- How is life at university?

Well…I was worried at the beginning, but the classes are interesting, and I made new friends, so I’m enjoying it every day. I was surprised to find out about extension programs where I can attend lectures at many different universities and not just at the one I’m enrolled in.

- How is your part-time job that you’ve just started?

It’s really fun spending time with the children. I’m in charge of the intermediate class where many kids, like Misaki-kun, already know how to swim. When I was helping out with coaching at Iwatobi, I looked after children in the beginners class, who were just getting used to being in water, like Hayato-kun. They are both swimming classes, but the children’s reactions are all different. There are really many layers to it, and I really enjoy working at my part-time job.

- Do you still keep in touch with your friends at Iwatobi Town?

Yes! Oh, but, even though I’m just replying to them normally, for some reason, I was told by Nagisa that I was “cold”… in the end, I always get tired of typing and calls them instead. Haru almost never answers his phone when I call, so it’s easier to stop by at his place after my part-time job, and Nagisa, I think we talk on the phone more lately? With Rin, there’s a time difference, so I use the messaging app. As for my family, I call them on the phone…it’s not too different from before, actually.

>>> Middle School Memories (Makoto & Haruka)

Makoto: Middle school first year, huh… Haru and I have always been together, so sometimes I don’t even know when some of our memories are from.

Haruka: I think Makoto and I going to each other’s home is what I remember most.

Makoto: Yeah, you’re right. I spent a lot of time with Haru at school and club activities, but we used to hang out lots at home, too.

Haruka: We’ve been doing it since we were young, that’s why. It hasn’t changed, even now.

Makoto: Hehe, that’s true. The futon mattress you use when you stay over is still in my room at Iwatobi. You’ve also left your toothbrush there.

Haruka: Speaking of which, my mom was organizing our photo albums, and apparently she found out that you’ve been using the same towel at my house since you were 3 years old.

Makoto: Eeeh, really!? That one with the stripes, right?

Haruka: Yeah.

Makoto: Really. It certainly brings back memories! I used it lots. Ah, speaking of sleepovers, Asahi, Ikuya and I invited ourselves to you home once, didn’t we!? I think it was then, when you started taking an interest in cooking.

Haruka: Is that so…? At the time, Makoto…all you did was boil water.

Makoto: A-ahahaha…b-but, I can cook eggs sunny-side up now!

Haruka: Did you know how many times it took to teach you? When you were crushing all the eggs in your hand instead of cracking them, I was ready to give up.

Makoto: It’s hard to judge how much strength I need to crack an egg…! But recently, I didn’t mess up and was even able to make enough for Nagisa and the others. Hehe, thanks Haru, it’s all because of you!

Theme 03: “What’s a surprising side of him?”

Asahi: Makoto’s surprising side…? He a super nice guy and he looks it, so I can’t really think of anything. What about you, Nao-senpai?

Nao: Huh? But there’s nothing surprising about Makoto. What you see is what you get.

Asahi: That’s right~!

Nao: He’s prudent, but also daring, and very stubborn.

Asahi: Huh?

Nao: Plus he’s competitive and uninhibited.

Asahi: EEH!??

Nao: Seriously, he’s just like Haruka in that sense.

Asahi: ??? I-I’ve never thought of Makoto like that…

Nao: Really? Also, he can be a little bit of a scatterbrain.

Asahi: Ah, that I kinda get…probably.

Nao: A while back, we went home together after our part-time job.

Asahi: Did he leave something behind?

Nao: No, but Makoto was looking for his smartphone, and what he took out from his bag was an air conditioning remote control…

Asahi: Bwahahahaha! S-seriously!? A remote control…!

Nao: It was pretty surreal, seeing an ac remote control in the train.

Asahi: Even *I* have never mistaken a remote control for a smartphone!

Nao: Asahi, you’re laughing hard now, but I’m sure you’ve made similar mistakes, too?

Asahi: I-I’ve been good lately! I didn’t try to use my student ID card to enter the train station, thinking it’s my transportation card!!

Nao: Oooh…I see…

01 Powerful Swimming Style Contrary to his gentle appearance, his swimming style capitalizes on his physique and is hearty and strong. You can even compare his swimming to an orca’s. He’s grown rapidly since primary school through middle school! Has the baby orca that used to be smaller than a dolphin become king of the ocean!?

02 A dream he finally sees As an extension of his dream to show children the joy of swimming, he found his path as a trainer. He’s now working vigorously towards his goal!

03 He loves games He likes games, and he’s especially good at shooting games. Except for scary games such as horror, they’re a no-go! When he plays games he would wear his glasses and switch to hardcore mode!

04 Everybody loves Mako-chan He’s super popular in his neighborhood, from children to grandmas! He’s received countless treats on his way to his part-time job or school. The line-up of treats is rather old fashioned, such as dried squid, dried fish and manjuu.

05 Connect people together He doesn’t like it when people get into fights or become awkward around each other. In high school, he worried about Rin, and in university, he tried to mediate Ikuya and Hiyori’s relationship with Haruka. He’s always busy with these things in his heart!

06 Ordinary imagination? He’s the type who can’t come up with any outstanding ideas even after thinking long and hard! Coupled with the fact that he’s not good at handling unexpected situations, he was once told by Nagisa that his ideas were “ordinary”…

07 Extraordinary clumsiness He’s your typical clumsy guy that mistakes sugar for salt and draws art that gets comments like “it’s kinda meh.”

08 He’s strict at times! It’s important to follow rules at the swimming pool where dangers lurk! He’s able to kindly but strictly caution people that “no means no.”

09 He’s very curious about fashion He’s the type who naturally follows fashion trends, and his clothes are all chosen from magazines! He especially likes bright colors such as orange or yellow-green.

Haruka: That Is Amazing

Rei: We’ve used the drawing of Iwatobi-chan that Haruka-senpai left behind to measure the width, height depth and such, as well as the smallest details, and recreated it meticulously!

Haruka: The Face Looks Good

Makoto: You are all so skilled, it’s amazing~!

Nagisa: Yay~! Romi-chan and the others will be so happy when I tell them~!!

Makoto: Is everyone doing well?

Nagisa: Yeah! I told you about how recently, right before the Nationals, the Iwatobi Swimming Club had an unprecedented seaweed craze, right?

Makoto: The ones that Shizuru-chan brought over?

Rei: Yes…he’d bring his own seaweed every day, and thanks to the lectures he gives on how each different type tastes differently, we’ve all become quite knowledgable in seaweed.

Nagisa: Rei-chan eats so much of it!

Rei: Not as much as you do, Nagisa-kun!

Nagisa: 😜

Nagisa: Shizu-chan is kinda like Haru-chan~

Haruka: Is That So?

Makoto: I think I know what you mean.

Nagisa: Haru-chan would also bring his own mackerel if there is none☆
