sense of belonging in adolescents. The hypothesis proposed here is that the presence of physical disabilities in adolescents is related with a decreased social integration.
LITERATURE REVIEW:
According to Stevens et al. (1996), adolescents with physical disabilities experience decreased social integration, as they participate in fewer social activities and have less intimate relationships with their friends. In a recent study, Daley et. al (2018) demonstrate that disabled adolescents experience more discrimination than their healthy peers. Together, these studies suggest that disabled adolescents may experience a decreased sense of belonging.
