About
Based in Angoulême, France
Morgane's work draws on personal experiences of the intimate, the ordinary and the everyday to tell common, shared stories. Whether they start from their own experiences, or choose to look at those of other women, Morgane's stories are always told from a position of retreat. The way they position themselves as observers can be felt in the way they welcome and convey these realities, letting them speak for themselves. The subjects they deal with reflect a feminist commitment that Morgane nurtures through their roller derby practice, a sport where feminist issues are important. It is introduced in their work through a short film based on interviews with Morgane’s teammates. After the violence, we are shown a potential space for the emancipation of the body and thought.

Corps et communautés en mouvement
Tumblr media
For this feminist and inclusive performance entitled «Corps et communautés en mouvement» (Bodies and communities in motion), the artists Manon Thomas & Morgane Larousserie put on their roller skates, helmets and protective gears. They set off along the resin floor of the Art Center Madeleine Lambert. Inspired by the contemporary practice of skating and by its history - carried especially by lesbian and Afro-American minorities since the 1970s and 1980s - this performance, set to the beat of drums and music, will involve notions of care and attention, the reappropriation of bodies and the conquest of public space. »
Text by the Art Center Madeleine Lambert in Vénissieux where the performance was played on the 8th of March 2024 for the Essenti’[Elles] festival.

Don't worry, they are just grieving
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I start this film during my residency in Can Serrat. The project center on the grieving process, moving from anger, symbolised by fire, to sadness, tears and finally care and healing, represented by the image of the hands. For me, this part of the body is very powerful and carries a poetic dimension. There are many expressions and gestures linking the hands and the attention paid to others or to oneself. As well as videos and animations, drawing and engraving have played an important part in my visual research.

Thirty seconds
Tumblr media
This poster was created to announce my diploma, modelled on the posters announcing roller derby games. Thirty seconds is the title of my DNSEP. It refers to the thirty seconds whistled before the start of a game and the time between each jam (period of play in roller derby), when the skaters take their places on the track. A text explains how the event unfolds. I chose green and purple because they were the colours we chose for the Pict’Alien club, the subject of my final year film. They are also the colours of the Sufragettes feminist movement.

Five seconds is a short documentary about a roller derby club in Poitiers - the Pict’Aliens - which has chosen to play the sport in chosen mixity (without cisgender men) and self-management. Roller derby, a feminist and inclusive sport, is a pretext for tackling these issues of chosen mixity and self-management, which are often misunderstood and strongly criticised, but are sometimes essential for people from minority backgrounds.

Untitled
Tumblr media
A roller derby track is marked out on the ground. Five people are spread out on the track, dressed in everyday clothes and standing still. I start skating on the track, dodging the «civilians» and getting as close to them as possible. Sometimes I push them slightly. The performance ends when I’m too tired to continue.
With this performance, I wanted to re-enact the violence that women and LGBT people can experience in the public space, from stares to street harassment. By rollerskating and wearing protective gear, I reverse the power dynamics, I take back the power, I become the danger for these static people. By rollerskating, I hope to reappropriate spaces, in this case a gymnasium.

These editions were produced during a workshop with Hélène Alix Mourier. They unfold to reveal a poster. They are made up of silver photographs taken during demonstrations (the Gilets Jaunes movement and Pride marche in Angoulême).
They have a militant slant and are designed to be distributed or stuck up at similar events.

T'as pas fait la vaisselle ?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
T'as pas fait la vaisselle ? (You didn't the dishes ?) is a dissertation about the violences committed in the home (mostly by men). It deals with unpaid domestic work (looking after the house, taking care of the family), domestic violence and incest.
The book is built like a house, with each part corresponding to a room (kitchen, living room, bedroom), and the layout of the text and footnotes suggest that room. Passages of fiction, depicting the evening of a family that could be defined as ordinary, also link each theoretical part and allow the reflection to progress.

goutte à goutte is an animated documentary narrated by Pascale, a woman who has managed to leave her violent partner. She recounts the evolution of her increasingly dangerous relationship. I chose to show everyday objects, actions and places to illustrate the deterioration of the relationship, which is becoming increasingly toxic. I wanted to create a contrast between the audio testimony, which can be destabilising for the viewer, and more symbolic images.
