Something that can be done to help autistic people: if we're ever rude, or are too blunt about something, misread a social cue, or hurt your feelings, give us the benefit of the doubt. Odds are we're probably not even aware of what we did and had no intention of upsetting you. It can be very easy for us to make social blunders without realizing it. Just explain what we did and how it hurt you, so we can make an effort to do better in the future

We've all heard of F/Os comforting you and helping with trauma, but how about the reverse?

Gently, lovingly coaxing a touch starved, socially outcast F/O into being okay with hugs and then affection. Because they're trying so, so hard to bring down the walls that everyone else always rewarded them for putting up. They're trying so hard to let you in, to accept that yes, you do love them, you're here for them, for everything.

Stepping back when they need it. Stepping back when being told to, because you've made them feel so comfortable, and they trust you to listen when boundaries need to be placed, too. You're not going to hurt them.

You're there, because you care so, so much. Because you see the person they can be, if only somebody would give them a chance and actually be there for them, instead of only caring when it's convenient. They've been through so much, and you are more than happy to reassure them, over and over, that you're not giving up on them.

Because they never gave up on you, either.
