Affinity for Pain is an urban paranormal romance with sex, assassinations, and explosions. It's the first of the Newborn City Series but does offer its own HFN ending.⁠

Newborn City, once a dead-end, old lady-infested town, is now home to hundreds of supernatural creatures. The Chakal demon, Hope Turner is one such being. Character Drawings- Hope Turner (NBC Series)

I’ve had this fox stuck in my head for ages. Here she is. The amazing, deadly, complicated, and of course, demonic, Hope Cerridwen Turner. She makes her debut in the Newborn City Series first book, Affinity for Pain. That story, in fact the entire series, was born because Hope took over my brain and screamed until her story was told. I love her so much.

I didn’t test my hand on at drawing her tattoo but that will likely come eventually. It’s just very complex and I’m still learning. And again, I used a reference image and Photoshop with a little manipulation of an actual cityscape image in the background.

Everyone loves polite villains to contrast with brash and sarcastic heroes, but consider the dynamic of polite villains clashing with equally well-mannered heroes. It’s very good. Very civil. Very alienating to everyone around them.
