is it controversial to say ive never met a krper who was a fetishist #lol... most of the time it was just people who happened to have an interest in kpop and the k-industry, so naturally they'll use a fc of someone they like. it helps with muse. im sure it does happen, im just not sure it happens so often.

the only issue I'd run into is the misportrayal of some key cultural elements that they never include in their roleplay (using honorifics, bowing, taking their shoes off when entering the house, head bobble) and when things like that ARE portrayed, the mun gets labeled as an asiaboo. its deemed "cringe" when a character calls another hyung, senpai, gege, kuya, abang, etcetera, but there isnt a term in english to replace these words, and by not using them at all, you're removing the context of how your character speaks. it always bothered me, as an asian person. i always thought it was more respectful to portray an asian character—especially if they grew up with the culture and environment, let alone LIVE in said countries—who carry out customs. it's just respectful to the culture of your oc. and people will get it wrong. they do all the time. but trying is better than removing it completely in my opinion.

in an attempt to not fetishize or romanticize another culture, we end up misportraying that culture as a whole.

ok sooo…. as a former krp mun (sorry i was dense and new to discord rp so i didn’t realize krp didn’t just mean it was set in korea) i can say that the general attitude towards east asian muses definitely has the inverse affect. nearly every writer i talked to back then said they joined a krp because their muses were flat out ignored or avoided in other spaces. now this was def an excuse for many *whispers* white people but i met many asian muns that told me this too, and muns that wrote a pretty diverse list elsewhere but kept their east asian muses in krp. i actually joined my first krp after joining a america college rp where both me and my friend’s asian muses were completely ignored to the point people didn’t even interact with our plot calls while the entirely white group plotted with each other right in our faces! and mind you she was a very popular fc. this was the second or third time i tried to write an asian muse and got 0 plots so my friend suggested we join a krp so we could develop them like we wanted, not knowing what we were getting into. if you scroll through jcink gossip blogs you’ll see the same thing. kpop/east asian muses being avoided because they accuse them of having a fetish or because they say they “just don’t like kpop faces” even though the face isn’t even from kpop. they just see a youthful korean man and assume he’s a kpopper. also while they use sabrina carpenter faceclaims who is just a pop idol too but she’s seen as being more legitimate i guess. kpop faces completely banned because they’re trying to get rid of the fetishists while allowing 99% of their taken list to be white people who describe their skin as pale and pure or something else pretty racist in paras. like how is that not also creepy and fetish? so definitely not saying we should go back on being against the creeps of kpop or anything but i agree that everyone is so fixated on it that i think there’s a subtle racism that’s just sort of allowed because the excuse is against racist kpoppies. most of rp are white people that will only write as or interact with white people but there’s not nearly as much of an effort in stopping that. idk where i was going with this i just hope it contributes something to the convo. 😭
