The Big Three 6nen Series

Hello everyone! I’ve been wanting to make a compilation episodes of what I call the infamous “Big Three 6nen Series” of Nintama. Call it what you want, a trilogy, a trio series, but I will simplify it as the Big Three. It’s inspired by one of どっせいさん’s wonderful drawing here. (page 38)

The Big Three 6nen Series are the series which includes all six of 6nen casts plus the main trio (RanKiriShin) with an added bonus of Yamamura Kisanta. Season 16 was the start of it all. However it is divided into three parts which are:

1. The Genkin Series — 厳禁回

Genkin consists of 6nen Igumi Tachibana Senzou, 1nen Hagumi Yamamura Kisanta and 1nen Hagumi Fukutomi Shinbee. Usually in each episode, Senzou goes out for missions while others he does his own work but somehow he never fails to run into these two first-years and they always seem to test out Senzou’s patience. Ironically, Shinbee and Kisanta are both in the Tools Committee who are supposed to fix things and yet they, in every way manage to ruin things for Senzou, even though their only intention is to help their beloved Tachibana-senpai. (Poor Senzou…)

In the second Nintama Rantarou anime movie, Shinbee mentions in his sleeptalk to Senzou “Thank you for always helping us, Tachibana-senpai” and Rantarou said “always?” which I’d like to think is the reference to the Genkin series.

2. The Arbeit (Part-time Job) Series — アルバイト回

Arbeit consists of 6nen Igumi Shioe Monjirou, 6nen Rogumi Nanamatsu Koheita, 6nen Rogumi Nakazaike Chouji and 1nen Hagumi Settsuno Kirimaru. In each episode, the 6nen help Kirimaru with his part-time jobs but at the same time Kirimaru needs to keep an eye on them. It’s also funny because they are, as Kirimaru says “there’s something wrong with your Japanese”, the three people with memorable catchphrases. In other words the gin-ikedon-moso trio.

17-69: 六年生のお留守番の段

18-88: 六年生の海上パトロールの段

19-83: 六年生の団子屋さんの段

20-38: 六年生のお花摘みの段

21-55: 六年生のキノコとりの段

22-39: 六年生の荷物運びの段

23-56: 六年生の梅の実採りの段

Not important but I’d like to point out that even though it is a short appearance, in the second Nintama Rantarou anime movie the three 6nen work together to catch Zattou. Which is a very cool scene if I say so myself.

3. The Roommates (Doushitsu) Series — 同室回

Doushitsu consists of 6nen Hagumi Kema Tomesaburou, 6nen Hagumi Zenpouji Isaku and 1nen Hagumi Inadera Rantarou. The doushitsu series is the only one that starts from season 19 because Tomesaburou and Isaku are not introduced as roommates until later on (please correct me if I’m wrong). They are also the latest 6nen to be introduced to the anime series, their first appearance is in season 16, which is also the start of Genkin and Arbeit Series.

The doushitsu series follows the adventures of Fuun Dai Maou– Great Devil King of Bad Luck (as Rantarou said in 22-06), Zenpouji Isaku doing his Health Committee work with Rantarou as well as trying to overcome his bad luck and his roommate Kema Tomesaburou helping them from time to time. In return, Tomesaburou often having to experience Isaku’s bad luck himself. In these episodes you’ll hear “sumanai, Tomesaburou” (sorry, Tomesaburou), “fuun” (bad luck) and “doushitsu dakara” (we’re roommates, aren’t we?) multiple times.

It's hard to find the detail of the pirates' characters in Nintana.

Hey if by any chance, do you know the pirates? I'm unfamiliar with them

Oh anon you sure you want to ask me this bc man, I love suigun.

Suigun or the translation would be pirates, are a team of pirates based in Hyougo (the prefecture)’s sea area. The model is Murakami Pirates 村上水軍 who were really active during nintama’s timeline (the sengoku/warring states period) and they were really powerful. Their base area were at Seto Inland Sea, that slowly became bigger through the descendants. Even until now, it is said the areas around Ehime and Hiroshima are full of their descendants.

Anyway back to Hyougo suigun they are consisting of 12 people (13 if you count Shirahaemaru, but I’ll get back to this later)

1. Daisankyoueimaru （第三協栄丸） Virgo, A blood type, 36 years old

The captain of the ship, also current leader of hyougo suigun. His grandfather is Daiichikyoueimaru, his dad is dainikyoueimaru. He also has a brother who looks just like him called Daiyonkyoueimaru, who ruled another part of hyougo’s seas. He appeared in nintama really early, in season 1 where he tried to quit being a pirate by becoming a bandit and tried to attack the trio, but they learned that he’s a pirate who can’t swim and gets seasick, so they tried to help him overcome that. He seems useless but the crew looks up very much to him, and while they prefer him to not do any work, they rely on his instructions.

2. Yoshimaru （義丸） B blood type, Libra, 25 years old.

kagiyaku (鉤役), literally smth like anchorman, basically he’s the guy who throws a big hook or anchor (they call sumaru) to pull in the other boat when they’re fighting at sea. When they go out to hunt whales he’s the 4th boat whale killer(?), basically the guy who finishes the hunt off. Yoshi-nii is one of the seniors in suigun, and he’s said to be the most capable. Also in tsudoi notes he’s said to be a lady killer that has a lot of women.

3. Onigumomaru （鬼蜘蛛丸） O blood type 25 years old, Capricorn

Yamadachi (山立ち) he announces the directions that the ship has to go. He has a very bad case of landsickness, but when sprayed with saltwater, he’d be cured from landsickness for a while. In the anime he’s definitely treated as an equal of seaweed. A very capable pirate on the sea. During whale hunts, he acts as the guy who finds whales and points them out from the land. In tsudoi he’s the guy who would marry Kameko-chan (Shinbee’s sister) in the future and share the Fukutomi business. He’s really sweet though like

4. Kagerou (蜉蝣)　Capricorn, blood type A, 31 years old.

Kaji tori 舵取り something like steerer(?). Like Onigumomaru he has really bad landsickness and pukes while on land. On whale hunts he’s the leader of the first boat. In tsudoi it’s said that his left eye got shot with an arrow and when they tried to pull it out his eyeball got stuck with it so now he wears that eyepatch. In anime he’s like Hayate’s bro (refer OP). Also really out of topic but his seiyuu also voices Hotarumaru of Touken Ranbu. (seiyuus are powerful)

5. Hayate (疾風) Scorpion, blood type B, 31 years old.

Tebiki 手引き guide. In whale hunts he’s leader of 2nd boat. He’s really superstitious and scared of ghosts and ghost stories. Has a bro relationship with Kagerou. They really can’t change his superstitious ways (pirates are superstitious in the first place).

6. Yurashirou 由良四朗　cancer, O blood type, 29 years old.

船頭 boat leader. Seems strict but he’s really kind and nice. Yamadachi, kajitori, sentou and tebiki are called the shikou 四功 (4 oppositions) in handling a boat.

7. Miyoshimaru 舳丸　Virgo, AB blood type, 23 years old

水練 swimmer (hyougo suigun’s best) in whale hunts he’s a boat rower. He looks really angry all the time and doesn’t smiles. Basically really doesn’t actually have any ill feelings. In the 2nd year drama CD he scared Saburouji by looking menacing that Saburouji cried, and he felt bad about it that he bought the buckets they were selling at a high price. Shige’s sempai.

8. Shige 重 Leo, O blood type, 18 years old.

水練 swimmer. in whale hunts he’s a boat rower. Opposite of Miyo-nii he smiles and laughs a lot. He likes to joke and play with the nintama and in the drama CD he plays with the buckets with the 2nd years. He knows that Miyoshimaru really doesn’t get angry most of the time.

I can’t find a picture of kawara alone??? what is this enigma??? but in this picture he’s the one who’s not magiri or atoi or kagerou

9. Kawara 航　Leo, O blood type, 17 years old

Rower. He rows the same side with Yamaji. Really happy go lucky and capable. Friendly with nintamas and suigun comrades. In the anime he’s like Yamaji’s kouhai.

10. Magiri 間切 Pisces, blood type A, 18 years old.

Rower. He rows the same side with Atoi. Has a very bad case of landsickness. Atoi and him are bros. His hair is in very bad condition. Becomes the target of Takamaru at one point.

11. Yamaji 東南風 Aquarius, blood type O 19 years old.

Rower. In whale hunts he’s the young leader for the 8th boat. The eldest of suigun high teens. Doesn’t really smile or talk a lot, preferring to do work, but is not as unfriendly or menacing as Miyoshimaru. He lost his parents when he was young due to waves that was caused by strong wind (this wind is called yamaji) and got taken in by Daisankyoueimaru. In tsudoi, it is said that Yamaji is very talented and capable, but is not interested in getting ahead at work or promotions.

12. Atoi 網問 Gemini, blood type B, 16 years old.

Rower. A descendent of the Ainu, his name means sea in Ainu language. In tsudoi, he’s described to be very tall (as the norm of Ainu people), over 180 cm.In tsudoi it is also described that he thinks of himself as cute (pffffffft). Cheeky and plays around with his sempais a lot. He uses Onigumomaru’s vomit as fish bait.

13. Shirahaemaru 白南風丸 ??????

He appeared really late only recently at season 20. a pirate that is really slow on promotions. In the recent suigun arc, he finally got himself a mikakushi tate yaku (something like the guard for kagiyaku) pre-license. Just like Daisankyoueimaru he has sea sickness and can only kick swim.

I’m sorry this is very badly done but like I’m in a hurry and my computer can’t seem to hold on long it’s been crashing a lot lately everyday is a battle. I hope this is a good enough introduction?? If anyone has anything they’d like to add feel free to do so. I’m pretty sure a lot of people have a ton of better caps than me;;;
