Celebrities We Lost in 2020
January
Kobe Bryant
World famous basketball legend Kobe Bryant passed away in January alongside his 13 year old daughter and 9 others in Los Angeles. Bryant was just 41 years old when his life ended unexpectedly. Bryant, his daughter and 9 others were involved in a helicopter crash which sadly resulted in their deaths and shocked millions around the world.

Rocky Johnson
Rocky Johnson was a former professional wrestler whose son would go on to follow in his footsteps, and become known as The Rock.
The WWE superstar was known for becoming the first African-American WWE tag team champion and was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2008.
Sadly, Rocky passed away at the age of 75.

Neil Peart
2020 saw the loss of one of rock’s greatest drummers, Rush’s Neil Peart. His unique sound brought the band’s music and live shows to life and many considered him the greatest drummer of all time.
In 2016, he was diagnosed with brain cancer, a year after announcing his retirement from drumming. He passed away at the age of 67.

Harry Hains
Actor turned musician, Harry Hains, passed away at the age of 27 to fentanyl intoxication.
Hains was most known for his appearance in American Horror Story: Hotel. 
After his sudden death, his mother said in a statement that he had suffered from mental illness and addicition.

February
Caroline Flack
British television host and Strictly Come Dancing winner, Caroline Flack, committed suicide in February after finding out she was going to be prosecuted for the alleged assault of her then boyfriend, and grew anxious of how the press and public would react to the trial. 
The host, most known for Love Island, is loved by many who continue to fight for her after her death.

Dieter Laser
Dieter Laser, most known for his role as the twisted surgeon in the horror movie The Human Centipede, sadly passed away at the age of 75. 
Laser was praised by horror fans all over the world for his incredible acting in the movie, and was described as “a unique human being and an iconic actor” by the movie’s director.

Pop Smoke
Rapper, Pop Smoke, was only 20 years old when he was tragically murdered in his Hollywood home. The news shocked the rap community and many rappers including 50 Cent and Nicki Minaj paid tribute to the young star.

Nikita Pearl Waligwa
Nikita was a young child actress who sadly passed away at the age of 15. The young Disney star was most known for her role in Queen of Katwe.
Doctors informed Nikita and her family that she had a brain tumour, and had been given the all clear 12 months later, however another one appeared, which sadly led to her passing.

John Shrapnell
John Shrapnell was an incredible stage, film and voice actor. He is most know for his role in 101 Dalmations, The Duchess and Alien Autopsy. 
Movie fans around the world paid tribute to the actor who passed away at the age of 77.

Raphael Coleman
Raphael Coleman was a child actor who was most known for his role in Nanny McPhee. He went on to fight for climate change and protect wildlife. 
His family reported that Coleman had suffered a trip which tragically ended his life at the age of 25.

Kenny Rogers
American singer-songwriter, and Country legend, Kenny Rogers sadly passed away at the age of 81. His music career spanned 6 decades, and country fans all around the world hailed him a musical icon and hero.

Michel Roux
Michel Roux was a world famous French chef who opened his first restaurant in London, England alongside his brother in 1967. The restaurant would later become the first in the UK to receive a Michelin star, as well as many awards throughout the years.
Michel was 78 when he lost his life to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Max Von Sydow
Max Von Sydow is perhaps one of the most versatile actors, having starred in everything from Star Wars to The Exorcist, James Bond and Game of Thrones to name a few. The Swedish actor had a career which spanned 7 decades, and saw him earn numerous awards.
Max passed away in his home in France aged 90.

Terrance McNally
Tony winning American playwright Terrance McNally was considered to many as the greatest playwright of our time. His career spanned 6 decades and was known for his same sex shows. The writer was openly gay and explored same sex relationships and how people connect.
Terrance would sadly become known as one of the first celebrities who passed away from the coronavirus.

Sir Stirling Moss
Sir Stirling Moss was considered a Formula 1 legend. Although he had famously never won the title, he had finished runner-up 4 times and also came third 3 times. The race car driver had also won an incredible 16 Grands Prix.
He had retired in 1962 after a crash which had left him in a coma for a month.
He passed away at the age of 90.

Bill Withers
Music legend, Bill Withers, sadly passed away at the age of 81 due to heart complications. The musician was loved for his many hits including “Ain’t No Sunshine”, “Lovely Day” and “Just The Two Of Us”.
Bill had earned 3 Grammy awards and had become known as an icon. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2015 by fellow musician Stevie Wonder.

Irrfan Khan
Irrfan Khan was an Indian actor who was one of the first to consistently play roles in Western movies, leading him to become known to movie fans outside of India through his roles in Life of Pi, and Slumdog Millionaire.
The Bollywood star was 53 when he sadly passed away from cancer in a Mumbai hospital.

Rishi Kapoor
Just days after Irrfan Khan’s passing, Bollywood lost another movie legend. Rishi Kapoor was one of India’s most well known actors, having appeared in over 90 movies from a child to a grown man. Like Irrfan, sadly Rishi passed away from cancer, aged 67.

Lynn Faulds Woods
Glasgow born Lynn Faulds Woods was a presenter and journalist. The Scot was most known for presenting the programme Watchdog with her husband John Stapleton. 
She sadly passed away after suffering a stroke aged 72.

Adam Schlesinger
Adam Schlesinger was a singer-songwriter, and founding member of the band Fountains of Wayne, most known for their song “Stacey’s Mom”.
Sadly the bass player tested positive for coronavirus, and passed away at the age of 52. He will be remembered by his many fans and supporters.

Dave Greenfield
Dave Greenfield was a singer-songwriter and a member of the rock band The Stranglers, most known for their song “Golden Brown”. He played with the band for 45 years until his death.
Unfortunately Dave also lost his life after testing positive to the coronavirus, aged 71.

Jerry Stiller
Comedian, actor and author Gerald Stiller, known to the world as Jerry, was most known for his role in sitcom Seinfeld. He was the father of actor Ben Stiller, and appeared in many movies alongside his son, including Zoolander. 
He passed away at the age of 92 from natural causes.

Roy Horn
Roy Horn was a magician best known as one half of the Las Vegas duo Siegfried & Roy who were known for their incredible shows which involved lions and tigers.
Sadly in 2003, Roy was mauled by a tiger during a live performance, which left him with a severed spine amongst other injuries, causing him to lose the ability to move, speak and walk. 
Roy passed away at the age of 75 after testing positive for coronavirus.

Shad Gaspard
Shad Gaspard was a WWE wrestler, who fought as a duo under the name Cryme Time, with fellow wrestler JTG.
Shad was just 39 years old when he tragically died. He was with his 10 year old son when they were caught in a rip tide. Initially the water was just waist deep but this quickly changed. The WWE legend pleaded for lifeguards to save his son over his own, and when he didn’t appear from the water, he was considered missing. 
Sadly, just days later, Shad’s body was found. Shad will be remembered as a hero for the way he saved his son. His last words were reportedly “just secure my son. Rescue my son.”

Millie Small
Jamaican born Millie Small was most known for her song “My Boy Lollipop” which was released in the 1960s. It was the first Jamaican single to sell over a million copies and became a hit around the world.
Small sadly died at the age of 72.

Vera Lynn
Vera Lynn was known to millions for the wartime classic song “We’ll Meet Again”. Despite being 103, she had performed the hit a couple of weeks before her passing during the worldwide coronavirus pandemic to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day. In one of her last interviews, she said Britains should do what they can to help each other during the pandemic.

Willie Thorne
British snooker legend Willie Thorne, who won the Mercantile Credit Classic in 1982, was loved by many and was considered a “marvellous snooker player” by friend Gary Lineker. Willie passed away at age 66 after it was revealed he had cancer.

Sushant Singh Rajput
Sushant Singh Rajput was a Bollywood actor who appeared in several films including “Kai Po Che” and Netflix Original “Drive”.
He was only 34 when he was found dead at his home in Mumbai. While his death was initially ruled a suicide, there was a lot of speculation which resulted in people believing it could in fact have been a murder. The case is still being investigated.

Louis Mahoney
Louis Mahoney was a Gambian born actor, most known for his role in Doctor Who and Fawlty Towers. Louis also fought for racial equality within the industry and was highly praised for doing so. 
He passed away at the age of 81.

Sir Ian Holm
Sir Ian Holm was an actor most famously known for his role as Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings. 
His agent released a statement saying the actor had died peacefully surrounded by his family and carer at age 88.

Kelly Preston
Kelly Preston was an actress and model who appeared in over 60 TV and film productions, most famously Jerry Maguire alongside Tom Cruise. The actress was married to fellow actor John Travolta.
Kelly was diagnosed with breast cancer, and chose to keep the news private. Sadly she passed away at the age of 57.

Naya Rivera
Naya Rivera was an actress most known for her role in the musical TV series Glee. She was loved by many and would later be considered a hero after her death. Naya had went on a boating trip with her son 4 year old son Josey, however alarms were raised when the boy was found by himself, alone on the boat. Unfortunately, her body was found days later, and she was confirmed dead at 33 years old.

Ennio Morricone
Ennio Morricone, known as The Maestro, was a composer who had been writing since the age of 6. Throughout his life, he wrote over 1000 classicial works, and over 400 scores for feature films including “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly”.
Sadly Ennio suffered complications after a fall, and would later die at the age of 91.

Nick Cordero
Canadian born Nick Cordero was a Broadway Actor who had starred in Rock of Ages and A Bronx Tale. He passed away at the age of 41 after complications from coronavirus which had led to his right leg being amputated.

Peter Green
Peter Green was a musician who founded Fleetwood Mac alongside drummer and friend Mick Fleetwood. Peter had left the band in the 70s as he was struggling with his mental health.
Peter died aged 73, with Mick Fleetwood leading tributes with the following statement: “"my dearest friend(...)(we) trail blazed one hell of a musical road for so many to enjoy."

Chadwick Boseman
The world was shocked when the death of Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman was announced.
The actor had already been considered a hero by his many fans for his role in Black Panther, as the first big budget superhero movie with a black actor, and was the first superhero movie to get an Oscar nomination for best picture.
His death had been announced when he was at the height of his career, aged 43, and left fans shocked as it was revealed he had privately been suffering from colon cancer. This led to fans praising Chadwick for continuing to work through his pain and his bravery.
Chadwick was also praised for his kindness when actress Sienna Miller revealed that Chadwick had insisted on taking a paycut for the movie “21 Bridges” so they would both have an equal salary.

Jack Sherman
Jack Sherman was an American born guitarist known as the second guitarist to have joined the legendary rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, in between Hillel Slovak's departure and return. 
He died at the age of 64 of a heart attack.

Chi Chi DeVayne
Chi Chi DeVayne was a well known drag queen who had participated in the reality TV series, RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Chi Chi passed away at the age of 34, after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

Toots Hibbert
Toots Hibbert was the frontman of reggae group Toots And The Maytals, known for their hits including “Monkey Man” and “54-46 That's My Number”.
The group were considered poineers of reggae and were said to be the reason for the growth and popularity of reggae around the world. Toots’ voice was often compared to singer Otis Redding.
Toots would perform regularly up until his death at age 77.

Michael Lonsdale was an actor most known for his role as a James Bond villain, Hugo Drax. His career spanned over 6 decades, and he acted in over 100 film productions.
He died of old age at his home peacefully, aged 89.

Sean Connery
Scottish born actor Sean Connery was most known for his role as James Bond, and is considered the greatest James Bond by fans. The role turned him into a Hollywood superstar overnight and cemented his legend status.
His career spanned 7 decades which seen him act in many movies including The Untouchables and Indiana Jones.
The actor passed away in his sleep in the Bahamas, aged 90.

Eddie Van Halen
Rock legend Eddie Van Halen, was a singer-songwriter, and guitarist in the band Van Halen.
Eddie is considered to be one of the greatest guitarists in rock history and was was well known for popularising the tapping guitar solo technique.
He passed away aged 65, after a battle with cancer. The band released a statement after his death saying they would be disbanding as you can’t have Van Halen without Eddie Van Halen.

Bobby Ball was a loved actor, comic and singer who was best known as part of the comic duo Cannon and Ball, alongside Tommy Cannon.
Sadly he lost his life after testing positive for coronavirus aged 76.

Marge Champion
Marge Champion was a model, dancer and actress who famously modelled for Disney’s animation of Snow White. At just 14 years old, she was the muse for Snow White, as her father was friends with Walt Disney.
The Disney legend passed away at her home aged 101.

Conchata Ferell
Conchata Ferell was an actress most known for her role in TV series Two and a Half Men. The actress was a fan favourite and went on to be nominated for 2 Emmy awards.
She died aged 77 as a result of complications from a cardiac arrest. She was remembered for being a kind and sweet person by her fellow actors.

Johnny Nash
Johnny Nash was an American singer-songwriter who is known for his song “I Can See Clearly Now”, and was one of the first non-Jamaican singers to record reggae music in Kingston.
The singer had sold millions of records throughout his career before dropping out of the spotlight in the 80s.
Johnny died of natural causes aged 80.

Archie Lyndhurst was a child actor, and son of Only Fools and Horses legend Nicholas Lyndhurst. Archie appeared in many productions including Bad Education and Casualty.
He died aged 19.

Luis Troyano was a finalist in TV series Great British Bake Off and will be remembered for his kind personality.
Following his appearance on the show, Luis shared his love of baking through cooking classes and his book “Bake It Great”.
Luis lost his life to cancer aged 49.

Diego Maradona was an Argentine professional football player and manager, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest football players of all time.
The sports legend sadly died aged 60 after having a heart attack. Following his sudden death, Argentina held three days of national mourning.

Des O’Connor was a comedian, singer and TV presenter, with a career spanning several decades. Following his death, a host of celebrities and fans paid tribute to the presenter, sharing memories of his life.
Des passed away aged 88, after a fall at his home.

David Prowse, known to the world as Darth Vader for his portrayal as the legendary Star Wars villain, was a bodybuilder, weightlifter and characer actor in both TV and film.
Following a short illness, David sadly passed away at the age of 85.

John died at home, aged 67.

Barbara Windsor
Barbara Windsor was a British actress most famous for her role as Peggy Mitchell in the British soap Eastenders. The actress is considered a soap legend, and a national treasure. Barbara had played the role on and off since the 1990s, and was one of the show’s most loved, and popular characters.
In later years, Barbara suffered from dementia, which led to her eventual death, aged 83.

Jeremy Bulloch
Jeremy Bulloch was a Star Wars legend, who played the character of the Bounty Hunter Boba Fett in the original Star Wars Trilogy. 
The character was considered a classic, and has since reemerged in The Madalorian. 
Jeremy lived with Parkinson’s disease for several years, and sadly lost his life aged 75.
