it really is insane to me how in the mid 2010s netflix had a reputation of making cool, inclusive series as well as saving tv shows after their networks cancelled them, and now here we are today with every halfway decent netflix original show getting cancelled after 1-2 seasons and a bajillion episodes of bigmouth

Do me a favour and reblog this with a show you like that was cancelled after only one season. I don't mean shows that were always meant to be miniseries or shows that work perfectly well as a standalone story, or shows that might still get renewed. I mean shows that are and will forever remain unfinished. The more obscure the better.

I already have a copy of “Tithe” but this cover was so cool I had to get it. Then I found “Faerie Wars” and “Daughter of Smoke & Bone” in the discount section.

delta slim is the one who teaches sammie about music - about the blues. about how to be a performer, about the cultural importance of music; music as community, music as healing, music as something older and more spiritual and more personal than religion.

annie is the one who teaches sammie about hoodoo and folklore and the kind of things that exist outside of what his father preaches. there is danger out there but it's danger that the people before you have survived, that the people before you have devised protection against, and that protection comes from connection to your community.

smoke is the one who teaches sammie about grief and loss and sacrifice and violence - what do you do in the face of pain? what are you willing to do to get what you want? what are you willing to do to protect the ones you care about, and how are you going to keep going when you can't? when all that's left is you?

and when we see sammie again, he's wearing blue, too. because he's lived a life - a long, and full life - according to the wisdom they taught him.

i think abt the part in the golden compass where it was noted that if your daemon chose to assume the form of a fish or some kind of ocean dwelling creature you could never leave the water again. at best you could dock, maybe walk a bit away from the shore, but that's it. chained to the water because your physical soul form commands it.

One of the funniest little moment in Sinners is when Pearline says Sammie seems like a nice young man, and he responds with “I ain’t always nice. Ain't that young either” and he looks like this –

Elijah letting go of being Smoke to be with his family in the afterlife but Elias not being able to move on so he's wearing the $TACK brass knuckles in 1992... Smoke died so Elijah could be free, but Elias died and Stack is chained to this earth forever......
