Is Operations Management a good career option?

Operations management is chiefly concerned with planning, organizing and supervising in the contexts of production, manufacturing or the provision of services. As such, it is delivery-focused, ensuring that an organization successfully turns inputs to outputs in an efficient manner. The inputs themselves could represent anything from materials, equipment and technology to human resources such as staff or workers.

Every organization needs good operations management as a core quality to sustain itself. And thus, Operations Management has been and will continue to be a sought after field of management. However, we have to admit that there is still some amount of gender biasness related to the prospects of operations management for women. For example, some factories would avoid women in the role of operations managers to avoid any safety concerns related to their interactions with factory workers.

Apart from technical knowledge, Operations Management requires excellent planning and leadership skills, both of which may not be obtained from just studies and as such, a good experiential learning curriculum is a prerequisite for an Operations Management course.
