More Headcanon Time
Ophelia Rose Potter was born on September 15th, 1982 to James and Lily Potter. Named for James’ Grandmother and Lily’s Mother. Curly dark hair, and little a mouth scrunched tightly closed.
Baby Harry was incredibly excited, wanting to climb on top of his little sister only to be gently pulled away by James, explaining that “Mummy is very tired, and O is very small, we have to be soft and quiet. Can we do that Harry?”
Harry only nodded, watching in silent awe as his baby sister opened her eyes for the first time, nestled against Lily and wrapped in a soft pink blanket.
James thought he couldn’t have ever been happier than the day Harry was born. But this… His wife and son and daughter cuddled in bed together. That feeling was otherworldly.

Harry Potter Headcanon (1)
James wrote a song called “Harry’s Victory.”
James Potter learned to play the piano beautifully and compose music at an early age. Classical music was a tradition passed down through the Potter family.
When James and Lily were in hiding with Harry, James composed songs on the family piano to keep himself sane.
James was so worried about the prophecy and what it meant for his beloved son’s future… The words “neither can live while the other survives” haunted him.
One day, in his despair over what could be his son’s fate, James wrote a song called “Harry’s Victory.” It was filled with equal parts hope and grief and it said everything that words couldn’t.
He handwrote the sheet music and scribbled at the very bottom of the last page “I believe in my son.”
The summer after the Battle of Hogwarts, the Ministry finally turned over the possessions found in the rubble of the Potter House to Harry. The sheet music was amongst the recovered items.
Hermione played the music for Harry and the Weasley family on the piano. It was the most moving experience of Harry’s life and he treasured the gift from his father forever.
A recording of “Harry’s Victory” was released to the Wizarding World that fall and it went down in history. It was an anthem… to remember the First and Second Wizarding Wars, to honor those who had fallen, and to celebrate the victory that had saved them all.

Euphemia Potter and Fleamont Potter
My headcannon - POTTER FAMILY
I always imagine James' mother as a very elegant woman with an aristocratic charm. After all, he was from the Black family. The type who doesn't raise his voice to be heard. She wore elegant dresses with pearls. Her nails were perfectly done and her hair was tied in a perfect bun. Red lips. Like Grace Kelly but with black hair. Even though from the outside she seemed very cold and inaccessible. She was an incredibly nice and empathetic person. Who just had hard skin.
James' father was completely different. he was crazy, full of life, energy and humor. He was always in a hurry and had a larger than life personality (like James). He drew from life like a lemon. He was always busy with some adventure, he couldn't sit still. He never gave a damn about how he looked, his shirt or hands were always dirty. He spent his days in his workshop, where he invented strange inventions and potions.
I think James was a lot like his father, but he had his mother's charm and posh.
James was their dream son. After many attempts, miscarriages and after they lost hope, he appeared. They were quite obsessed with him and were very protective. Mrs. Potter was especially sensitive about her only son.
When Sirius moved in with them, their family was already complete. They loved him as much as James. Mrs. Potter immediately asked Sirius to call her "Mom" when he moved in with them.
The Potters had dogs. They loved animals and had 5 dogs that they named after their favorite Quidditch players.

When do you think James started crushing on Lily for real?
For real real, canon-wise, I think early 5th year is a good estimate. He'd be 15 by then, puberty hitting harder, plus he'd be done with the Animagus transformation which would have kept his mind occupied and would likely be ready to devote his attention to something else. James sounds like the person to focus obsessively on whatever interests him.
We also see Snape tell Lily that "Potter fancies you" in a way that sounds like it's not exactly brand new information, but also not old news. So it being a few months' business tracks.
And yes, I think that by that time, it's where the "for real" has already started.
(But also, I have a soft spot for ickle James already having noticed, perhaps even being fascinated by, Lily Evans from very early on. Maybe from the very first moment.)

All I can think about is James and Lily buying Harry his first glasses and since he’s a toddler his glasses have to be strapped to his head and they make his eyes 10x bigger than they actually are and it’s just so freaking cute.

here's some jily headcannons because they're all I can think about lately <3
• Lily has very thick hair, and her bobbles are constantly snapping, so James has at least 3 on his wrist at all times
• James puts too much ink on his quill and runs out very quickly, so Lily keeps a spare pot for him as well as quills cuz he always loses his
• James is a really good liar except when talking to Lily
• Lily blushes easily, and James never fails to remind her how pretty she looks when she blushes (making her blushes more)
• Lily wears combat boots, and James wears Converse (red obvi)
• James spent weeks learning how to braid hair once he found out that Lily couldn't braid at all
• Lily writes with her letters separated and rounded she also hearts her 'i's', James writes cursive and slanted
• Lily is a really good singer, and the first time James and her studied together her singing helped him focus. This then becomes just a thing they do, where if they're doing a task together, Lily sings to keep James focused
• Lily's love language is acts of service/quality time, and James' is physical touch/words of affirmation
I really enjoyed this so let me know if you want more

We often talk about how the problem in the way of Jily's relationship was that she didn't like him or Snape.
But one of the big obstacles to overcome was their difference in blood status.
James was pureblood (he may not have been as ancient as Black) but he came from a respectable, wealthy family. In which, let's not kid ourselves, purity was probably taken care of for a long time.
Lily was a muggleborn.
Probably a lot of people didn't like James chasing after her in 5th year. Doubtless the Slytherin bully her about it, because James (who was popular) was putting her in the spotlight (unknowingly). It is likely that people from the Muggle families did not like it either. That the HeadGirl who represented them was settling with Potter. They probably thought that all Purebloods were the same. I can almost hear them telling Lily that he would toy with her and leave her, and she would be left with the consequences - i.e. attacks and episodes. She's probably heard from someone that she's a traitor to her own or that she's only using James (for the money, for the consequences).
Additionally, Lily was probably more aware than James of what this relationship would entail for them. Because she had been living in a world that didn't want her for 7 years. He, on the other hand, the "Golden Boy" had experienced nothing of the sort. She knew that James would become a blood traitor and would experience bulling and attacks, that he would no longer have the same respect from some of the pure-blooded students. Her situation was bound to get even worse. After all, how can this Mudblood be dating a pureblood. Their relationship was sure to be on everyone's lips. People created theories, rumours.
Before they were together they must have seen what the relationships of other couples at Hogwarts with the same blood status as them looked like. And they were not always happy endings.

Lily was a stress baker.
She poured all her frustrations, nerves and stress into cakes.
When they were hiding James would sometimes come down in the middle of the night to see Lily baking a cheesecake. He would then hug her from behind and say nothing.

Some thoughts on Lily Evans (Headcanons and other musings)
Headcanon things
---I think she really struggled internally about "not belonging" in both the muggle and wizard community. I couldn't imagine finding out I was part of some special group that made my family members ostracize me, THEN joining said new community to find that I am actually discriminated against and considered lesser. I don't think she was on the nerd level of say Hermione, but I think she really wanted to prove herself.
--I don't think she wore a bra. I use this in my fics a lot not just because it could be taken sexy, but because it would've been trendy at the time in the 70s. I think Lily would have kept up with the politics of the muggles and the wizarding world, and I would imagine she would be keen to follow the feminist movement.
--I'm really not of fan of the swarmy, bookish version of Lily that purveyed often in fics (I see more diversity now but back 10 years ago Lily was like some studious angel all the time.) We know she was smart and teachers loved her, but we also see a lot of anger and cheekiness from her too. I think James wouldn’t have been half as attracted to her if she was just a know it all. I imagine she was really sarcastic and quippy.
--I think Lily thought about fancying Remus in earlier years---to the point that in 4th year she turned on him quickly one day during prefects rounds and kissed him, immediately realized she felt nothing, and then they both agreed to stay friends and never speak of it (James would have died if he knew). After then, Lily had the habit of giving him a kiss on the cheek as greeting/goodbye (think of it as the french bisous, not like a real cheek kiss) and Sirius would always joke about "Where his kiss was"---which prompted Lily to draw real close to him ( making James feel jealous and uncomfortable) before yelling at him to fuck off.
--When Sirius and Lily became friends, they really became friends. They both confided in each other about being the family outsiders, they spent lots of study time listening to music, and she was always able to keep up with his sarcastic and self deprecating style of humor. Whenever Sirius would conjure rock music to play in the corridors, Lily always was the last of the prefects to put a stop to it. She would often spend time in the boys dorms even if James wasn't there to shoot the shit with Sirius and she often was his insider into all the cool muggle things he missed out on.
---Petunia peddled the idea that Lily was a "Hippie type" to Vernon and her friends upon being questioned and Lily really leaned into this gladly. She was very amused by the muggle occult craze in the 60s-70s and found a lot of enjoyment visiting muggle "esoteric shops" and getting books from them. This trait would later be adopted by the marauders who would take some of her muggle “occult magic” books and try to reproduce the (ridiculously fake) spells (often leading in explosions or very bad consequences seeing as the muggle “spells” were all a hoax and couldn’t stand up to real magical attempts). When she was home from the summer it was not uncommon for her to be reading a book by Aleister Crowley on the front stoop.
---Lily hated flying despite James' many tries to get her to enjoy it (he mostly liked that she was scared and held onto him more). Contrary to this, she loved Sirius motorbike. It felt more natural to her despite still being a flying object ( and despite both James and Sirius flying it in the most haphazard way possible.)
--One thing that drew Lily to James was his interest and love for muggle pop culture. I imagine Lily tried often to get Snape to listen to Joni Mitchell or have a laugh at how muggles depicted wizards/witches in film, but Snape didn't see the worth in doing those things---wanting to focus on the wizarding world. James on the other hand ate all of it up--he would jump at the chance to watch Carrie or The Wicker Man. Even before dating James, I think Snape's disdain for all things muggle was off putting to Lily, who saw just as much to learn from muggles as she did from the wizarding world.
Reference things
---I base a lot of my fic Petunia/Lily relationships off of the British show Fleabag. I HIGHLY recommend it and I think its a great example of two sisters who are completely at odds with each other. I think Lily and Petunia's relationship would be much more complicated obviously due to their reasoning for falling out, but I think in general its a great depiction of two sisters who don't get along. I admittedly have cradled their dialogue patterns for scenes. ( Its on Amazon prime really really really go watch it its amazing)
---One of my big references for Lily ( and James for that matter) is Paul Thomas Anderson's Licorice Pizza. I think the love story of the two main characters who are at odds against the world really works and its the typical Jily "one is madly in love with the other and does schemes to win her over while she's sarcastic and wary and grows to love him despite it all." Its also the 70s which helps a lot ( for me). I think also Alana Haim's character is a perfect lily as she's someone who is a bit lost despite having everything going for her on paper. I highly reccomend it if you haven't seen it.

Some James (and Potter family) Headcanon
Because I always seem to fixate on Lily hc and he needs some love:
---James didn't really chase after Lily because she was pretty, intelligent, and cheeky (though those helped) but rather because she was a challenge for him. Not in the sense that she said no for years and he loved the chase, but because Lily as a person really expanded his worldview. Due to his extremely coddled upbringing and lush life due to his blood status/ quidditch ability, James always gravitated to people that made his life more difficult in an enriching way: Sirius was the first person to ever "hit back" with his own antics and not shy away from taking the piss out of him, Remus had a troubled life completely foreign to James that provided lots of apparent troubles but also made James see bravery in a new light, and Peter made him a mentor figure who saw merit even in meekness. Lily came from a different background from him and despite having a temper was highly rational and never reactionary even when faced with discrimination. Despite growing up in one of the hardest times to be a muggleborn, she overcame it. She found meaning and joy in even the darkest places ( her friendship with Snape being the most difficult of examples to understand.) and made James better because she didn't resign to looking at the world like he did, but rather sharpened his vision of it.
--Of all the many muggle movies Lily showed James, his absolute favorite was Harold and Maude ( Hal Ashby 1971). It was the first time he had ever seen a depiction of mortality really laid out in front of him and it was the first time Lily ever saw him cry.
--Nothing made James more angry than when Lily would be harassed for her blood status and the fact that she was dating him. This feeling was often left unresolved as Lily refused to let him retaliate, saying it was stooping to their level to fight back.
---While also having just natural unruly hair, James like keeping his hair unkept because it was an act of rebellion from his parents who acquired the family fortune on hair taming products. He felt like it brought a sense of irony to the household.
---I feel like this one MUST be canon: James hated Snape for a lot of reasons but I think the biggest was that he was so close to Lily for so long and James was never so lucky. Then, once Snape started to be into dark magic it was all the more reason to detest him.
--I know everyone loves Fleamont, but I am always partial to thinking about Euphemia Potter because there is so little known about her. I like to think she was a very eccentric and worldly person who gave her interest in muggle things to her son. I have this image of her listening to 1960s muggle zamrock around the house ( artists like WITCH and Amanaz---60s trippiness meets African traditional music). For a while I had this headcanon that she worked directly with the Statue of Secrecy Department ( hence why she met the Potters' in the first place due to Henry Potter's influence) so she was very up to date on the very thin line squibs and muggles would walk into either finding or revealing the wizarding world (like how hilarious would it be if someone like Alejandro Jodowosky or David Lynch was a squib and Euphemia was their case worker and had to call them up and be like "Cutie, you are giving away too much, take it down a notch" so they don't accidentally reveal wizard secrets.) For this reason her and Lily got along really well.
--James really loved to read! Everyone always makes James this jock, prankster bad boy but the kid was super smart ( I mean he became an animangus and made the marauders map--its literally canon). He had loads of books on Transfiguration and mostly read nonfiction, but Lily got him to read more fiction and muggle works once they got together. He was more practical about his reading though and was not very interested in the more existential topics that Sirius would often carry around.
--When he found out Lily was pregnant he quit the order on the spot. No questions asked. Lily was annoyed by this for a while. He pulled them out of missions before she had even finished her first trimester and even so she felt like he would have been much more helpful out on the field then playing house with her at home (especially when she wasn't even showing yet). Lily even wanted to keep doing missions until she was farther in her pregnancy, but James was beside himself about the idea of her continuing to be in danger while pregnant. It was one of the biggest fights they ever had and ended with James crying, which immediately broke Lily down.

Catch the Wind Authors Note:

(Art Source @blvnk-art)
Hi all! Since I'm already at my 13th (!) chapter on this work, I figured I'd clean house:
I saw that ch. 1-5 were badly formatted due to a glitch on AO3 so I just went and cleaned them up. Also I "slightly" changed the name of the fic from "Change in the Wind" to Catch the Wind---which is a Donovan song reference which feels quite fitting ( my fav version of the song here!). Finally, I changed the rating on AO3 from its original Mature to Explicit---due to obvious reasons.
If you have been following this fic since the beginning: really thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you haven't and want to check it out here's the link! I'll continue to try to post/repost the artwork that inspires certain scenes immediately after the chapters drop. I love any feedback so comment away or come talk to me here! <3

Simple Math
Remus notices something is off about James and Lily at the Prefect's meeting.Written for Jily Week 2024, Day 1: Hair
Thank you @sunshinemarauder and @kay-elle-cee for hosting the event :) AO3 Link Here
Remus walked his way to McGonagall’s office feeling every footfall as he went. He was already knackered from the full moon earlier that week, but on top of things Sirius and Peter had thrown a bender the night before, importing as much contraband firewhiskey they could supply in order to turn the Gryffindor common room into a disco dance hall.
Their prefect meeting couldn't be helped, if not now transformed into its own mode of punishment as it was McGonagall herself who had to break up the party, padding her way into the common room in her night robes. Even Sirius cowered as she laid eyes on her very own Head Boy and Girl in the middle of the dance floor grinding away like it was some wizarding Studio 54.
Remus lit a cigarette and took a few drags as he approached the second floor. A group of prefects stood idly by the door, talking amongst themselves and looking rather irritated.
“All right?” Remus called to Cornelia, a Hufflepuff prefect who was eyeing the door with frustration.
“The door’s locked—that or it’s been enchanted, I think everyone has given a go at unlocking it.”
Remus pulled out his wand and did a half hearted flourish. Alohomora
Instead of the lock popping open, a sound that resembled a muggle game show buzzer went off.
Remus snuffed out his cigarette.
“D’you know if Lily and James have arrived yet?” He asked.
“I haven’t seen them, but Trevor said he saw them at breakfast. They told him they had to prepare some things before the meeting.”
Uh huh.
Remus sighed deeply.
“Alright then, uh, can everyone just humor me and stand back for a second.” All of the younger prefects who had nervously crowded the door moved without hesitation.
Bombarda. The young prefects instinctively covered their ears and faces, expecting the door to blast open. Instead, the door remained very much intact, instead making the same buzzing noise as before.
Ah christ. The other prefects started to whisper. He heard a fourth year asking someone if they should be worried about a death eater attack. While Remus could admit that that would be certainly worse, he still wasn’t too pleased with what was actually happening.
There was some scuffling noise behind the door and the prefect’s chatter dissipated. The door lurched open and James stood in the doorway.
“Oi, Which one of you is trying to destroy Hogwarts’ property?” he barked out. Behind him, Lily was already leaning on McGonagall's desk.
“I realize that punctuality is key around these circles, but patience is a virtue,” James tutted, opening the door further to let the stream of prefects enter.
Remus gave James a one over. His hair was messy–ok that's a given, but his shirt was looking rather creased. It stuck out of his pants in a clearly haphazard attempt to tuck in. To an untrained eye, this wouldn’t be so suspicious—James was often looking a bit rugged when he came to class.
The real tip off was Lily. Even as the prefects took their seats, she ran her hand through her hair, attempting to smooth the ruffled parts. Her uniform was unbuttoned two buttons lower than her usual fit, and her tie looked off kilter.
It was simple math really, but perhaps because Remus was feeling charitable, he assumed better for the Head Boy and Girl. Afterall, he had first-hand witnessed the two at the party last night, a couple fire whiskeys deep and not shying away from the powdery muggle drug that Sirius was passing through the crowd. (“When I do a themed party, Moony, I do the fuck out of it”)
Remus sat in the front row and watched James join Lily at the front of the classroom. James started off with the newest patrol round schedules, while Lily continued to comb at her hair, catching little knots and picking them apart with her fingers. Her eyes focused on James’ speaking with such intensity, Remus felt like he was witnessing something private. Her mouth parted a bit and Remus took note that her lips were looking more plump and swollen than usual….
They must be bloody fucking joking.
Remus tried to focus instead on James who was garbling his way through the most boring information imaginable. On second inspection, his hair was sticking out much farther than usual—not in the way that resembled getting off his broomstick, but rather like if someone stood over him and tugged furiously upwards. James turned to Lily who had been maintaining her gaze, all the while still attempting to tame her hair. He stumbled a bit on his words; then miraculously forgot what he was saying entirely.
Of all days, they picked the one where he was too hungover to even enjoy their embarrassment.
After the meeting, Remus didn’t even wait for Lily and James. He went straight back to the boys’ dorm and threw himself on his bed. A muffled groan came in the direction of Sirius’ bed.
“What time is it mate?” Sirius sounded completely wrecked.
“Almost noon.”
“Merlin’s tits. That was some party. I feel like death.”
The door opened and James entered and collapsed on his bed, face first, his glasses skewed on his face.
“Fuck yes. Bed,” he spoke into the mattress.
“How was your meeting, darling,” Sirius cooed at James, still appearing comatose from his own bed.
Remus found his in. “Don’t worry, he had a real swell time. Our noble Head Boy and Girl made sure to be perfectly satisfied before their meeting.”
Sirius’ head shot up from the pillow. “Woah Woah, Jamsie….you know better than to shag on the job tsk tsk.”
James propped himself up on his arms. “What were we supposed to do? The whole tower was crawling with people last night. Can’t a loving couple get thie—”
Sirius threw a pillow at James' head, which James was too hungover to dodge. “You looked pretty well taken care of while dancing last night. Half expected you both to just lay right down and go at it in front of everyone.”
James mumbled something sounding like a half-hearted dissent. From the other side of the room Peter’s cracked voice spoke up.
“I heard them in here too…I came up here to sleep and they forgot to close the curtains…”
James made a loud groan.
“I hope you're proud of yourself,” Sirius tutted, mimicking James’ mom’s tone.
There was a silence.
“---Was it really that obvious—at the meeting I mean?”
Remus lit a cigarette and leaned back.
“James, let me put it this way. I know exactly where your hands have been from the look of Lily’s hair alone.”

Love is in the Hair
Jily Week August Day 1
@kay-elle-cee and @sunshinemarauder , Thanks for the opportunity.
Lily entered the wedding venue fairly early in the morning. There was a lot to be done if they wanted to follow the schedule. She took in the view and all the ongoing preparations and sucked in a nervous breath. This was it. One of the most important moments in her life to date. Her wedding. She repeated the word in her mouth. She had been so swept in with all the needed preparations, Order work and excitement that she had no moment to feel this anxiety. Her past with James flashed in her mind. Their first date, first kiss, first time together, moving in and now this.
The flashback however did not ease her worries down. If anything, it just reminded her that they were awfully young and the circumstances the wizarding world was currently in. They were, after all, just nineteen. Nineteen and fighting a war that did not look like it would end anytime soon. Was that the reason they were getting married so soon? Because they wanted to hold on to that fleeting chance of happiness in this drowning world of desperation. Would they have gotten married if they were a normal couple and not shackled by the restraints of this life? Only because of love and not a ticking time bomb threatening their very existence.
Were these pre-wedding jitters or was she genuinely rethinking her decision now just before the wedding? Just as she as she was lost in her thoughts, she saw two men enter from the other side. Up close she saw James explaining something to Sirius with exaggerated hand gestures and Sirius shaking his head in amusement. In both of them, she saw something she had not seen in months. Genuine joy without a smidge of worry, carefree laughter and a relaxed stance. She knew how rare and precious they were especially now. Somehow James turned exactly at that moment and looked right into Lily’s eyes. Pools of hazel on liquid green. James smiled at her and ran his fingers through his unruly hair distractedly. It was exactly this simple yet familiar action that managed to calm her down. It reminded her of all those times he fiddled with his hair strands. It was just so like her James.
She knew it then and there that she would marry this man despite and whatever situation, world or age they were in. There wasn’t a single thing that could keep her away from him. She had fallen for the boy he was at sixteen and was going to get married to the man she adored and loved at nineteen. And she would not change it for anything. Love filled all the emptied pores in her body as she smiled and rushed towards him.
James was feeling giddy from the moment he woke up. He was never known to have less energy but today he was more lively than usual. He wanted to meet his fifteen-year-old self today and reassure him that he was indeed going to marry the witch of her dreams. From the moment he fantasized about his wedding, he saw Lily Evans as his bride in those daydreams. Love for James was always a sacred concept. As he grew up under its warm shelter, he saw sheer power and impact love could have on people’s lives. Now though for James, the word love was synonymous to Lily. His Lily.
He entered the venue joking around with Sirius as he saw Lily looking at him. Even in the most mundane clothes, she looked like an angel glowing just for him. As she jumped into his arms, he caught her and twirled her around. Happiness was flowing unbridled in both their faces as they kissed each other. They felt their world click into place as their bodies fit against each other. Later in their honeymoon suite, after the wedding and fresh from their lovemaking, Lily would recall her nervousness about the wedding. She would surmise that it was his running his fingers through his hair that broke her anxious spell. The very one habit she had once claimed to hate, then loved secretly and fantasized about doing it herself and then ran her fingers through his hair whenever she could. James would just do that for her again for the sake of it and they would break into delightful laughter and somehow that would lead them back to each other again.

Lily Evans is endorsed by McGonagall to be the Quidditch commentator because they "need someone unbiased but who is still a gryffindor" and who "has the capability to actually learn more about the game." So Lily starts the microphone up, ready to do her best and impress her teacher, yet somehow turns bright red whenever James Potter in his uniform and sweating passes by and winks at her (something he does more and more when he notices she likes it).
Eventually, McGonagall has to choose a new gryffindor, because too many audience members complained that the commentator A. repeatedly got distracted and would trail off and B. could be heard flirting with the star player during the game multiple times.
McGonagall, of course, knew this would happen all along.
