the silence in the car was thick, palpable,  almost painful.  rikki’s playlist played on the radio, handpicked just for  this very trip.�� but the mermaid quickly learned that a simple playlist wasn’t going to be enough for her–LONG ENOUGH  for the entire drive to sydney or  LOUD ENOUGH  to drown out her thoughts about the man beside her.

“ so lewis, ”  nonchalance comes easily for rikki,  despite  the fact that the only thing on her mind was the memories of  THAT  night with lewis. it wasn’t even  that  long ago, but ever since then, she hasn’t been the same. she offers him a lazy smile to complete the carefree look, even if his gaze was fixated on the long road ahead of them.  “ can i interest you in a snack? or a refreshment? i packed  plenty. ”

so lizzie saltzman  DIDN’T CARE  about their social statuses, to her surprise.  it looks like  rikki  was the one who had  her  pegged wrong.  lizzie seemed like the type to only be concerned with keeping up appearances, something rikki could never stand.  still,  mermaids or not,  rikki wasn’t convinced lizzie’s personality changed  just like that  overnight. 

“ oh, i’m enjoying myself alright, ”  she jibed.   for the record,  rikki  was  the rule-breaker type, but she didn’t need to prove that.  “ i’m just merely stating  the facts,  saltzman.  you can drop the game.  you and i  both  know  how much  you care about what other people think.  hanging out with someone like me would be a social nightmare for someone like you. ”

bare feet padded along the sand, flip flops in hand, as the mermaid made way to her secluded spot of the shore.  she only had  one thing  on the agenda today--swimming--but was pleasantly surprised at the sight of someone already there.  his back was to her as he faced the sea, but rikki  instantly  recognized her friend  will. 

“ you know, ”  rikki called out from a few paces behind where he stood, a playful smile stretching across her features,  “ i thought you were avoiding me  all week.   but  clearly  can’t be true since you’re hanging out in  MY  favorite spot. ”

Toes  curled  down,  hugging  the  small  pebbles  of  coarse  sand  under  his  feet.  Waves  of  salty  brisk  water  rushed  forward  and  crashed  against  his  ankles.  His  hands  were  resting  in  the  pockets  of  his  dark  blue  jeans,  leaning  easy  against  the  fabric  like  his  body  held  no  weight  at  all.  Everything  around  him  had  disappeared,  completely cleared  itself  from  his  mind.  And  the  longer  he  stood  still,  warm  eyes  gazing  down  at  the  water  coming  back  and  forth,  the  more  he  lost  himself  in  thought.  It  could  have  been  risky,  letting  his  mind  wander  when  so  much  power  existed  at  the  base  of  his  being.  But  was  he  really  that  volatile?  Couldn’t  he,  just  for  once,  not  think  about  anything?

      THE EVENING AIR WAS WARM.  Cat was straddled upon a high, brick wall in the park.  It wasn’t the most comfortable of spots, but she liked being able to watch the stragglers make their way home.  Then followed by those who were out for the PARTIES, scanty clothes, alcohol on their breaths, and wild eyes.  The entertainment they provided was better than most television shows… granted, she didn’t exactly watch any, so perhaps it wasn’t fair of her to compare.  In the sort of world she existed, it was the b e s t she was going to get.

                    Green eyes spied a figure making their way.  Familiar.  Behind her?  Someone not so much.  Head tilted as the street rat kept her gaze on the one pursuing, noting that they watched Rikki intently, keeping mind to the distance between them, the pace, and tried to seem casual whilst staring her down.  A tremor ran up Cat’s spine, causing hair to feel as though it was on end, but she did nothing until the blonde was close enough to be in ear shot.  “Need me t’fuck up the stalker you got there or do you know ‘em?”

       She knew the other teen was plenty independent, but the tone of voice was loud enough to be heard, i n t e n t i o n a l l y trying to give the creep warning.  Either they keep up what they were doing or they were about to face some wrath now that they had been noticed.

the party rikki went to that night was  a total bust  for a number of reasons.  and she didn’t even get drunk.  a total  w a s t e  of time.  which is why rikki was leaving the party early and going to meet up with someone who  was  actually worth her time: cat. 

when the mermaid spotted cat, she smiled.  but when cat didn’t return the gesture, she realized the other girl was  glaring  at something behind her.  the smile fell from rikki’s features and slowed in her step cautiously.  when cat called out to her--or rather  her stalker--rikki froze on the spot. 

her shoulders immediately tensed but she forced herself to look over to see whom cat was referring to.   a man,  older, much taller, definitely would’ve intimidated a lot of girls,  but rikki and cat were not the types to be easily intimidated.   rikki actually  recognized  the man.  he was from the party, could  not  handle his liquor as well as he boasted, and was definitely one of the reasons why rikki ditched the party in the first place.  clearly, the first time rikki said  ‘ no ’  didn’t take. 

“ long story: yes.  short story:  no,  i don’t know him, ” rikki replied to cat, equally as loud.  she kept her eyes on the man as she slowly made her way towards cat, her fingers anxiously curling and uncurling at her sides, ready to strike.  “ i already told this guy  o n c e  to leave me  alone. ”

give me a plot with two established adults. (older muses… i love them.) our muses dated in college, but muse a ended the relationship because they were super smart and ready for success in life, whereas muse b was kind of a deadbeat & immature and had no direction in life. fast forward x amount of years. muse b’s coworker says they have the perfect match for them and sets them up on a blind date. you guessed it - yes. it’s muse a. now, the tables have reversed and muse b is successful (maybe like a restaurant owner) and muse a just got out of a relationship, lost their job, etc. awkward.

tragic aesthetic sentence starters

there was  brokenness  in clementine’s voice and the sound had rikki tightening her grip around the other girl’s waist.  at first, rikki didn’t know  what  to do or say to clem to pull her out of such an enraged state.  she wrapped her arms around clem from behind and  held her  until she settled, but didn’t relax yet. 

“ i know, ”  came rikki’s soft reply.  she lifted her head from being pressed against clem’s shoulder speak more clearly.  “  trust me,  i know.  you get filled with  so much anger  that you just don’t know what to do with yourself.  you feel like you’re going to  explode  if you don’t let it out.  and that’s all you can do.  just let it out--let it all out. ”  rikki loosened her grip around clem’s waist, in case clem wanted to pull away, but didn’t let go, signifying that she’s  here,  and she’s not leaving anytime soon.
