There are some types of doll photos I really enjoy: Family pictures of the whole gang, shelf or display pictures, and... factory vs owner pics. So allow me to show you my three Doll Chateau girls! :)
They're all on the K-01 resp. the K-05 body without extra joints. I love the pear shape and the proportions, and I have a lot of fun sewing for them.
The jointed hands are even more of a delight than anticipated - I'm aiming to get them for all my DC kids.
The sculpts:
Saffran | DC Bella, my first DC and first MSD in general! To me, Bella is DC's best sculpt to date. I bought it on the strength of the blank head, their initial sales pics were wild! 😄
Best features: The itty-bitty mouth and soft nose. The sculpt is very versatile, sometimes I like to google Bella and just browse the different interpretations.
Cons: The cat eye and pouty mouth can make Saffran look bitchy from the wrong angle.
Ingwer | DC Queena: I got Ingwer second-hand with the factory faceup, and I didn't fall in love straight away. The blank sculpt isn't the strongest either imho. This face up convinced me Queena had potential.
Best feature: Her eyes are huge! Much larger than my other DC girls. For me, Ingwer also improved a lot with strategic eyeliner.
Cons: The profile is frankly weird, with very strong jaws. She photographs best full frontal.
Fenchel | DC Twinkle: This is the one where I fully love both the blank sculpt and the default faceup.
Best feature: The shape of the eyes, though I think what DC did with them in the promo pics is also awesome. (Confession: I tried to add a double eyelid line to my faceup but I just couldn't hack it 😅)
Cons: The mouth would be quite large if fully coloured. I have the same issue with a Dollzone boy I own - idk what's the reasoning for sculpting it that way?
Also, I asked DC for a human version, but that wasn't possible. The ears are very pointy and pokey, so I gathered my courage and snipped the tips off, then just sanded them round. It was easier than I thought, and looks a lot nicer than I'd feared. 😄

I'm not actively looking to expand my collection but I'll keep an eye out on the second-hand market for any other cool DC sculpts coming up. I really regret I missed Lance. If space was no constraint, I'd also love a second Bella to take in the opposite direction from Saffran. 😄
Introducing Bea! She’s a Bluefairy Olive and is a soft, sweet girl. A bit dark academia, a bit cottage core. Featuring a hand knitted jumper I made and span the wool for on my spinning wheel, and a walking skirt I made from brown wool.
So earlier this week on Instagram I saw a video about dyeing fabric/buttons/wigs using crepe paper. The video specified it wouldn't work on natural fibers so my first thought was "uh, sounds like the products people use to dye bjd".
My second thought was of course "uh, I wonder if it really would work on dolls."
So of course I bought some crepe paper, and did some mad science.
The instructions said to cut the paper in stripes, put it in boil it water, remove it once the dye had leached into the water, and then put the item into the water.
Left is a hand after being dyed, right is the control hand, undyed. I used pink and red paper (because pink alone really wasn't showing anything). So, it does work on resin!
Second step was to check if it could be removed
I've used acetone (left on the picture) and 90 degrees alcohol (right on the picture) and both worked.
Mind you, this was done just a few minutes after the dyeing. I have since redyed the hand, and i'll try again to remove the colour in some days/some weeks to check if this stained the resin, and if it's still easily removed.
I'm not sure how well you can control the saturation and shade with this method, compared to using normal synthetic dyes. But if you feel like experimenting and if things like rit dyemore are hard to find where you are, this can be an option. Just be prepare for a bit of mess, and keep in mind for now I don't know how this affectes the resin long term.
Well that answers that haha. Thanks for looking that up!
My MSC is running out, and it's a little pricey/hard to come by right now. I saw Krylon UV resistant clear in the related on Amazon--does anyone have any experience with it/opinions on it as a sealant?

More process pictures! Mugi is my perfect excuse to buy cute dresses 🥰
The original idea was to make the torso split into 3 parts, with a ball in the middle just because I liked the aesthetics of the ball, but it did not improve the posability (unless I changed the overall shape of the body, but I didn't want to), so at the end I decided to make it into 2 pieces, so it matches the other bodies!
Also redid some joints digitally, so they look way more neat. Making joints and pieces that are more technical is always harder to do by hand, like neat edges and perfect spheres. So being able to make them digitally is a time saver. Just so you can make an idea, it took me several days to make the piece on the left and the surface is still not smooth. For the piece on the right, it took me 30 minutes to sculpt it digitally, and 1 hour to get it printed. It's just too fast and easy 🥹
Mugi current status is practically finished! But before sending her to the casting factory, I want to digitalize her. First of all, because I want to make a human version of her head, with no horns. But also because the casting factory waiting times have gone up like crazy, and I don't want to wait for +5 months to play with Mugi, so I will print a copy to play in the meantime 🥲
Head is all smooth and soft 🥰
I sculpted a lot of hands in cute poses and I want them to be easily interchangeable with magnets, but making hands is super tedious 🥲 Sanding between the fingers, make sure all nails have the same overall shape in all hands...It's the only part that I still have to finish 💔
Last but not least! Please let me introduce you to MeiFang or MeiMei!
My most requested doll has always been an MSD Fang. I KNOW. I am fully aware that this is NOT what people have been asking me to do 😅 But since I don't think I will make a MSD mature Fang (let's say, a shrunk version of the current one) I decided to make a child version of her! I adjusted the features accordingly to the age change, so the eyes are larger and rounder, the nose and mouth are smaller, and her cheeks are puffier. Really hope people still appreciates her 🫶
I am sending you a virtual snack If you read until this! 😆
