Second chapter up. This was fun to write and correct :) But the next chapter is barely started, so I better roll up my sleeves now. Did I mention we have a brand new puppy that is taking up 99% of my time? No? We have a brand new puppy that is taking up 99% of my time because as a family we are totally mental. All to say, not sure when chapter 3 will be out, but we’ll get there eventually...

Now I need to go, my two old dogs (who no longer remember what it was like to be young at this point) are about to murder the newcomer if the puppy continues to use their heads as trampolines.

A handsome prince. A moonlit lake. A beautiful pr-... another handsome prince, rather (this is an open minded story, after all) cursed to spend each day as a swan until true love will set him free. A tale as old as time. A romance for the ages.

Or that’s the idea, but when Prince Dean of Lawrence is the would-be rescuer, fairy-tales go off the rails more times than not.

Yay, I’m back! I finally kicked my rear in gear thanks to the $ficfacer2021 challenge (thanks, Cutelittlekitty and MalMuses!) and started writing again. And it’s as much hard fun as I remember. But in a good way! 

So, first chapter of a 3 parter (probably a 3 parter) based on my usual approach to fairy tales, which is to let Dean and Sam ambush them and unload a clip into their unsuspecting rears. Enjoy!

Hey, at least I’m writing again. I’m doing a fairy-tale riff on Swan Lake, with the kind of irreverent wth attitude in which I wrote ´Romance of the daisy´and ´burden of your gratitude´, so we’ll see what happens. 

In other news, there´s still a couple of days left on ficfacers auction to bid on a whole mass of talented artists, all for Random Acts. Come and give me a good excuse to write :)

Me of five minutes ago: I’ve had a few days away from the internet and fandoms and stuff for a bit of mental well being and R&R, but time to pop back. I probably didn’t miss much.

Present time me: Runs screaming towards the door.

there’s just. there’s just so much to unpack here. I mean:

- jensen emphasising this is the FIRST story he wants to tell about the spn verse (read: the destiel spin off is coming)

- chaos machine's new pride icon

- misha joking the prequel needs a trench-coated angel, which, based on historical data, only means one thing: the prequel absolutely has a trench-coated angel in it (our favourite one with the rainbow wings and squinty eyes, to be specific)

- kripke causing multiple social media platforms to explode by liking said tweet

- jared hearing about the prequel for the first time on twitter at the same time as the rest of us

- misha absolutely not hearing about the prequel for the first time on twitter at the same time as the rest of us

- the entirety of tumblr and twitter trying to fathom why jensen decided to make a show about a character the whole spn fandom have spent fifteen years wanting to punch very hard in the face

- hot topics include: will john's shitty actions be ignored or explored? is the prequel really just a cover for a destiel spinoff?? or just an elaborate and expensive method of ensuring cas finally, in some universe, gets to smite john?

- rowena considered for the prequel but not sam

- it becomes clear danneel and jensen knew EXACTLY what they were doing when they named their production company "chaos machine"

- et tu brute, gutted, bummed

- the increasingly likely possibility that the french mistake and the mockumentary were actually prophetic visions (related: someone check on misha)

- bobo berens and kripke add more fuel to the twittersphere fire

- most of the fandom yelling "fight, fight, fight" at the cast of their favourite show six months after it ending

- a complete, collective tumblr meltdown as fires that have been brewing in opposing corners of the fandom for over a decade implode into either vindication or denial

- unprecedented scenes in fandom history as self-confessed ex-j2 stans quietly let themselves into the cockles trash dumpster

- the realisation that jensen has been plotting this for months (important questions: how long has he known? when they were filming the finale?? at the creation con panel? is this what was going on under all that sexy silence???)

- most of tumblr on tenterhooks simply from watching two middle aged men follow and unfollow each other on twitter

- the fact there are still conventions booked and j2 panels that are absolutely going to happen after all of this

- no one knows if biden is okay

Yeah, I should have posted this during mental health awareness month. Blame the depression.

How’s it going, everyone? Long time, no words. 

I’m hoping my tumblr is going to finally see a bit of action in the coming weeks! We’ve been dealing in house with a mental health issue which has been coming along for a couple of years now, but which the pandemic made five times worse and more complicated, like it did most things...  I’m talking the kind of mental health issue where I now know which of the nearest hospitals has a 24 hour suicide hold facility, though thank the universe we’ve not needed it yet and hopefully never will...

The stress of it all found its way into my own foundations where it caused a crack, as happens. As happens a lot. One in five adults in our countries live with a mental health issue, while almost half the population will at some point in their life experience it at least once. The last few months haven’t been pretty, but I did the hard thing, and the necessary thing: I got help. This is something that doesn’t happen enough because despite the statistics I mentioned above, there is still too much stigma attached to mental illness. I’m not weak for having cracked under the pressure (I tell my own demons and also some of my boneheaded nearest and dearest), I am simply human. Some people are mentally stronger than others, in the same way some have genes that can make them more resistant to cancer; it’s a good thing to have, sure, but it’s not actually a testament to character, it’s just something they’re born with and have perhaps enhanced with clean living and exercise. Having snapped under some serious pressure is not a shame, it’s just a facet of who I am, as is the compassion and empathy which helped the other person in our family work their way through the crap life throws at us - and I would do it all again in a heartbeat. And since we need to seriously destigmatize this shit, my newfound greeting to friends and family has currently become, “hi there, I’m under anti-depressants! Yup, doing fine. So, how’s it going on your end?”

Anyhoo, I am finally pulling myself out from the sarcophagus Ive been living in since shortly after Christmas, and I even feel like writing again. I’m going to start challenging that blank page again soon, and at this point, between the surges of life-long anger, happiness that everyone in the family is doing better, and the drugs, who the fuck knows what will come out the other end? 

(By a happy coincidence, $ficfacers is about to start its auction tomorrow, and I’m hoping for a bid that will give me a prompt and a kick in the pants to start writing, all for a good cause.)

Long time, no words, and the motto of this tumblr is ‘I love words’, so that’s not been a good sign... That’s what depression and anxiety do, they rob you of your words and isolate you. Just be sure that the one word they don’t strip from you is ‘help’, because it’s your sword and shield, and there is no shame attached to that word, whatever your demons or some people may insinuate. There’s nothing wrong with you fundamentally. You’ll be alright. Find the person you need to find and say the word, ‘Help’. It gets better, I promise.

Long time, no words, but that’s going to change.

angels, deciding what shape to take when interacting with The Humans: well….eye contact is important to humans, right? they find it reassuring when they can see the eyes of the person they’re talking to. so if we have LOTS of eyes, in very visible places, that’ll be even MORE reassuring

Hey, take it from someone creeping towards 40:

Ignore the fun police.

If you like it, order your steak well done. Get your bagel toasted with jam and butter. Put ice in your scotch and ketchup on your hotdog. Get red wine with fish and white with steak. Who cares?

If you want to, listen to pop music. Watch blockbuster popcorn flicks. Read dime store novels. Enjoy them.

Dye your hair or cut it off. Paint your fingernails blue. Wear whatever the fuck you want on your own time (ie, when not at a job or school or whatever where you can get penalized for breaking rules) as long as you aren’t like welding or shoveling snow.

Anyone who tries to tell you you’re wrong? Say “okay” and go back to what you were doing. You’re not hurting them by enjoying yourself or having things the way you like them.

There are no caveats or addendums to this. No “but what about x?” Nah. You’re allowed the things you like. You don’t have to justify your taste or apologize for it if it’s not hurting anyone.

And likewise, let other people live their lives. We’re all dead in the long run, so tend your own garden before you become fertilizer in it.
