Tumblr media
It was the best summer you could have asked for.
All your friends had decided to spend your last summer before graduation at one of your estates; one located in a small yet beautiful muggle town where no one knew of your identities.
Your big and empty villa helped everyone have their own space. Yet you had spent every waking moment making more fun memories and getting close to your friends, especially Theodore.
Even yesterday, the two of you went out to the nearby beach and returned drenched from the ocean water and rain combined, forgetting to bring spare clothes to the spontaneous trip. Your friends didn’t bat an eye when the two of you returned like wet dogs, knowing it was normal for you two to go on your own adventures.
Today marked the final three days before summer ended before you had to return to Hogwarts for your seventh year.
The sun was starting to set, painting the sky with pastel colors, and a gentle breeze carried the scent of ash from the bonfire that Mattheo and Blaise had started. Your group had recently learned of a muggle snack called Smores, so everyone found a spot around the fire, trying to make the treat for the first time.
“We should all go out to the town bar later tonight since it’s better to be hungover tomorrow than the last day,” Draco suggested, leaning back in his seat as you took a bite out of the dessert. You leaned over to Theodore, who shared the spacious seat with you, letting him take a bite too.
"That’s a brilliant idea, it's our last night to drink before we start the semester,” Mattheo agreed, nodding along with what most of the group was thinking.
Theodore shifted next to you, leaning down on your shoulder while speaking up, “I’m feeling a bit under the weather, so go without me.”
You looked at your best friend closely, not realizing sooner that he had felt sick today.
"Did you catch a cold from yesterday?” Pansy inquired, reaching over to one of the plates to grab some graham crackers. There were many plates sprawled out over the side tables filled with crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate bars.
You felt Theodore nod next to you, "Yeah, I think it’s from the rain yesterday, I’ll be fine though. You guys go without me,” Theodore reassured, popping a marshmallow into his mouth.
“I’ll come to pick you up if you want to head back early from the bar later,” He spoke with his mouth full, making you laugh as you could barely make out his sentence.
After he finished eating the marshmallow, he placed his arm around your waist, pulling you closer. “Thanks, Theo,” You said before taking the last bite of your Smore.
He smiled brightly at you before the group soon fell into different topics.
You eventually got up from your seat, walking over to the girls to listen to the latest gossip that Pansy heard through the grapevine.
However, a conversation caught the attention of everyone.
“You're going to go abroad?” Lorenzo's eyes widened at Theodore's announcement, causing a hush to fall over the group.
You turned straight to where you were previously sitting. Blaise was the next to speak, “Mate, when was this decided?” Everyone waited for Theodore’s response while your nervousness suddenly kicked in.
Sure, none of you verbally discussed your future after Hogwarts, but it was a silent agreement assumption that all your friends would settle down nearby.
“I’m planning on going to the States for a while, nothing is set yet though.”
Your heart sank as you watched Theodore's gaze meet yours, his expression a mixture of regret and apprehension.
"When were you going to tell us?” You questioned, still shocked by this announcement.
He looked down at his hands, feeling ashamed for keeping this from everyone, especially you.
“i just didn’t know when to bring it up, so thanks Enz,” Theodore glared at Lorenzo, “For dropping the bomb like this.” He spoke sarcastically at the boy who sighed.
Astoria tried to lighten the mood, noticing the frown on your lips, “Draco, aren’t you going to London after we graduate?”
The conversation shifted to Draco’s plans to study in university longer to become a healer before the group shifted to another topic.
You couldn’t focus after hearing about Theodore’s future plans being abroad, meaning it would get hard to see him.
But why were you worried when he was just your best friend?
“Hey, can you both go inside and help me get more ingredients?” Pansy asked you and Astoria loudly, the two of you agreed to go inside for a moment.
“So, are you going to tell Theo?” Astoria looked at you, curiosity playing in her eyes. She walked over to the shopping bags on the kitchen island to grab more chocolate bars.
“Tell Theo what?” You stare at her with confusion, walking over to your pantry to grab the marshmallow bags. Pansy sighed, setting out more plates for the ingredients on the counter.
“Are you going to tell Theo that you like him?” You froze your actions for a second, standing in the middle of the kitchen with the marshmallow bag in your arms.
“What do you mean? We're just best friends.” You wave them off and open the bag.
Astoria slaps a hand to her forehead, “Yeah, but you fancied him for years! Also, the two of you have been hanging out every single day of our summer. What two best friends don’t get sick of each other and act like a couple?”
“Two blind idiots, that is.” Pansy finishes Astoria’s question, right as you finish pouring the marshmallows.
You sigh, “Okay, sure I fancy Theo. But you guys just heard that he’s leaving for the states after graduation. I won’t even see him, so it’s hopeless.”
You felt yourself getting more upset at the idea that Theodore didn’t tell you before, “Why did he hide that information though?”
Astoria walked around the kitchen island to comfort you, a hand resting on your back. "You know, it’s okay if you do end up confessing to Theo. We still have one year at school together,” Astoria comforted you.
Pansy picks up the plates you filled and sets it on the island, “Also, didn’t you hear when he said it’s not set yet? He might not go abroad, who knows?”
You turn around and grab the plates, walking towards the door to go back outside, “It's useless, he doesn’t like me back. Let's just forget this happened.”
Tumblr media
A few hours later, you sat in a booth at the town’s muggle bar with everyone except Theodore.
The muggle bar was bustling with activity, filled with the raucous sounds of drunken laughter and the rhythmic beat of music from the large speakers. Your group opted to sit in the big booth instead, the furthest away from the commotion. This was more fun as it was similar to what you did at parties back at Hogwarts.
In front of you laid three empty pitchers, once full of dirty shirleys, the alcohol gone in two hours due to your rushed drinking.
“Can someone drink the rest of my vodka cran?” Astoria asked, leaning into Blaise’s shoulder. Everyone chuckled at her behavior, knowing Astoria was always the first one to get tired while drinking.
Blaise pushed her cup towards Mattheo, who gladly accepted the drink for himself. Most of your friends had a high alcohol tolerance, so it was expected to drink for hours.
“It’s okay, you can close your eyes for a bit,” Blaise spoke while looking down at Astoria with adoring eyes. The entire group saw the interaction, feeling bittersweet about the affectionate couple in your friend group.
“Salazar, if only I had a boyfriend who would watch me while I'm out drinking,” You spoke while grabbing Astoria’s—now Mattheo’s, drink and chugging it down.
Everyone was taken aback by your action because this was not how you usually acted during the many years of drinking with you.
“You do have someone who takes care of you every time you drink.” Draco reminds you while pushing the vodka cranberry away from you.
You stare at Draco with wide eyes, “No, Dray, Theo only sees me as a friend.” You let out a dramatic sigh and your friends laugh at your obvious crush, which only Theodore hasn’t picked up on yet.
Draco puts his hands up in surrender, but with his signature smirk, “I didn’t even have to say his name for you to talk about him, huh?”
“Theodore Nott, my best friend, does not like me.” You groan while putting your hands on your eyes and leaning back in the comfortable seat.
Tears welled up in your eyes, catching everyone off guard as your emotions spilled over. “Guys, Thor’s going to leave for the States. How will I see him when he’s abroad for Merlin knows how long?”
Pansy started to pass your napkins to wipe away your tears, while Lorenzo took out his phone. “I’m going to text Theo to pick her up.”
Pansy nodded at Lorenzo before looking at you in pity, “Yeah, she’s going to be out soon.”
Everyone kept their gaze on you as your tears eventually stopped falling. “Rest your head and sleep a little.” Mattheo spoke while moving your head to his shoulder while you closed your eyes.
Seeing your eyes closed, Draco twirled the black straw in his cup, “So when do you guys think they’re going to get together?”
Pansy chuckled at the comment, taking out her phone to snap a few photos of you for memory's sake. “First week after we get back to school, I’ll bet on it.”
"I say in one day,” Mattheo chimed in with a grin, resuming the conversation while you rested.
Tumblr media
"Theodore!” You exclaim while running to your best friend. You pull him into a hug while breaking into a big smile, Theodore laughing at your drunk state.
Theodore waves behind you to say goodbye to Mattheo and Pansy, who walked you outside the building. Everyone else planned to stay longer at the bar.
The fresh cold breeze greeted you as you stepped outside, causing you to shiver lightly for not dressing for the weather.
Theodore quickly draped his hoodie over your head, the fabric offering warmth against the chilly evening air.
The cold breeze nipped at your skin, causing goosebumps to form as you wrapped Theodore’s hoodie tighter around yourself.
Theodore quickly found your hand and intertwined it, a smile reaching both of your faces. The two of you walked back to the villa in comfortable silence.
It was a short walk back and when you arrived, you excitedly pulled Theodore to your spot.
You had told Theodore about the garden kept away in the gates in the back of your villa, hanging out many times during your stay. You decided to keep the garden a secret, wanting it to be your little hideout.
“Did you have a fun time?” Theodore asks first, walking towards the white bench placed in the garden.
You shake your head, staring at your connected hands,“No, Blaise and Astoria were being so cute it made me sad.”
Theodore frowned, pulling you to sit down next to him. Your connected hands were placed on his lap.
“It’s okay, you can tell me anything” Theodore reassured, unsure if you would open up to him while being drunk. He knew the walk back would sober you up a bit, but not completely.
“It’s just,” You stopped to think about your next words while Theodore waited for you to continue.
“Never mind, I’m fine.”
“But that’s not true.”
Theodore’s gaze bore into your own, not making any effort to move. The moonlight cast a soft glow over Theodore's features, illuminating his face as he looked at you with a mixture of concern and affection.
"Let’s just go inside,” You suggest, standing up from the bench and pulling his hand.
“Did you cry?” Theodore asks, being able to see your face more clearly after you’ve stood up.
Theodore rose and cupped a hand on your face, tracing over your cheeks. “Why did you cry?”
You place a hand over his hand, moving it away from his face. “This,” You break free from his hold completely and take a step to create space away from him, “Theo, this is why I cried. You’re the reason that I cried.”
Theodore stares at you without saying anything, making you more frustrated.
“Theo, I love you, isn’t that the worst thing you’ve ever heard?” You yell your confession, finally voicing the feelings you’ve kept from him. Your heart raced as you finally voiced the feelings you had kept hidden for so long, the weight of your confession hanging in the air.
Theodore had a devious grin on his face, his laughter echoing in the quiet garden as he pulled you into a reassuring hug. “That’s the best thing I’ve heard in my life.”
You stand there shocked at his actions, “No,” You mumble into his shoulder. “No, this can’t be happening.”
You pull away from his hug, “Theo, you’re going abroad after graduation, I won’t even see you. Salazar, how is this even going to happen? No, how are we going to happen? Wait, do you even like me?”
As Theodore pressed a tender kiss to your forehead, you felt a surge of warmth flood through you, dispelling the lingering doubts and fears. “You really can’t see that I’ve loved you since first year?”
Your mouth is open from shock, and Theodore laughs once again, this time wiping the tears away.
“This can work. I’ll be gone for a few months but I’ll come back, here, to be with you.”
You look at Theodore, a smile now forming, “So we can do this? Give this relationship a try?”
“Yes, now let’s walk inside, you’re going to catch a cold.”
You give Theodore a quick peck on his cheek, before taking his hand again.
“You know,” Theodore pulls your intertwined hands to kiss your hand, leading you to exit the garden.
You blush at his action, “What?” You ask curiously.
“It’s a cruel summer with you.”
Tumblr media
And you can guess that Mattheo won that bet.

slytherin boys
…and their romantic tropes
Tumblr media
𝜗𝜚 theodore nott x fem!slytherin!reader
♡ academic rivals to lovers, use of y/n multiple times
Tumblr media
“ten points to slytherin.”
you smirked and held your head high, proud that professor slughorn had just gifted your house with points.
your eyes quickly went to the brunet who huffed and placed his arm down, not getting chosen to answer the question.
a tug hit your side, “(y/n), when will you admit that you fancy theo?”
pansy chuckled as you glared at her, rolling your eyes and diverting your attention to continue taking notes. “pansy, he is my biggest enemy. we have been competing against everything since first year. why in the bloody hell would you think i fancy that arse?”
ever since your first class in hogwarts, theodore nott has grown as your only rival. you both always fought to see who would answer the professor’s questions, who would receive the higher mark on exams, and who would be at the top of all classes.
even with the same slytherin friend group, everyone got used to the competitive nature that the two of you shared—non-slytherin students, professors, and maybe even headmaster dumbledore knew.
you started scribbling more words down while pansy shrugged her shoulders, “maybe because he’s all you ever talk about?” you stopped the quill you were using, glancing over at the boy sitting a few rows away.
“i don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“miss (y/l/n), since you’re distracted with miss parkinson, would you like to come up and smell this potion?”
suddenly your confidence shrunk as the entire classroom silently watched you. slowly you ascended from your seat, heading down the stairs to the front. there was snickering from your slytherin friends—especially theodore.
professor slughorn pointed towards the cauldron next to him, signaling you to smell the potion.
you stepped impossibly close, taking a sniff of the smell. “i smell fresh mint and sweet fire whiskey.”
you take a step back and beam before looking straight at pansy, except she holds a horrified look. all your classmates silently watched you in horror and their mouths open.
professor slughorn coughed once next to you, “thank you miss (y/l/n), you may now go back to your seat.”
confusion filled your face as you walked to the stairs.
“that, class, was the power of amortentia.“
you stood clutching your black and green robes in fists, realizing why everyone was still staring at you.
“it smells different to each person according to what they find attractive. now this potion..”
you couldn’t believe what you had just heard, more importantly, you knew whose scent you smelled from the potion.
you turned around, ignoring the specific pair of eyes lingering on you, rushing to leave the classroom as fast as your legs could take you.
you could explain to professor slughorn tomorrow that you felt like vomiting, so you had to run outside.
it was only a five-minute distance from the classroom to your dorm. technically, you could skip dinner later and ask pansy to bring you food, so you wouldn’t have to see theodo-
“(y/n)! wait!”
no. this cannot be happening.
you stopped in your tracks, slowly looking behind you.
theodore was running from the same direction you came from, catching up to you at a desperate pace.
“what nott? i don’t feel like arguing with you right now. not after.. that.” you hope he’s slow to realize that you smelled him in your amortentia.
“listen,” theodore caught up to you, standing in front of you now, “i know you smelled me in your amortentia just now.”
you groaned, “it’s not true. it can’t be. we hate each other.” you motioned between the two of you. “let’s just forget all this happened to save me from some humiliation.”
you turned to continue your journey back to your dorm when a hand grabbed your arm.
“no, listen to me.” theodore sounded sincere, his usual playful personality gone. “are you really that daft?”
you stared at the boy annoyed, “me? i’m as smart as you. we’re on top of our class, how would i be daft?”
“salazar, you’re in denial. you’re going to make me spell it out for you?”
annoyance was taking over you, shrugging your arm off of theodore’s grip. “if you don’t want to elaborate, i’ll be on my way.” you sighed and continued to walk down the empty corridors.
“(y/n)!”
you don’t even turn around to the boy. “piss off, nott.”
“i fancy you.”
you made about ten steps away from theodore before you froze. did you just hear him correctly?
theodore continued, “i’ve fancied you since first year when we first met, i’ve competed against you in every class to get your attention, but now i think we should start over?”
your eyes widen and search for any signs of insincerity while he stands, waiting for your response. letting out a breath, you take a few steps back towards him.
“i’d like that.”
“by the way, i smelled you in my amortentia last year.”

♫ enchanted — taylor swift
♡ mentions of slight drinking
there i was again tonight forcing laughter, faking smiles same old tired, lonely place walls of insincerity, shifting eyes and vacancy vanished when i saw your face all i can say is, it was enchanting to meet you
As you stepped into the Malfoy Manor, the extravagance of the masquerade ballroom overwhelmed your senses, with ornate chandeliers casting a warm glow across the marble floors.
It was Draco Malfoy's birthday, meaning all friends of the Malfoy's were invited.
You were a Slytherin but didn't know other Slytherin students well because you kept your circle small. However, your mother had recently become good friends with Narcissa Malfoy, so you were invited to the event for the first time.
Your heart fluttered nervously beneath the layers of your black satin gown, the intricate silver mask concealing your features but not your anxious anticipation.
You finally spotted who you were looking for—Pansy Parkinson, your only familiar face in the crowd. She stood out in her emerald attire and black mask, beckoning you to come over with an excited wave.
"Pansy!" you called softly, relieved to have found her amidst the sea of elegantly dressed witches and wizards.
Your friendship with Pansy started this year after you were assigned to sit next to each other in Potions. You let out a remark about Snape after he assigned another long assignment, which she was quick to laugh at. Ever since the two of you had become more than acquaintances. When you told Pansy about your invitation to Malfoy's birthday, she was delighted to meet you there.
"(Y/n), you made it!" Pansy's excitement was infectious as she took your arm, leading you through the gathering. "Let's go over to my friends!"
Pansy guided you toward her friends—Theodore Nott, Blaise Zabini, Lorenzo Berkshire, and Mattheo Riddle. Each wore a mask, their formal attire echoing sophistication and confidence.
Truthfully, without the introduction, you could recognize who they were based on their features. You weren't in their friend group but shared all your classes with them as a Slytherin.
"Meet Theo, Blaise, Enzo, and Mattheo," Pansy familiarized with enthusiasm. "They're my good friends."
You offered a shy smile, feeling slightly overwhelmed by the attention. Your gaze lingered on Mattheo, his figure standing quietly at the edge of the group. His mask, an intricate silver serpent, matched the elegance of his black outfit.
"And what's your name?" Theodore questioned after a sip from his champagne, growing curiosity about Pansy's new mystery friend.
"That's a secret for tonight." You adjust your mask to ensure it won't fall, "Maybe if you're lucky, you'll recognize me back at Hogwarts."
Lorenzo chimed in, "So you're a student at Hogwarts? I don't think I would miss you if you were friends with Pansy?"
The boys continued to study you as Pansy cleared her throat, "Let's just have fun tonight. Where's the birthday boy anyway?"
Theodore, Blaise, and Lorenzo told Pansy how Draco was with the group before he was flooded with adults trying to acquaint him with their daughters before dragging him with them.
your eyes whispered, "have we met?" across the room your silhouette starts to make its way to me the playful conversation starts counter all your quick remarks like passing notes in secrecy and it was enchanting to meet you all i can say is, i was enchanted to meet you
"Pleased to meet you," Mattheo spoke quietly and extended his hand. You shook his hand, stunned at his gesture, while the others were not paying attention to the two of you.
Amidst the vibrant atmosphere of laughter and playful banter with Pansy, Theodore, Blaise, and Lorenzo, you started getting absorbed into their friendship.
Jokes and stories echoed through the halls of the Malfoy Manor, with Draco's dilemma drawing laughter.
"Poor Draco," Blaise chuckled, nudging Pansy. "Looks like he's tonight's main attraction."
"They're practically throwing their daughters at him!" Theodore retorted. You had never seen the boy smile a day at Hogwarts until now.
Lorenzo laughed at his poor friend, "It is his birthday after all." They saw as Draco held his usual fake smile, one he uses in front of strangers to be polite, before engaging in a new conversation with more people.
"Hey, want to step outside for a bit?" Mattheo's considerate question caught your eye. "It's getting a bit crowded in here."
You brightened with relief at Mattheo's suggestion. "Yes, that sounds nice. It's getting a bit overwhelming."
With a nod and a polite excuse to the group, you followed Mattheo's lead as he guided you through the crowd, granting a brief break from the lively atmosphere. Transitioning from the bustling ballroom to the serene Malfoy garden felt like a breath of fresh air, the moonlight casting a tranquil glow upon the pathways.
this night is sparkling, don't you let it go i'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home i'll spend forever wondering if you knew i was enchanted to meet you
"I come here often," Mattheo confessed, a faint smile adorning his face. "It's a spot I go to whenever I visit the Malfoy Manor."
"It's lovely," you noted, taking in the beauty of the garden that Narcissa definitely invested a lot of time in.
"There's a place I like too," you shared, a hint of excitement lacing your voice. "The astronomy tower back at Hogwarts. It's a quiet spot, and hardly anyone goes there. Perfect for collecting thoughts."
Mattheo nodded in understanding, a flicker of curiosity shining in his eyes. "That sounds intriguing. I might have to give it a try."
As the conversation flowed, you both discussed your favorite classes and hobbies.
“You should come to the next quidditch game against Gryffindor if you have time of course.” Mattheo led you to a white bench that was toward the end of the garden, overlooking the entire estate.
“I’ll try.” You answered while sitting down next to him. Mattheo’s smile was growing under his mask,
“Promise?”
You met his eyes, “If I have time.”
Mattheo accepted your answer, sighing as he stared at the view. "There's someone who caught my eye," he suddenly admitted.
"From Hogwarts?" you inquired, curiosity coloring your tone. You didn't expect Mattheo to like someone in Hogwarts, let alone reveal that information.
Mattheo nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "Yes, she's remarkable. Intelligent, admirable, and fiercely loyal. She's pretty different from her house, if I'm honest."
"She sounds wonderful," you replied, a touch of disappointment shadowing your words.
"She is," Mattheo confirmed, his gaze momentarily distant. "I've admired her from afar but find it hard to approach her."
The conversation continued, but a feeling of disappointment clouded your heart. You truly believed that the precious moments you shared with Mattheo were maybe more than mere friendship. You made a silent decision to retreat from the serene gardens and bid Mattheo a gracious farewell.
"Well, I should probably head back inside," you said, getting up from the seat next to him.
Mattheo seemed taken aback by your abrupt departure, his gaze indicating confusion. "Oh, alright. I hope to see you around Hogwarts." You nodded, a sense of confusion swirling within.
How could he possibly hope to recognize you around Hogwarts when you hadn't revealed your identity while together in the Malfoy garden?
With a polite smile, you bid Mattheo goodbye. As you ventured back into the lively atmosphere of the ball, you looked for your parents to head back home.
the lingering question kept me up 2am, who do you love? i wonder 'til i'm wide awake and now i'm pacing back and forth wishing you were at my door i'd open up and you would say, "hey" it was enchanting to meet you all i know is, i was enchanted to meet you
Pansy led the way towards the Great Hall for dinner, her cheerful chatter providing a welcome distraction.
"Draco's birthday was memorable, don't you think?" Pansy walked toward her Slytherin friends to greet them before the two of you sat down.
A faint blush rose to your cheeks at the mention of the night you got to know Mattheo. The recollection of his engaging conversations and genuine interest in your thoughts brought a smile to your lips.
Before Pansy could continue, the conversation among the Slytherin boys nearby caught your attention.
"Oi, Mattheo, caught you staring at her in Charms today!" Theodore teased, nudging Mattheo with a playful grin.
"Saw him staring at her during Transfiguration too!" Blaise joined in with a chuckle.
Enzo added, "Yeah, mate, what's going on? We never thought you would fancy someone!"
The boys erupted into laughter, their teasing directed at Mattheo. However, unlike before, Mattheo's response caught your attention. He blushed furiously, his usually composed demeanor faltering for a moment.
"Wait, who's the unlucky witch?" Draco half-joked, as usual, he was unfamiliar with his friends’ relationships.
"You don't need to know," Mattheo replied, brushing his friends off to avoid the questions. His attempt to deflect the attention only drew more laughter from his friends.
As the laughter continued, Mattheo's introverted reaction lingered in your mind.
Pansy quickly noticed your mood change, pulling you towards your usual seats without greeting the boys. "What's wrong, (Y/n)? You seem troubled."
"You know when I went outside with Mattheo? I thought he was a nice guy," Pansy studied your troubled expression, her mind whirling with the knowledge she couldn't reveal.
You continued, "But that night, he told me he already likes someone." You sighed, realizing that you were probably delusional about him taking an interest in you.
"I guess it's a good thing he didn't know who I was that night?" You let out a sarcastic laugh at how you felt a bit foolish.
You decided to change the topic, not wanting to burden Pansy with your misinterpretation.
"Anyway, who are you going to the Yule ball with?"
this night is sparkling, don't you let it go i'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home i'll spend forever wondering if you knew that this night is flawless, don't you let it go i'm wonderstruck, dancing around all alone i'll spend forever wondering if you knew i was enchanted to meet you
The date for the Yule ball approached closer, and students were finding dates left and right. You were not going, no one had asked you to the ball, and you never planned on going from the start.
You and Pansy found yourselves outside the Great Hall entrance. As usual, the hallways flooded with students leaving, entering, or just arriving for dinner. You and Pansy had finished your food quicker than usual, opting to stand outside to gossip together and then head back to your common room.
“I think Draco’s going to ask me soon!” Pansy spoke in hushed voices so no one else would hear the two of you. After you brought up the Yule ball, Pansy had been updating you on her relationship with Draco.
“I’m happy for you, Pansy. Make sure to tell me when you choose your dress.” Even with numerous students walking by, you saw Pansy’s friends again. This time, finishing up their meal to leave.
“Of course, (Y/n). What about you? Do you plan on asking anyone?” Your gaze went to Pansy, shrugging and preparing to tell her your plan.
“(Y/n)!” A voice called from behind you. You turned your body, seeing none other than Harry Potter approaching you alone. You knew of him, sharing a few classes with him.
“Hey, Potter. What’s up?” Pansy fell silent, just watching the interaction.
Harry straightened up, pushing his glasses up his nose. He cleared his throat before he continued. “I've been meaning to ask if you would like to be my date for the Yule ball?"
Your mouth fell open, not knowing how to respond. Next to you, Pansy stood still. She had also not seen this coming.
“She already does.” As if your day couldn't be filled with more surprises, Mattheo answered out of nowhere, glaring daggers at Harry.
Harry took three glances around all of you, composing himself. “Oh, then never mind. I'll see you around (Y/n).”
Harry left, leaving you, Pansy, and now Mattheo next to you. You shook your head after watching Harry leave, taking you out of your trance, “Wait, what just happened?”
“Follow me.”
this is me praying that this was the very first page not where the story line ends my thoughts will echo your name, until i see you again these are the words i held back, as i was leaving too soon i was enchanted to meet you
"Where are you taking me? Do you even know me?"
Confusion and frustration surged within you as Mattheo led you up the astronomy tower steps, your protests falling on deaf ears. After Harry left, Mattheo had taken your hand and dragged you down the halls, leaving Pansy and all his friends back there.
"Hello? I know you hear me talking.”
Mattheo reached the top, you right behind him. The two of you stood in front of a giant open space, giving a perfect view of the area around Hogwarts. Mattheo let go of your hand, hesitating for a moment, "You said you like to come up here."
You looked around the familiar tower, "What?" Your confusion only grew, stepping back slightly.
That was what you told Mattheo on the night of Draco’s party.
Mattheo put his hands on his forehead, thinking of what to say next, "Look, I know it was you that night (Y/n). I didn't want to admit I knew who you were at the masquerade ball. I wanted to keep that moment in the garden special. But I need you to know something."
Confusion tangled with the turmoil of emotions inside you. "Know what?"
Taking a deep breath, Mattheo's words spilled out in a rush. "I've liked you for so long, (Y/n). I've been afraid to say it since we have never been friends, but I couldn't let you go to the Yule Ball with someone else without telling you how I feel."
Your heart skipped a beat, the weight of his confession settling heavily on your shoulders. "But you like someone else," you countered, your voice tinged with hurt.
Mattheo looked taken aback. "No, (Y/n), it's always been you. The night of Draco’s birthday, the girl I told you about at the garden was you."
A wave of realization washed over you, the pieces of misunderstanding falling into place. You were surprised, not expecting him to reciprocate your feelings.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" You whispered as he turned to face you properly.
"I told you that night," Mattheo said, "I didn’t know how to approach you before in Hogwarts. Talking to you alone was already enough for me, how would I admit my feelings for you too? You make me nervous.”
Your breath caught as you realized the depth of his sincerity.
“Mattheo, would you go to the Yule ball with me?” Mattheo smiled and held your hands, pulling you closer to him.
“I would love to.”
✩ special epilogue
draco’s birthday (mattheo’s version)
this night is sparkling, don't you let it go i'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home i'll spend forever wondering if you knew
It was an hour before Draco’s party started and the young group of Slytherins were sprawled out in Draco’s bedroom. Everyone relaxing except Draco, who was changing his suit for the third time due to his picky fashion sense.
“…And my friend (Y/n) is attending Dray’s birthday tonight. Please be nice to her.” Pansy twirled in front of the large mirror to ensure there were no flaws in her dress.
“(Y/n)? As in Mattheo’s crush, (Y/n)?” Blaise asked, turning his head to the boy next to him on the couch. If Mattheo wasn’t interested in the conversation before, he was now.
Pansy, realizing what she just said, looked back at the boys through the mirror. “Wait, act like I didn’t say that. It would be so weird if she came with a mask but you all recognize her, none of you even talked to her once in Hogwarts!”
Theodore shrugged on the windowsill, smoking a cigarette outside the open window, “Well, we would talk to (Y/n), but Mattheo won’t let us in case we mess up his chances with her.”
Mattheo glared at Theodore, walking over to sprawl on Draco’s king-sized bed. “I’m trying to approach her. I just get a little nervous.” He muffled, face down on the sheets to hide his growing blush at the thought of you.
Lorenzo suddenly stood up from the couch, making his way next to the bed, “Cannonball or talk to (Y/n) tonight!”
Mattheo immediately got off the bed, avoiding Lorenzo from jumping on top of him, “All right, mate. But let me talk to her on my own, no interfering, okay?”
The group exchanged glances, smirking and nodding, before Draco walked into the room dressed in his dark green suit.
“What did I miss?”
present day (mattheo’s version)
this night is flawless, don't you let it go i'm wonderstruck, dancing around all alone i'll spend forever wondering if you knew i was enchanted to meet you
The boys were heading out of the Great Hall after eating dinner. Mattheo was busy listening to Theodore tell him about the upcoming exam for Charms.
“Mattheo, mate, your girl is over there!” Mattheo stopped his tracks at what Lorenzo said, the whole group stopping in the hallway with him. He saw that you and Pansy were alone by the entrance, so it would be an ideal chance to talk to you.
Lorenzo nudged Mattheo, “Go, you have to ask her to the Yule ball!”
Mattheo rolled his eyes jokingly, “I told you, I’ll do that next we-”
“Is that Harry Potter talking to (Y/n)?” Draco cut Mattheo off, all eyes staring back at the doors. Like Draco said, now there was the Chosen One standing next to you.
“Since it's Yule ball season, I think he’s asking her to go with him to the Yule ball.” Theodore inferred, waiting for Mattheo’s reaction. Before the boys could say anything, Mattheo stormed off to where you were.
Lorenzo wiped a fake tear and leaned on Blaise dramatically, “Our little Matty’s all grown up.” Blaise rolled his eyes at the exaggerating boy, “I can’t believe it’s taking Harry Potter to steal his girl for him to make the move.”
Draco rolled his eyes, "It was actually my birthday that instigated everything."
"Okay, ferret boy."

warnings: some time skip.
“Friends?”
“Friends.”
That marked the end of your two-year relationship with Theodore. As he said his final word, you turned away, walking down the winding steps of the Astronomy Tower, holding back the emotions until you returned to your dormitory.
The night blurred into a haze of tears, finding comfort in Pansy’s shoulder as both of you nestled on the dorm floor. Hours passed in a cocoon of sadness before Blaise, Mattheo, Lorenzo, and even Draco appeared with snacks and muggle movies, trying to lift your spirits.
Wrapped up in your distress, you didn't think to ask how they found out about your breakup. Unbeknownst to you, amidst his own pain, Theodore asked his friends to comfort you instead of him.
⋆。 ゚☁︎。 ⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。 ⋆
Three weeks had gone by since the breakup. As promised, you and Theodore went back to being friends, just like before, merely two friends within the same tight-knit circle. But beneath the surface of friendliness, your friends noticed the underlying tension between you and Theodore, silently wishing for a reunion.
It was a random morning in the Great Hall when you announced to your friends that you would be occupied before dinner to take on the extra credit assignment for Herbology. Your friends looked at you strangely, the assignment was unnecessary for someone with such high marks, but inside you wanted a distraction from everything.
Back in the common room, the attention shifted to Theodore, the elephant in the room finally about to be addressed.
“So, what led to the breakup?” Blaise relaxed in his chair while Theodore sighed, looking at the ceiling.
“She didn’t say why, but she mentioned that you initiated the breakup,” Draco said casually, trying to hide his interest for the situation.
“I told her she deserved better.”
Silence.
Suddenly, Lorenzo burst into laughter.
“Salazar, Enzo,” Pansy stood, disregarding Lorenzo's reaction. “So, let me get this straight,” she pointed her finger at Theodore, “You're saying the reason the group has been down is because you decided she deserved someone better?”
Mattheo set aside his cigarette, “Didn’t expect you to be so naive, mate.”
Blaise nodded, “Thinking that's an explanation. (Y/n) adores you, where will you find a girl better than her?”
Theodore’s face paled, “She’ll find someone better and eventually leave me. I couldn’t handle that.”
Draco stayed composed, “So you ended it first. Well done, Theo.”
Theodore buried his face in his hands, letting out an exasperated groan. “You all know she has a promising future after graduation. Why should she stay with me and be held back?”
“Did you talk to her about this, or did your insecurities make the call?” Lorenzo’s words made Theodore freeze, lost in thought.
Pansy packed up, checking the time. “Dinner’s soon. Let’s go.”
The boys followed Pansy, leaving Theodore alone, contemplating if his decision was right for your relationship.
⋆。 ゚☁︎。 ⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。 ⋆
"I got the job!"
Strolling around Hogsmeade with Blaise and Pansy, you stumbled upon a new place—a wizarding coffee shop. Your liking for muggle coffeehouses sparked your curiosity, pushing you to ask about potential employment.
Excitement bubbled as you shared the news with your friends in the Great Hall.
“We’ve got a place to visit now.” Lorenzo grinned, aware it might bring some joy after a while.
Pansy nudged Draco, "Let’s study there. OWLS are coming up and some muggle coffee might help."
Draco glanced at Theodore, who sat in silence, unsure of what to say. “That sounds like a plan. I could use some muggle coffee.”
They all knew Draco was convincing Theodore to join.
"When do you start?" Mattheo asked between sips of hot chocolate.
You remembered your upcoming schedule, “Next week, Wednesdays and Saturdays? Once I’m trained, next Saturday, I’ll treat you all to some amazing muggle coffee."
The group agreed, planning to meet at your workplace next Saturday.
⋆。 ゚☁︎。 ⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。 ⋆
“Five cups of regular iced coffee, please.” You operated the muggle machine, engrossed in fulfilling the order.
“Oh, hey, Theodore. Are the others here?” You looked around, causing Theodore’s shoulders to slump slightly.
“They're at the big corner table. Enzo insisted the natural sunlight would help with studying…”
A soft chuckle escaped, “You can go back, I’ll bring the drinks over when ready.” Theodore nodded, returning to the café’s corner.
Blaise grabbed the first cup but stopped when Pansy teased him. “Don’t hog! Share!”
“How does it taste?” you asked, turning to your friends.
“(Y/n), muggle coffee is amazing.” Mattheo praised, soon followed by Blaise signaling he finished his drink.
“I should tell my father about this place,” Draco chimed in, and before you knew it, all the cups were empty.
“I should get back to work, see you at dinner.”
“What time do you finish?” Theodore's sudden interest surprised everyone.
“(Y/n)?”
"I'm done around six," You said while feeling a bit overwhelmed inside.
Theodore nodded, indicating your return to work.
Numerous customers kept you busy. Though you didn’t need money, the experience was enriching.
While your friends left at five, Theodore stayed. He moved to a quiet spot facing the counter where you worked.
Ignoring his shift, you focused on the new customers who walked in.
“(Y/n), it's six, you can leave,” your boss said, offering a pastry.
“Thanks,” grabbing your coat, you started to leave the kitchen.
“Are you done?” Theodore was poised by the counter, waiting for your response.
“Theodore, did you wait?”
Signaling to walk together, he said, “I had a few assignments that I wanted to finish early so I stayed longer.” His nervous fidgeting gave away his lie, his habit you remembered from your past relationship.
You hummed, touched by his waiting.
“I might visit often. I didn't mention earlier, but the coffee’s great.”
Walking back to Hogwarts, feelings for Theodore surfaced since the breakup.
How could you move on when he acted this way?
For two months, Theodore kept his promise, visiting the café every Wednesday and Saturday, bringing schoolwork, and leaving with you.
You felt the emotions returning but you were scared to get hurt. After all, he initiated the breakup, right?
Your friends noticed Theodore’s absence on your workdays, understanding where Theodore was without verbal explanation.
“One large iced coffee, please.” You prepared a cup, “And your name?”
“Theo.”
“Oh,” You looked up at Theodore. “One large iced coffee for Theodore.” You repeated his order and placed the cup down.
“Why don’t you call me Theo anymore?” His disappointment was evident.
Meeting his gaze, you explained, “Because we’re just friends.”
Theodore observed the cup, then you.
“You know what, I think I forgot something at my dorm. I’m going to go.” His tone was sharper than he meant, leaving the café abruptly.
⋆。 ゚☁︎。 ⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。 ⋆
“Now you're the clueless one. Salazar, why do I have two of them?” Lorenzo dramatized, earning an eye roll from you.
Theodore disappeared after the café meeting. Unaware of his whereabouts, your friends gathered in the common room, waiting for his return.
“I mean, (Y/n), Enzo's right,” Pansy said, sipping the muggle coffee you brewed for the group.
“He ended things months ago. I don’t see why you're all on his side.” Frowning, you didn’t grasp their empathy toward Theodore.
“(Y/n), listen,” Blaise interrupted, “Regardless of who initiated the breakup, Theodore has come to your café twice a week for months, just to be spend time with you.”
Draco echoed Blaise’s sentiments. “OWLS were done a month ago, yet he still visits. Give Theo credit for trying.”
You sighed, “I care for him, but I don’t want to be hurt again. He should just tell me. His actions are misleading if he doesn’t want to reconcile.”
Lost in thought, the warmth of the common room enveloped you, the crackling fire providing a soothing ambiance.
As evening approached, your thoughts circled Theodore’s sudden exit from the café, leaving you unsettled, your mind in disarray.
Unnoticed, the common room door creaked open. Theodore entered, visibly anxious. His eyes met yours, a blend of hesitation and resolve painting his expression.
The room fell silent as Theodore approached you, a mix of emotions playing across his face. Without a word, you got up and led him out of the common room.
The two of you reached the Blake Lake, facing each other, as tension filled the air. Theodore struggled with his thoughts, torn between holding back and speaking up.
“I’m sorry for earlier,” he started, a hint of regret in his tone. “I didn’t mean to leave abruptly. I've been struggling, (Y/n).”
“Struggling? With what, Theodore?”
Gathering his thoughts, he spoke earnestly. “With everything between us. The breakup, it wasn't about not caring about you. I was scared.”
“Scared?” Your voice softened, understanding blooming within.
Theodore nodded, his eyes never leaving yours. “I was scared that you would realize I was holding you back and leave me. So I thought if I let you go, you would be better off.”
Your heart ached, his honesty striking a chord with your own doubts. “But, Theodore, you never gave me a chance to choose. You made that decision for me.”
“I know, and I regret it every day.” Remorse filled his words, his vulnerability evident. “I visited the café because I wanted to be near you. But I understand if it’s been confusing for you.”
Silence hung, emotions swirling like a storm.
“I never stopped loving you,” you whispered, emotions stirring within.
He met your gaze, “I don't want to lose you again, (Y/n). I want us to start over, I'll do everything to make things right.”
“Let's take it slow, Theodore. Start over and let's see where it takes us.”
A soft smile appeared on his face, relief in his eyes. “I promise, I'll do everything.”
"I've missed this," Theodore confessed softly, his eyes reflecting a mixture of emotions.
You gently squeezed his hand, a smile tugging at the corners of your lips. "Me too. I think we both needed this time to figure things out."
Theodore stopped walking, turning to face you with resolve. "I want us to try again, to be together, properly this time.”
Your heart skipped a beat, warmth spreading through you at his words. You looked into his eyes, seeing a depth of sincerity that reassured you more than any words could. "I want that too, Theodore. Let's give us another chance."
With that shared agreement, a sense of relief and joy washed over both of you. Walking hand in hand, Theodore smiled for the first time in months.
“Now, will you call me Theo?”

♡ mentions of physical fighting and drinking alcohol
"Ravenclaw match, you two have to come," Draco persisted as the group strolled towards the Great Hall after Potions. The corridors bustled with students chatting against the intricately carved stone walls.
Draco had been harping on about the upcoming Quidditch game for a week, but the sport wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, especially for you and Pansy. All your friends, save for you two, were Slytherin team members, so Quidditch was a frequent topic with the blond.
Just as you were about to respond to Draco's insistence, a voice called your name from behind—a voice unfamiliar in your circle.
You turned to find Harry Potter attempting to catch up with your group.
"Need something, Potter?" Confusion clouded your mind. You and your friends fell silent, eager to hear Harry’s purpose.
Harry, catching his breath, glanced slightly past you, "Can we talk in private? Just for a min-"
"No." Draco intercepted Harry, and you shook your head at his lack of tact. Draco's disdain for the Chosen One was no secret, and your group avoided dealings with the Golden Trio.
“Draco, mind your manners,” Pansy chided, her glare fixated on him.
"It's alright," Harry scratched his head, looking back at you, "I was wondering if you’d like to visit Hogsmeade with me this weekend?"
You were taken aback, not expecting this from Harry. Before you could respond, Mattheo stepped forward, a storm brewing in his eyes.
"Stay away from her, Potter," Mattheo's voice was low and menacing, his tone laced with a hint of warning.
"Hey, no need to—" Harry began, raising his palms in defense.
"You heard him," Draco chimed in, a smirk playing on his lips, "I think Mattheo's made himself quite clear."
"I was just asking—" Harry attempted to reason, but Mattheo’s fist swiftly connected with Harry’s cheek, leaving the hallway in shocked silence.
"Mattheo!" You gasped, pulling him away from Harry, who staggered to the floor amidst the sudden commotion.
The scene drew the attention of nearby students, who froze their actions to witness the unfolding event.
Draco burst into laughter, stifled only after a sharp glance from Pansy. "Salazar, Draco! Mattheo just punched Potter, and you’re not going to intervene?"
Draco smirked, "Why bother? Mattheo's taking one for the team."
You glared at Draco, "Shut it, Draco," you commanded, and then turned to Mattheo with furrowed brows, "And you—never embarrass me like that again."
After Harry was escorted to the hospital wing, you retreated to your dorm, keen to avoid further public spectacle.
In the aftermath, Mattheo avoided any interaction with you, ignoring your presence completely. His silence weighed heavily, perplexing you—why should you be the one he’s upset with when he was in the wrong?
On a Friday night, your Slytherin friends gathered in Pansy’s dorm to sample the new alcohol Blaise had procured from the Weasley twins. Mattheo was due to arrive late after serving his last detention for the altercation with Harry.
The room was dimly lit by lamps, casting elongated shadows as you lounged on the plush rug, the aroma of vanilla-scented candles lingering in the air.
"Pass your strongest, Blaise," you grinned, eager to partake in the revelry.
The bottles flowed endlessly, a blur of laughter and camaraderie. The alcohol dulled your senses, making the room spin, the soft glow of the lamps casting a hazy ambiance.
"My head’s spinning," you mumbled before retreating to Pansy’s bed, the soft sheets enveloping you in warmth.
"(Y/n), just sleep. We’re here," Theodore reassured, setting down his drink. Your friends watched, ensuring your comfort, their voices merging into a comforting background hum.
You yawned, nodding at his suggestion, "Okay, Theo. You know, you’re all my best mates," you mumbled, "You don’t go around punching and ignoring people."
Amidst laughter, you closed your eyes, the room swirling gently in your mind.
"(Y/n)," a voice shook you, rousing you from your slumber. Groaning, you tried to burrow further into the bed, your head pounding, the room spinning slightly around you.
"Come on, wake up," the voice persisted, pulling you from the bed. The room echoed with laughter, your friends amused by the spectacle, their figures appearing somewhat blurry.
"Who’s waking me up at this hour?" You groggily looked around, only to realize you’d been asleep for a few hours, the room appearing dimly lit and cozy.
"Where are you taking me?" You demanded as Mattheo led you towards the door, the corridor outside illuminated by the soft glow of torches.
"Back to your room," Mattheo replied, looking back at his friends, "Goodnight, see you all tomorrow."
You stumbled along, your inebriated stubbornness guiding your steps.
"Let’s get you back," Mattheo urged, his fingers intertwined with yours, the warmth of his touch grounding you amidst the foggy haze of your inebriated state.
"Mattheo, why have you been avoiding me?" you queried, the shadows dancing against the stone walls as torchlight played across the corridor.
Mattheo paused, his gaze locking with yours. "I should’ve been upset with you. How could you just punch someone like that?" you continued, the echoes of your voices mingling with the distant sounds of Hogwarts settling into the night.
"I'm sorry," Mattheo began, a faint trace of sincerity lacing his words, yet it seemed inadequate.
You rolled your eyes in response, skepticism etched on your features. “Sorry’s not going to cut it, bud—"
"I was jealous because I like you," Mattheo’s confession cut through the air, catching you off guard. The torchlight cast a warm glow on his earnest face, his eyes holding a mixture of vulnerability and longing.
Your eyes widened in response to his unexpected confession, the corridor's shadows dancing subtly against the stone walls as you absorbed his words.
Taking a deep breath, you met his gaze, the torchlight creating soft shadows that played across the corridor. "I like you too," you admitted, your voice soft yet resolute.
Mattheo's face lit up with a lopsided grin, the torchlight flickering gently in the hallway, casting dancing shadows on the walls and floor. "Well, guess you’re going to Hogsmeade with me now," he declared, his voice holding a hint of playfulness.

Tumblr media
The only thing on your mind was to run.
You gripped onto your black robes tightly, trying to get anywhere but where you just were.
The crowded halls became your enemy as groups of students were spread out in front of you, all socializing with friends during the passing period. You hoped that after a minute of running, you would have lost what was chasing behind you.
Although the atmosphere was loud due to all the conversations surrounding you, the sound of someone running behind you started to get evident. Your eyes widened and your heartbeat raced, maybe you should just pull out your wand and apparate to your dorm.
The moment you pulled out your wand, a hand tightly grabbed your wrist bringing you into the nearest room.
“Salazar, you scared me, Theo!”
Theodore Nott closed and stood in front of the door as if blocking your only exit to run. He towered over you, panting as if he just ran laps around the quidditch field. His face showed no emotion as he kept holding your wrist.
You looked around and realized you were inside an empty classroom. The silence was different compared to the noise on the opposite side of the door.
“Why are you avoiding me?” Theodore looked down at you, his eyes softer than before. You avoided his eyes, deciding to stare down at both your hands.
“I didn’t avoid you.” You looked up as Theodore let out a sarcastic laugh, rolling his eyes.
“That’s bullshit. Every single time I see you, you start leaving the other way.” Theodore used his free hand to cup your face so you would look right at him. “I haven’t even talked to you properly for the past month!”
You broke free of his grasp, not wanting to answer him. “I’ve been busy studying, Theo.”
Your mouth felt bitter with the lies coming out of your mouth. Theodore looked at you as if you had grown three heads.
“I spent the past month not being able to sleep because my best friend was ignoring me, and this is the best excuse you have?”
‘Best friend’
You went towards his side, signaling that you wanted to leave.
“Now let me go, I have class and I don’t want to be late.”
Theodore looked down for a moment, shaking his head. “You’re not leaving until you tell me what’s wrong.”
You let out the biggest sigh, turning the opposite way around towards the empty classroom. Your hands started brushing your hair back, and annoyance and irritation started to form in your head.
Theodore saw your frustrated figure and decided to push on, “Come on, just tell me what is bothering you. Is it something I did?”
Your back was to him, your mind racing a million thoughts. ‘You can’t keep avoiding Theodore forever.’
You turned around and let out a breath you’ve been holding. Theodore looked like he ran his hands through his hair a million times. It was truly now or never.
“I like you, more than friends.”
You stared at Theodore’s eyes which grew larger in size, the moment of silence starting to kill you. You decided to continue on.
“I’ve known for a while now, but I really couldn’t take that you only saw us as friends. I figured that staying away from you would help get rid of my feelings.”
You looked down at your feet, starting to regret saying anything. Maybe you could run away now?
“Did it work?”
“Did what work?” Confused, you looked up at Theodore as he stared straight into your eyes.
“Did you lose feelings for me?” Theodore clarified.
You sighed, “No, that’s why I haven’t talked to you.”
Theodore suddenly smirked, walking towards you.
“Well, I guess that’s a good thing because I like you too, more than friends.” Your mouth opened in shock as he smiled and pulled you in for a hug.
“Now stop avoiding me because I’ve missed you.”

𝜗𝜚 draco malfoy x reader | fluff, slight angst
♡ reader has neglectful parents
6:02 pm
“Finally, in a few hours, our lovely Y/N will be 16!” Pansy clapped her hands together in delight, excited for your birthday.
“Oh Pansy, it's not that serious.” You shrug while picking at your food.
You were a transfer student from Drumstrang, so this was indeed the first birthday you would spend at Hogwarts.
The moment you were placed into Slytherin, Draco approached you and befriended you into his group of friends. Ever since, you have grown closer with all of them.
Mattheo puts his fork down, “But Y/N, this is your first time celebrating your birthday with us!”
“He’s right,” Theodore started, “we should stay up till midnight since we don't have class tomorrow anyway.”
You looked up at your friends, knowing they wanted to cheer you up.
It was this morning when you received your monthly letter from your parents. They wrote that you should study harder to keep up your—currently perfect—grades, along with how they were going on another business trip to America.
They wrote about everything but your birthday.
This was nothing new, after all, they were always busy during your previous birthdays.
Blaise joined in, “If it makes you feel any better, we all had our gifts bought last month because someone,” he looked over at Pansy, “wanted to start gift shopping early.”
You turned to Pansy who simply grinned, “Oh, come on, you didn't have to spoil the surprise, Blaise!”
Pansy playfully slapped Blaise’s shoulder while you, Mattheo, and Theodore laughed.
The laughter died down and you spoke, “By the way, where's Draco?”
Draco Malfoy, your best friend. You would consider him the closest person to you in all of Hogwarts.
You haven't seen the blond a lot this week, mostly during classes. After classes ended, instead of him hanging out with you, he would leave the common room and not come back all night.
Two days ago, he returned late at night to the common room, passing by your group of friends while his dark robes were covered in some white powder. You asked what was wrong as he bee-lined towards the stairs, but he muttered something with a frustrated face; you haven't had a chance to talk to him since.
All the talk about your birthday made you start to feel excited, but you wanted Draco to be around too. But seeing how he has been the past week, you were starting to doubt he remembered your birthday.
You were too busy in thought to see the four of your friends sending eye signals to each other, each of them caught off-guard to give you an excuse.
Unlike Blaise exposing everyone’s early gift preparation, this was something that needed to be covered up.
Theodore cleared his throat first, “I think he's practicing more Quidditch. You know, since the season is starting soon.”
Mattheo added on, his food long forgotten, “You know how serious he is with beating every house, especially Gryffindor.”
“Oh,” you nodded your head “that reminds me, I'll see my first Hogwarts Quidditch match soon!” Your mood was suddenly lifted, thinking back to your old school’s Quidditch games. You always loved Quidditch and attended every game since you were a first-year at Drumstrang.
The moment you started to ramble to your friends about your favorite sport, you didn't hear the sighs of relief at your table.
11:50 pm
Pansy and Blaise were walking with you back to the common room. You just spent a few hours stargazing with them by the Black Lake.
Mattheo and Theodore said something about having to practice Quidditch with Draco too, which you didn't want to hold them back for. They made sure to tell you that they would meet the three of you back before midnight before they hurried off.
“We’re going to the Three Broomsticks tomorrow?”
“Of course, we’re going to have a birthday dinner. We always celebrate our birthdays there.”
You smiled, grateful to have wonderful friends. “It's not even my birthday yet, but thank you both for preparing so much. You guys know already, but I didn't celebrate my birthday during my childhood.”
Pansy and Blaise look at you with sadness, knowing about your life with your busy parents. It was a post-party hangout at Draco’s dorm when you opened up to all of them, partially because you were drunk, but also because you knew you could trust all five of them.
“Y/N, we’re your family too. We will always celebrate your day with you, so don't think too much about your parents.” You smiled at Blaise, grateful for his words.
The three of you finally reached the Slytherin common room. Although it was late, there were many students sprawled out of the room, hanging out with each other.
“Should we go check up on Draco?” Pansy asked, staring at her watch.
“Wouldn’t he be asleep?” You asked confused.
You assumed that since he was busy with Quidditch, he forgot about your birthday. The thought of him forgetting your birthday made you grow a bit sad, but you didn't want to make it a big deal.
Blaise started walking to the stairs, “He doesn't sleep early, come on.”
Pansy followed quickly behind Blaise, leaving you a little confused.
“Y/N!” Pansy yelled from the top of the stairs, “Let’s go!”
You grew confused but followed after your friends, walking up the stairs to Draco’s room.
“Pansy? Blaise? Where did you guys go?” You reached the top and did not see your friends.
You approached Draco’s dorm, knocking on the door.
“Draco? Are you in here?” You pushed the knob, stepping inside the dark room. You took two steps before there was a loud sound next to you, like something popping.
12:00am
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY Y/N!”
The lights turned on and you looked around, Draco’s dorm decorated for your birthday. Green balloon letters were written ‘HAPPY 16TH BIRTHDAY’ and confetti was thrown all over the floor. There was also a stash of gifts in the corner of his room, definitely the one Pansy made them buy in advance.
You were immediately hugged by Pansy, “It’s midnight! The start of your big day!”
Blaise, Theodore, and Mattheo chuckled before all saying happy birthday to you.
You had never smiled so hard, feeling so grateful for all of your friends.
“What happened to Quidditch practice today?” You ask Theodore and Mattheo, assuming they must have decorated Draco’s room. However, it may have been the messy arrangement of the balloon letters that gave it away.
Mattheo looked at you with wide eyes, “That was a lie. Sorry, we tried to have you distracted to prepare this.”
You let out a laugh, “It’s okay, wait a minute, then what about Draco’s practices?”
The group felt silent, not before looking behind you at the currently opened door “If your practices were a lie, then was Draco’s-”
“Happy Birthday, Y/N” A voice interrupted your own.
You turned your body to the door, and a smiling Draco entered the room. Looking at his hands, he held a green cake with a single lit candle on top. It spelled out ‘Happy Birthday Y/N’ in frosting.
“Draco? What is this?”
“Well, snake's out of the bag,” Draco said standing in front of you.
Pansy went to stand beside you first, “But before, let’s sing first!”
The others agreed and started to sing you a happy birthday, Mattheo’s off-pitch voice making you laugh the whole time. When they finished you smiled, closing your eyes to make to make a wish before blowing out the candle.
“Yay!” Mattheo screamed excitedly, jumping up and down.
“Let’s go down to the common room to eat!” Theodore suggested, leaving the room to race Mattheo.
The rest of you four laughed, following them quickly.
“So,” you started, “did Draco have practice this week?” You sat down on the couch as your friends surrounded you.
Draco grinned, “You’ve caught me. I made your cake myself.” Your eyes widened in surprise as he put the cake down for Pansy to cut it.
“You thought Pansy reminding us a month in advance to buy gifts was insane? Draco spent the entire week learning how to bake a cake for your birthday.”
Draco took a seat next to you on the couch, hiding behind you as Blaise and Mattheo teased him further.
“Is that true?” You asked Draco, who shrugged his shoulders as if it was nothing.
“Have the first slice, Y/N” Pansy passed you a slice on a plate that she somehow prepared while you were too shocked.
“Come on, tell us if it’s bad!” Mattheo said from the couch across from you, earning a smack in the head from Blaise.
You took a bite and it seemed like the cake was baked by a professional. You savored the taste and smiled, “It's delicious!”
That was all it took for Mattheo and Theodore to beg Pansy for slices, while Blaise was busy helping her cut the cake.
“Thank you, Draco, I didn't know.” He put his arm around your shoulder, leaning closer to you.
“I’m happy you love it, and that the cake didn't taste bad.” You laughed as you kept eating the cake.
“Y/N,” Blaise said, all your friends now settled down with cake slices except Draco, “You don’t understand. Not only did he learn how to bake that cake, he asked all of us to taste test it each time..”
A realization hit your eyes, “Is that why you were all sick a few days ago? It was his previous cakes?”
All your friends laughed as Draco hid his face in your neck embarrassed.
“At least it tastes wonderful now.” Mattheo munched on his cake slice with a smile, “Draco, you need to bake all of us birthday cakes now.”
Draco shook his head, before looking at you.
“Only for Y/N’s birthdays.”
