Final Outcome Film Presentation

This is my a film presentation of my final outcome- A Social Identity Flip Book. The book is inspired by mix & match books and paper dolls I had as a child, as well as the party game Exquisite Corpse. The book plays with the idea of being able to swap parts of your identity with others.
The first and second chapter are just images of myself through my life, showing how my social identity has changed.
The third and fourth chapter are images of myself, myself dressed as different subcultures and my friends. I wanted to use images of myself dressed up as different social identities to show how easy it is to look completely different just by using hair, makeup and clothing. I wanted images of my friends because that links to the social identity theory that the people you surround yourself has an affect on your identity.
Finally, the “accessories“ chapter, containing acetate sheets with anatomy drawn on. This represents how we are all just human and that although our social identities make us who we are, they are superficial.

I used colleges professional lighting set up for filming similar things. I used a Canon EOS 6D Mark II Body to record.

I made these gloves for my final outcome film. Just white cotton gloves with fake nails. They came out slightly creepier than I intended however I still wanted to use them in my film to add some theatrics. However, I couldn’t turn the pages with the gloves on so I ended up not using them.

Final Labels
Finished the tabs, I used just the labels stuck together. I added a key on the back of the inside cover page.

I am creating a pocket on the inside of the back cover so hold the acetate sheets. It will be labeled “accessories”.

Acetate sheets
I first tried to do my intitial idea to make the acetate pages fit into the spiral but be removable. However I did manage this but it looked messy and I think it would be impractical for an interactive piece. So the acetate pieces are being singular pieces as “accessories” that you can place over the images.

Progress so far
All images cut out and stuck down, pages cut and titles done. I also created some makeshift tabs/dividers stuck down with bluetac, I need to find a better way to make these look professional

I made some mistakes and 2 pages and needed to take them out and replace them. So I had to take the whole book apart again to replace the 2 pages and then put it back together again.

I created the titles for the chapter pages and the inside cover with a label maker. I was planning on writing these with white gel pen, but I really like the look this gives.

Today I almost finished sticking in all of the people. I still have about 5 to print off and stick in. I used the same process as yesterday with cutting and sticking with spray mount.

I had some trouble printing last Friday in college. One of the printers is just bad and the one I was using ran out of toner and was just printing black and white. So I had to print the rest at home which came out stripy on most of the images. So I had to print all of them again today and thankfully the printer was working fine.
I cut the first 2 chapters out and spray mounted them in my book.
