After the Sanctuary mission, everyone on the Normandy has something to say about the Illusive Man and how they're all ready to get him.
But out of all of them, Kaidan's reaction is, to me, the most intense:
Can you feel it, Shepard? Feel the quickening? Illusive Man better say his prayers tonight. Because we're coming for him. Murderous asshole. Oh, yeah. Tide is turning. I feel it.
Those lines like this don't do justice to the scene. The voice acting is just A+ and makes him sound quite scary. He's standing with his arms crossed, talking quietly.
He has that sort of very cold and focused anger that makes you think he will show no mercy when the time comes, especially not to someone like TIM.
Canon has shown repeatedly what Kaidan is capable of doing and why (if you steal someone's innocence around him, you're fu****) so there is nothing surprising there, at all. But since he's otherwise so gentle and sweet, I think it's possible to forget that aspect of him - this sort of steel in him.
The saying about the ones you don't expect might have some value here, because if I was a bad guy and Kaidan was after me, I would be very very scared. I would categorize him as "dangerous, period" and run.

I love Kaidan Alenko a lot, lol. Every single thing about him, I love so much.
He knows exactly who he is and is comfortable with himself; he doesn't "need fixing" and tells Shepard that outright.
He's got a steadfast sense of morality and won't compromise his beliefs for anyone, not even his partner. He apologizes after Horizon but he won't say he was wrong. (And he knows he wasn't.)
He was a skilled and decorated officer even before joining the Normandy. He's hard-working, driven, and intelligent. His promotions feel earned. He outranks Shepard by ME3 because he's a damn good soldier.
His biotics set him apart, and throughout the trilogy, he becomes more assured of himself and confident in his abilities.
He goes from saying stuff like "I may as well get a paycheck for (being biotic)" to mentoring other biotics in the military and running his own special forces squads.
From holding back because he's afraid of hurting someone to learning to reave and bragging about it, embracing his biotics as something good. Something to be proud ofโ because they are.
Even after everything heโs been through, heโs not bitter. Heโs not jaded. Underneath it all, heโs still the kid who read books about the hero going to space to prove himself worthy of the person he loves (or, you know, for justice.) Heโs still a romantic.
He left BAaT feeling like he screwed everything up and after taking some time, rejoined the Alliance to serve because he wanted to make a difference. And he does. He has such a positive impact on everyone around him.
I love him. Heโs an incredibly strong, kind, honest, and brave character. ๐

I know it's a heretical opinion in the Mass Effect fandom, but I actually really like the elevator mechanic in the first game. I wish they'd kept it in the sequels.
It really helped the verisimilitude of being there in the game. Some areas on the Citadel had multiple elevator connections to different levels, and it felt like you were really traversing a city since you could find shortcuts and different stuff along the way. Plus, I adore the squadmate conversations that would occur. They gave great character insights, and were often entertaining all on their own. The news reports were less engrossing, but still a nice touch.
I agree they could have structured them better so they weren't so noticeably long, but I think it was a great way to fill the loading time. And Rapid Transit was available for people who didn't want to run through multiple elevators.

Mass Effect LIs rated by how well I think they would be able to move on/eventually find another partner if Shepard died
Jacob: โ
โ
โ
โ
โ
He's so good at moving on he even moved on before Shepard was gone. If this was a competition, we'd have a winner.
Thane: N/A, he's the one who dies and leaves Shepard to move on.
Kaidan: โ
โ
โ
โ
โ
Would grieve for a while but quickly find a new partner.
Ashley: โ
โ
โ
โ
โ Would also be messed up by grief for a while, but would wait until allowing herself to find a new partner, both out of respect for Shepard and for her own feelings.
Jack: โ
โ
โ
โโ Messed up for a while. Blames Shepard for dying and herself for not stopping it. The grieving process is very messy, but she moves on. Would probably get a tattoo in Shepard's honor.
Tali: โ
โ
โโโ Wouldn't grieve in the healthiest ways, but once she processed her feelings and let herself come to terms with them, she would probably find a way to move on and eventually find a new partner.
Garrus: โโโโโ Almost incapable of moving on. won't commit suicide but will contemplate it. won't let himself fall in love ever again, both out of respect for Shepard and out of fear of getting hurt again.
Liara: โโโโโ Not capable of moving on whatsoever. would attempt to bring Shepard back from the dead even if it meant getting Shepard involved with a terrorist organisation. Likely to find a new partner eventually, but will be hung up on Shepard for centuries to come.

Mass Effect galaxy map - repainted and plotted with all known Mass Relay connections from the main series games.
I have made one addition with the Luminous Expanse, to represent the location of the Hanar homeworld. I also made some educated guesses as to the placement of locations such as Tartarus and the Nemean Abyss.
