i've been suffering a lot of skin issues lately and feeling some grief about it. my meat sack is peppered with itchy little wounds! and i, an inveterate skin picker, have made some much worse. drawing self-portraits continues to be one large way that i'm able to accept my current state while my skin heals. somehow i feel so much better when drawing the scars by my own hand-- it facilitates the process for me more than any cellphone selfie ever could. (also, i continue my back fat studies!)

i can never draw anything with a straight face yeah cuz am gay badum tsss BUT joking aside i came away from today's drawing session believing in the POWER OF ARTMAKING and why we as people of various inclinations and skills and interests must continue to cherish this human vibe to create, think, dream and transform materials and ideas with all that we have, and protect it from forces that would have us be husks of conformity, blandness and obedience. i say this as someone who is only finding their feet in the depths of what i want to express. i know i will yet to uncover the rest of what this journey has to offer me. to be creative is to solve and build and love. be it illustration, embroidery, collage, filmmaking, cooking, childrearing, being creative means an endless collaborative relationship with who you are, the world you are in, the great or mundane stories you want to tell and the ability to dream beyond what seems possible right now. it's HARD, sometimes, i know this, and it seems it will be harder. but never stop, please. crawl and move through the shame, start with the smallest muster, remember we are many, we are all trying. don't stop. go on, i love you.

We need to talk about tumblr's systematic fatphobia.

Posts of fat people are being marked as "sexual content" even more frequently than they used to, but now we have this fun little addition as brought to my attention by a friend;

That's right. Not just blatant kink-shaming, but now, if you make posts about or with fat people, you can now be flagged as "promoting disordered eating"! Multiple completely innocent posts of fat people literally just existing in their own bodies have already been flagged this way.

Raise hell about it. Reblog and share fat content more than ever. Don't let this shitty website tell you that your bodies are "wrong" or that you aren't allowed to exist publicly.

Tumblr staff, if you care about eating disorders (you fucking don't), stop promoting this sense of shame and fear and disgust towards the idea of weight gain. Stop shaming and censoring people for posting about their own bodies and experiences. Fatphobia kills. Fatphobia causes disordered eating. Fatphobia is the disease you should be worried about.

This has also been disproportionately affecting fat trans people, because of course it has.

Don't stop talking about it. Don't let this bullshit ceo silence you.

i was thinking about the following things as i was drawing this: tumblr circa 2015, improbable swimsuits, and... vampires i guess? also i made the underlying sketch for this in 2022. i guess it needed to be the dead of winter 2025 for me to get to it
