Who here has watched TBHX episode 12? Because I SURE HAVE!!!
Okay, so this week we finally got to be introduced and get to know Queen. In respond, there were a lot of posts having been excited to see X and people saying X took the spotlight like he took the title in her arc.
I know it was all a fun and jokey post. Don't worry, I'm not taking them seriously. WHICH IS WHY I'M GONNA HAVE FUN BY HYPING MY QUEEN IN MY PREFACE! BECAUSE HELL YEAH, SHE IS SO GOOD!
I don't care what anybody says, I would absolute put my trust into Queen. If she says "jump" while standing on a cliff, I wouldn't even stop to ask "how high?" That is how much I trust her.
While if X ask me to jump, I would shoot him a dirty look and say, "I swear, if you send me to the moon, then it's your ass!" Because who knows if he's trlling me or not.
Unlike all the previous heroes before her, Queen is unique from the fact she has aimed to be a hero with eyes wide open. She knew about the flaws and setback of the trust system, but still she went in fully determined in order to change things for the better. She puts high expectation on the world as much as on herself.
A post once pointed how Queen had never once refer herself a female hero nor raise the issue of the patriarchy that would have made it an obstacle. She says she's gonna be a hero, so she will be. That's it. It's the media that pulls her gender into the narrative in order to make her more appealing.
With all of that said though, I think Hero X was absolutely necessary to showcase the dynamic of Queen's character because he is everything that she is not.
Queen, from the very beginning, has stated her wish and goal to the public of becoming X in order to abolish the Trust System. Hero X is an absolute John Doe, nobody knows he's motive or who he is.
Queen use her power by creating a world of order with a tap of her polearm or stick. Hero X displace people into a world of chaos with a snap of his finger. Queen is affiliated with a hero company, X doesn't. Queen is straightlaced and use all her effort to rise to the top, while Hero X acts like such a troll as he swaggered into the Top 10 Tournament.
His contrast with her, for better or worse, allows to highlight Queen's strength and weakness. (And can I just say it's so funny that Hero X was essentially made to be her trauma for this arc 😂). And Queen's greatest strength is definitely her powerful sense of justice that really resonated with people and it definitely resonated with me.
Their dynamic could also be taken as a commentary of Queen having to be perfect all the time and not being allowed to make mistake (possibly why she resonated with Lucky Cyan) in order to be taken seriously.
Her ideals and goal empower her, but in a way, they also shackle her. Keeping her from being a person even if it's a choice she willingly taken.
But now that she finally tasted failure – a very real and normal human experience – how will she keep the trust she had in herself and her ideals that has been the fuel her strength this whole time.
Or better yet, maybe she could finally ask herself the question; who is she without her ideals?
Moping and drinking in the dark room while scrolling social media. Damn, I feel you girl.
Oh, her eyes light up. Even during her depression Queen can't stand injustice. THAT'S MY GIRL!
Oh... Bowa... hun... you really need to chill more
Bowa's background? I didn't expect that?
Oh no... since it's established that Fear could take away your common sense. Bowa is really gonna go cross a line with this
Oh, Bowa. Hun. If being able to help people mattered so much to you. Being Hero X shouldn't be the most important thing for you...
LITTLE JOHNNY IS SO ADORABLE!!! I LOVE THEIR FRIENDSHIP!!!
Cyan so strong she could make even Queen her believer
Cyan being Queen's oshi confirm 🤣
BAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAAHA, i'm sorry... but what the fuck? Just how bad is Hero X's relationship with Rock that they had to put a data analysis about it. And who is this Hero Nine? And why do they think they're friends???
Okay. This just occured to me but it seems like Fear is confirm energy during Cyan arc. But before that, there has been strange occurences with Fear that was never defined as such. Good to know
Also, Liu Zhen. I know you have good intention. I want to believe you... But the fact you have hidden agenda, never put into light the secret of the plane beforehand, and just generally have bad taste of friends. I really can't trust you.
Wreck why are you there?! Of all the possible people having a relationship with Hero X. I didn't think they include you
The second tournament for Queen, already?!
Aaaaawwww... Johnny and Cyan are such a good friends with Queen. I love their dynamic so much 🥹.
Ooooh? Junkyard fight? Bowa vs Queen? We couldn't see her fight with X – so this is our consolation prize?
Both girls using ranged weapon is a really interesting point since polearms and such are often used by women in history because they have easier time handling it.
Bow is such a beast. No wonder she manage to get the title of X.
Queen is such a tank. She's taken so many hits and she hasn't gone down at all!
HO.LY. SHIT. did Queen just carved up a land there?
I'm sorry, I don't think I could write any more reaction. I'm just locked the fuck in in this fight
QUEEN-JOHNNY-CYAN FRIENDSHIP CONFIRM!!!!
Okay. I knew they were friends in the last episode. But still, this isn't just being friends. This best friends/support group/found family. The best kind of friendship! I'm so happy for you Queen.
Also, you manage to stay in the Top 10 and be Number 2 despite not competing... girl! That's crazy!!!
The girls are out and they're gonna party!!!
JOHNNY NO!!!!!
So... it looks like we know who the next arc is gonna be.
And have to wait a month for it....
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA DAMN YOU LH0!!!
Very action-packed this episode. I couldn't react well with the fights because the whole time I was like •o•!!

It was beauty and power. Bloody pettiness and righteous authority
The duality of woman
That in-universe sexist comedian/talk show guy salivating over the idea of Bowa and Queen fighting as if it'll be a sexy mud fight only for it to be the most brutal fight of the show since the literal fight to the death between the E Souls.
And iirc we saw more skin during the E Souls fight lol

I HATEEEE it when people say Falin and Laois are EXACTLY THE SAME. NO THEY ARE NOT, WHAT.
LISTEN TO ME.
Falin is soft spoken. Shes the type to get spoken over. Her presence is faint and she's hyper conscious of other people's emotions and very much empathetic- up to the point that she would retract herself to make room for other people and generally more than self-sacrificial, her first thought is to rush into danger without considering it- unlike her brother who will at least analyze the situation first. This is why people like her so much, it's because she knows how to temper herself. She's wouldn't come off as intrusive, she doesn't dump people information about something unless they show her interest first. She's weird, but she stays out of people's business. That's Falin.
Laois is different. He doesn't mask- or at least, he rarely does, and he's a lot less aware of people's true emotions because he spent his childhood ostrasized and unable to connect with other people. This is why he's too much, he's overcompensating from everything he went through. Now that he's a bit safer from petty bullies and has some friends, he lets himself blurts things out and generally rarely considers how other people would perceive his words before he says or does things, because that's how we went through his entire life. This is why he accidently says offensive things without meaning to. From what I can tell from the Manga, he still wants to befriend people while not being able to understand them as much as monsters, so unlike Falin he's more likely to overstep people's boundaries and speaking over them while attempting to get closer- something which can bother people because they get trapped in a conversation where they don't want to be in, like Toshiro/Shuro.
(I also think this is why he was in such disbelief when Kabru said he was interested in Laois and wants to know him, because usually it's always the other way around.)
People like Falin more not just because she's a girl but because she's empathetic, calm and knows how to handle people despite being odd, so she comes off as charming. People don't like Laois because he's more hyper- especially if he likes you and is taking about his interests, PLUS he's not just odd he very obviously acts and says freaky shit, so it's easier to dislike or be annoyed with him.
Disclaimer, I don't dislike him, he's a wonderful character with relatable issues and to be honest, he kinda reminds me heavily of a friend of mine actually, but as someone who relates more to Falin I HATE the fact that the story spends so much time building up what Falin is like only for people to say that "SHES BASICALLY A CARBON COPY OF LAOIS!!!".
It kinda reeks of accidental misogynistic fandom behavior because tell me why you are unable to seperate a woman from her familial relationship and similarities with a man instead of awknowledging her as her own person even though the fucking story built up Falin's characterization over the chapters as someone who is CLEARLY different although similar to her brother.
GOD. I'M SO TIRED.

It wasn't "out of nowhere" he worked alongside her for months and, key during one of his annoyance montages its Laios literally forcing himself on private time with Falin. so he did attempt to court her and observed and appreciated her unique traits.
It WAS a strong matter but it was now or never (it seems he had a callback and already extended to get closer)
She doesn't owe him a yes, but he wasn't just being entitled or inconsiderate.
Though yes he lacks the right wavelength to be a part of her life its not crazy he would ask as he has to or get ASSIGNED someone or never see her again.
Even post series more likely reunite (she promised to visit) who knows maybe they'll have changed enough things hit off better as Fallin knows who she is and Shuro appreciates others and how Falin and the people around him feel.
Shuro really annoys me...like I know his heart is in the right place and there's cultural differences but he obviously realized at some point that Laios wasn't picking up on his subtle attempts to tell him he was annoyed but never changed his approach and somehow blames Laios for that? And then proposes out of nowhere to a Falin, who he's never told about his feelings before this point, and expects her to abandon her brother, best friend, and job to move to an unfamiliar country with him. And then gets pissed at Laios and Marcielle for reviving the love of his life who he's been searching nonstop for, even after admitting that he would probably do the same thing in their place. Man sucks, fr.

Well one.. it turns out she's an animal experiment.
And Shuro, a virtual prince, is not that much better treated by his nanny or father. Same spirit used to catch/kill her is used to scare or direct him. And said nanny is his father's mistress and both parents treated him like a servant/project to randomly do stuff to for random reasons.
Shuro's lifestyle would naturally make him nonconfrontational and his attempt at Fallin is a sign of personal growth, as well as conflict with his brother, and even his seeking proper closure and acceptance of her rejection.
But again. Shuro is the most privileged of his group and it STILL amounts to less than you think from them and opens him to more abuse at home OR abroad. Shuro views Laios as transgressive employer and Laios claims Shuro as a friend and he's been deeply mistreating him out of misguided affection and enthusiasm and making him feel worse. By constrast Shuro's personal abuse ot Itzumi is... he employs her as inherited/assigned from dad and prevents her from escape when sees her as a dangerous monster/freak of nature. He doesn't demand more of her than of himself (as Laios points out the guy hasn't been eating or sleeping or caring for himself properly)
heck Itzumi's FELLOW slaves chide her attitude and the rest more or less like and respect Toshiro. So whatever his faults he isn't utterly detestable as a person.
As treatment of fantasy world slavery/caste system more appreciated. You can champion Itzumi while there is a more... measured context why and what she's going through (she wouldn't even live like Laios if free, and even being Toshiro isn't great shakes)
I find the contrast rather curious between fans commenting on how trash Laios is for being culturally insensitive towards Shuro, and Shuro's household literally including a magically collared teenage slave forced into combat duty.

I think its less "not meant to be" but its clear the point of his efforts is that he failed and they're relationship isn't presented as anything the audience can truly invest in. Even learning not the case him being a terse guy who is slave driving his party while neglecting a woman who's crazy about him while claiming to be all about Falin while lacking the basic fact not there and failed to re-hook with party and so on.
Means you can't help but feel simultaneously sorry for him and not know what he's doing. While the REST of the characters, even minus those we see on the regular don't have a negative association build up or anticipatable to see interact. See Senshi. No real relationship with Falin but between all the flashbacks and detailing we can believe they could get along. so not a negative emotional build up.
Its a really good trick with the writing that's rather basic in the broad strokes but absolutely depends on fine details and development at the right pace and display. Basically Shuro doesn't get along or have a positive relationship with everyone else. Falin is the opposite. Carefully sketching this makes it so while we might appreciate both characters we don't see them as compatible. Even better? It does so without needless villifying if only because we are allowed to experience negative feelings to him and see his flaws treated as flaws.
Worse thing for audience is the opposite, seeing something of questionable.. or having negative traits and told they are all positive.
See MLB with how interpret Adrien, Marinette, and Chloe. Even as like the characters and believe in their arcs not being allowed or addressing the bad with the good makes things feel bad.
i do find it really funny that even Dungeon Meshi fans who genuinely like Shuro (as in, find him relatable or understand his story as being about something sympathetic like trauma or autistic masking) still don't ship him with Falin

The lack of helmet and beard makes such a different impression. Recall at this point Chilchuk wondered if Senshi's helmet came off. he is fidgetting more but that's more circumstantial. someone did a good breakdown on it.
he's always like this wdym
