Leo Kasper as a symbol of evil

So I was looking into Pure Evil Wiki for shits and giggles, and apparently, Leo is within the "Symbolic" category too. And I'd say it really suits him.

I'd even go as far as to say that Leo is both The Project's biggest success and greatest failure at the same time. When he said "you fuckers created me" to Dr Whyte, he meant that.

Not only did Project scientists conduct all those horrificially painful surgeries on him according to the Pravitas file, but the staff made other patients single him out and ostracize him.

All of that just to see if it'd make him violent, which it did. While it did come back to bite them years later, that still doesn't change the fact that they were proven right in the end.

Despite Leo claiming to stand against The Project, his true goal is to break Daniel down and then mold him for his personal gain. Just like The Project did to him.

Leo killed Daniel's wife to erase as much about Daniel's past as possible, and to make sure Daniel would have nothing to come back to. And by doing that, he traumatized Daniel's kids and destroyed the Lamb family forever. Not to mention, he straight up massacred people at that one TV studio for no fucking reason! He is effectively inflicting the same exact cruelty and continuing the cycle of evil.

Ultimately, Leo was indeed the biggest monster The Project created, no matter how hard he tried to prove them wrong.

Leo Kasper really is the true manisfestation of The Pickman Project's cruelty, whether he wanted to be or not.

Does Daniel Lamb count as a "tragic character"?

I honestly have mixed feelings on Daniel having been a top scientist for the Project…

On one hand, it definitely made him much less sympathetic than if he were to be a regular civilian. And I can see why some people would sympathize with Leo more than him.

On the other hand, I still choose to side with him, because it was never stated exactly when Daniel was promoted to working directly under Pickman himself. Not to mention, what he has been going through definitely count as dierct consequences for his actions.

Losing his family, being discarded like disposable lab equipment, being tortured in Dixmor for 6 whole years and being broken down by Leo and Pickman alike? Yeah, he's not getting away with anything at all.

Also, you could argue that Dr Whyte probably only helped Daniel to save her own skin. Keep in mind that the Pickman Bridge was shut down during Release Therapy (Leo's ending), but not Personality Clash (Daniel's ending/canon ending).

So even when Daniel technically won, he still lost in the end. He lost everything just because he trusted the wrong people, like so many others. The main difference between him and the other Dixmor patients was that he was the main character, chich gave him the luck he needed.

While Rockstar's writers could have done a lot better when writing Daniel's contrast with Leo, I'd still argue that Daniel Lamb is indeed a tragic character. He could have been the most tragic Rockstar characters if the game's writing was better.
